Thought I'd make a thread to collect & share some little tweaks I've been making for myself while sifting thru the decompiled single-player sources. Here they are!
Installation, as always, involves copying the provided .class files into the root of the minecraft.jar and then deleting the MOJANG_C files from the META-INF directory. See my AUTOCART page for a more detailed example.
Drastically lowers gravity for all living things (players & mobs) and removes fall damage. Watch cows and pigs bouncing 20m high. Or better yet, try getting in a fight with a skeleton in mid-air: turns out, arrows knock the afflicted up in the air a little. So, with LowGrav & good aim, the usual ducking & dodging is transformed to a levatated ballet of missiles. Overall, dumb fun. Back up the original ge.class first (or your whole minecraft.jar), though, for when you want to come back down to earth.
Just what it sounds like. Lets you place torches underwater. (Technically, lets torch-blocks displace water, like ladders). If you're worried this makes underwater work too easy, don't be: sunlight doesn't reach the ocean floor, so you'd need torches every few blocks to make it like day down there. The depths are still dang scary.
Nice work, that torches underwater mod will make my underwater exploration so much easier! And the low gravity would add a lot of fun into using some kind of a 'space' texture pack.
With that idea in mind, people could make some interesting PvP SMP arenas that uses the low-gravity mod to make some heavy platforming combat.
Birdcloud, In your free moments of genius, do you think you might be able to look at enabling torches being able to be fixed to glass! http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=55442. Just a minor annoyance in some of my builds, but I'm all for anything that extends Minecraft's flexibility.
You've done a great job with these mods and you come highly reccomended!
Also, just to say, I love the title of this thread. It sounds like just the sort of shop I'd like to pop into from time to time! :biggrin.gif:
Mac tutorial???
here you go!
This is the same idea as the autocart for mac tutorial
I recommend that you duplicate your current minecraft, so that you can keep any mods you might already have, or just have a back up.
I have snow leopard 10.6.4 (for clarification)
Step 1: Put the minecraft you want to modify into your applications folder.
Step 2: Go download the above file (LowGrav.zip)
Step 3: un-zip it, and move the folder to your downloads folder. keep it there, this is important.
Step 4: make sure minecraft is un-zipped, and in the Applications folder. (Important)
Step 5: Open terminal. just copy and then paste the following code into the terminal box:
cd ~
mkdir mctmp
cd mctmp
jar xf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
cp ~/Downloads/LowGrav/*.class ./
rm META-INF/MOJANG_C.*
jar cMf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar ./
cd ..
rm -rf mctmp
note: if you want the torches on glass or waterproof torches, just follow the steps the same way, but download the appropriate file and once you un-zip it and put it in your downloads folder, replace the red text above (in the code) with the name of the un-zipped folder.
Step 6: Let terminal do its thing. it should be done in about 3 seconds. once that is done,
Step 7: Open Minecraft and test by jumping.
Possible reasons for failure:
1. you may have minecraft elsewhere than the Applications folder
2. Lowgrav might not be in the downloads folder
3. Either Minecraft or Lowgrav might still be zipped.
4. you didn't copy the code as it appears here (it is different by 3 characters than the one in the Autocart folder.
If your problem is something else, contact me or just reply to this post and someone will help you.
Thanks BirdCloud for this mod also, i can jump higher.
What's the default code for .ge class? I am working on my modding ability, and want to see how you did it. (My save got a bit messed up, so I can't check myself)
Hmm that would take up 4 blocks laid flat or 8 blocks angled up/down, but could overlap with other tracks.
"EDIT" Also add the ability to place tracks on top of fences, if you can that is. Whats weird though is sometimes you can place minecart tracks on minecart tracks, but only in certain situations.
Birdcloud, you are a genius of awesomenessness and you have my grateful thanks for a job well done! My torches are set free, at last!!
What new surprises await us in your Shop of Novelty? October has turned into an early Christmas for me on Minecraft! Now let me just have another rumage around in the Conveniences section, before I go home brim full of novelties!
Unpowered : Let water/lava pass through it
Powered : Block water/lava
Uses :
- Flood a room
- Create pass-through waterfall
( Right now, you can create a pass-through waterfall but you must have a hole so you always are pushed
in then you swim up and go the other side. With this, you could walk on the block while water still pass
through it and do not flood all your room ).

Auto-Healing
It would be nice to heal 2 hearts a day doing nothing (Time heal injuries, doesn't it ?)
By the way, it woud be awesome to "fraps" yourself when doing mods.
Seeing you working, correcting errors, etc... would be a great learning tool for
beginners ( I include myself in that category ).
I could do the editing and uploading to dropbox or hosting site so you wouldn't have to bother
with anything except starting fraps and sending the video unedited to me.
( just saying... )

Dead simple, let's you put torches on glass.

(That's what get me to start my modding thread but I lack knowledge to do it so if ever you like these, feel free to make them :smile.gif: )
spring (item to put on a wall) :
What it does :
Redstone wired, when power sent to it, it pushes anything back off one or two blocks.
Why ?
It could be used to call your cart back from the other side of your mine.
ex :
[>>-i>]
= Player
[>>-i>] = Lever
= minetrack
= cart
= spring
So, with lever, push block slightly push the cart from the spring, and gravity + boosters (or autocart) does
the rest to bring it back to you.
