This is a simple little mod that (IMHO) improves what grass looks like. I got tired of the way that on hills most of the grass from the side looked brown because of the edge, but at the same time replacing the texture to NEVER have that edge tile looked goofy. So I came up with something in between. Kinda hard to explain, so look.
What this does is if the grass is on a shallow slope, you see the grassy side, but if there's a drop of more than one block, you get the dirt-edge. Because of how this works, it works with ANY TEXTURE PACK YOU USE.
As of version 0.4 this mod will now no longer be a standalone mod, but become part of xau's brilliant HD texture patch - (see viewtopic.php?f=25&t=46173 ) I don't think there's anything else to really do on this but if you have suggestions or bugs (about the BetterGrass part of things) report them here rather than bugging xau about them. Thanks!
LATEST VERSION v0.4 - Moved to patch format

v0.2 - Now with support for snow!

Let me know if this kind of thing aint legit and I will remove it. Otherwise, enjoy!
all this mod does is maks it so that is a grass block is one below the current b lock it will put a grass texture on that side of the block... it looks GREAT.
Its not working. I moved both Mojang files to my desktop and deleted the ones in the jar, then copyed the my.class to that same folder and it will not work.

the my.class goes in the MAIN jar. not in the meta-inf folder.
Man, I really want to install this mod but I can't open my minecraft.jar on my Mac. I try to open it and it says 'the Java JAR file could not be launched. Check the console for possible error messages.'
Any advice?

I'm afraid I'm clueless when it comes to Macs, sorry! Though, it sounds as if it's trying to RUN the jar file rather than open it - which you'd expect, the default behaviour for jars is to run them. You might need a seperate program to open it.
But to be honest? If it's not something you already know how to do and are comfortable doing, I would advise not to do it. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to be unhelpful but I don't want to give you advice that might lead to you damaging your game, I hope you understand. Especially for a silly cosmetic mod. At some point way off in the future there might be official mod support and this kind of trick won't be needed.

Alright, I did manage to open the file, and I even saw the Mojang files you were talking about, but I still need to find a program where I can edit it. But I do see your concern, I already damaged one save trying to figure out cartogropher.
Anyways, thanks.

At first this looked like some kind of bad grass fix that removed the dirt texture, but after i read it over, i thought... OMG this is awesome! this fixes everyhting currently wrong with grass. it makes minecraft look great and better then it already does, especially if your using a 32x32 mod like me. Notch should take this code and use it in the actually game. i give cudo's to you man.

I like it - the default grass thing is kind of weird. Also, you apparently increased the resolution from the default? Looks good. Thanks for sharing.
Edit: Wow, seriously. This made the game look so much better. My grass roof looks amazing:) Wery nice work. Have a
