Fall asleep playing Minecraft? Well why not keep playing?
Okay I guess thats sort of cheesy. This was an idea in the back of my head for a while, it'll be a small project.
Terrain:
Minor placeholders now but more or less done. Comments appreciated.
Mobs:
The only mob missing is for the spider.
Note as of 09/14: Im going to try getting sounds done this week as well as sun/moon stuff. I've been focusing on personal life recently buuut I don't want to just leave this project the way it is. Really needs new walking sounds and a new sun/moon to make things more interesting.
I want to see more fantastic (i mean, in regards to how unusual it is) texture packs like this. I though mooncraft was a really great idea, and I'd love to see more terrain mods that cater to the highly bizarre
Mooncraft (if you mean like, moonside) or other dark terrains would be awesome, save one really stupid problem: the darker an image is, the less light it gives off. The lightbulbs in my Earthbound terrain "give off" more light (No, not in the sense that it has a bigger range of light, but that the model is brighter) because its mainly white and it enhances that color. Originally I wanted to make smoothstone pitch black, because most of the areas in Yume Nikki just have very black flooring with weird pictures showing up etc; however, when I went to test, I couldn't see anything even when the room was made of torches. It was if I was in complete nothingness, and when you consider random pitfalls and monsters everywhere, thats hardly fair. I tried finding a brightness that was hard to see, but not so hard that you get lost every single time (I have gotten lost with this terrain before, so be aware that it IS easier for you to get lost, but not ridiculous). Smoothstone is the walls from the Concrete maze, by the way.
To clarify, torches still work the way they're supposed to, but the wall color makes it look darker than it really is.
I'm, for some reason, tempted to make a creeper skin and make it the gray man from LSD by the way. Even though it doesn't fit into Yume Nikki. Would that be pretty bad?
EDIT: But to your original point...that would be cool. If someone made a LSD terrain that would be awesome.
Perhaps you could make the borders of the grass a bit brighter? That is, on the side of the block...
And yes, I have observed this darkness effect even with obsidian. In pitch dark it's about as bright as it is well lit... Perhaps you could speckle the terrain a bit? While I'm fairly certain that would look quite bad It's the only solution I can think of.
Good work and good luck on this Texture pack though.
I'll probably have the terrain finished by tonight and i'll see about making one or two mobs. Thing is that my college semester can be hectic and I tend to save my time at home for personal time, but i'll have moments where I just get stuff done.
Anyways:
Perhaps you could make the borders of the grass a bit brighter? That is, on the side of the block...
To make the difference more noticeable? Sure, i'll look into that.

Well for one I don't want to put noise into the terrain since it ruins the original quality of the tiles; would be like adding noise to a 8-bit terrain. Secondly I feel like its dark enough. Confusing but manageable. Sort of the darkness I was shooting for.
Also, could you make the Skeleton be Masada? <:3c
OH OH OH AND THE ZOMBIES -HAVE- TO BE THE TORINGEN
Sounds reasonable, although I haven't got to mobs yet.
Also Uboa Creeper make it happen.
Based on the width of even the creeper's body i'm not sure how well this would work. I'll keep looking though. Toriningen might work better since Toriningen teleport you instantly, and creepers have a sort of close-to-instant-death sort of thing, I dunno. I try to keep my mobs reasonable based on their abilities. Like why I though Voltorb as a slime was silly, since they were known to float and explode. A lot. Mouth Monster for Slimes sounds reasonable to me. Monoko for Zombies sounds alright too. For the passive animals i'll have to be a bit more creative. I'll probably go for a few ghosts etc, and remove a majority of the body. Probably make Sheep have a face you knock off (I did this sort of thing with my Mothercraft overhaul; I made Gruff Goats lose their beards when hit). But thats just a lot of brainstorming, and i'd prefer to finish up the terrain first.
I will say, though, that I already figured out what the furnace and bamboo should be. I thought the furnace was clever (Its the TV, when its cooking stuff it shows the eye that normally pops up when you're in the dream world).
And there's every slot filled for now save cage since i'm tired and didn't notice I needed to change it...oh well. I'll have to admit I stole the tracks from LSD, but I wasn't so sure if the roads would be okay or not, i'll have to check later. The redstone torches look like that now since I thought the open/close movements they make were good enough, and they were long. Looks weird to boot.
Oh god. If you do mobs, that'd be interesting.
What I was aiming for mainly was the terrain and step sounds, but mobs aren't too much to ask for, honestly. I did a bit of brainstorming earlier on that.
This is awesome. Reminds me more of LSD than Yume Nikki, but that's in no way a bad thing. I wouldn't object to a gray man reskin for the zombie or creeper.

Actually, the cacti is him already technically (I didn't want to just plant his face on the top, it would be silly, so I just kept his form similar), so doing that would be one character placement too many.

I mean if you want to.

But I was worried it would look like ****.
I'm glad someone else is doing this instead of me.

I think it ought to be either the creeper or the spider.
