My server is not a simple "crack'. It is a 2719 line complete from-scratch honest-work rewrite of a program which I do not have the source code to, which itself is also available to free users. It does not allow free users to have custom skins on their name, nor does it contain support for new game modes.
Quite frankly, complete new game modes would be impossible without client-side support: i.e. everything my server could do as a "gamemode" would go under the section of "sports" on the minecraft wiki, and would ALSO be available to free users, the only thing my server does differently is enforce the "rules" of the game.
Honest, I'd gladly work with Notch on the licensing to ensure it upholds all his rights and intentions (though I doubt he's interested), and he's more than likely going to code the client to not be able to accept custom gamemode-related input from the server for free members in the first place. You're all freaking out of "future possibilities" which hardly even exist.
I'm sad to see that for a lack of an argument against my sound logic, you've decided to just remove my title and hope I take the hint. :sad.gif:
I would like to say that inevitably, someone will come around if minecraft is popular enough, and code something like this. Except with no regard to Notch.

I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong.

No action has actually been taken on JTE. But it's Notch's request that he maintains a hold on his project and his wishes are that this server software not be distributed. Also, one more thing is the leeching which JTE has strongly suggested at doing by copying the idea of minecraft but taking it in a slightly different manner.
I would only ban JTE for attempting to distribute the software (he makes out like he is the only person who could update it to suit new protocols, which isn't true, there are plenty of people whom could do such a thing) as it's specifically against Notch's wishes.
...... No, there is a difference between wanting to enforce the rules of Spleef and auto-kick hackers (what I am TRYING to do) and wanting to create a near-exact replica just for the sake of making it "free" to the public (what you insist on ACCUSING me of doing). Don't insult me. I give up.
What's the difference between what JTE's doing and the future LUA scripting?
Not as much as you think...
So whats the real problem of him doing it? He's just having fun and what he's doing isn't infringing copyright at all.
So he's one-stepping Notch?
He still will gladly admit it's Notch's game.
How many people are using Notch's server type compared to JTE?
JTE's the only one using his server and he admitted that he would if possible, in these games, release in his server to paying users only.
As far as I see it, JTE's making no money, Notch is making it all still.
People are going crazy over these rumours that might not even happen!
LUA Is allowed by Notch. That's the point, Notch doesn't want any custom mods being released before he allows LUA to be used. Is it that hard to understand? That is the bottom line; Notch does not want anything distributed that could allow free users to get what paid can... for free. Is it that hard to understand?
We're not going crazy over anything, we're trying to make the point that IF JTE releases his custom server and it allows for free users to get what paid users get then we will have to take action and prevent the distribution as much as we possibly can. What is wrong with that? It seems entirely reasonable to me. Nobody has a problem with that JTE is doing at the moment, it's impressive BUT we do have a problem with it being released to the "public" because with what has been mentioned as being added will adversely affect the minecraft community and the profit Notch makes.
My point was that paid users aren't getting anything to begin with, not even the fact that they paid is easily distinguishable to both the server and here, you know this. However, it will never be distributed to the public either way. Not by me, I worked too hard on it for it to all be wasted. (... And it's all been wasted, thus far.) So as neither of the two 'possibilities' you've got your panties in a bunch for are going to happen, can we please stop arguing and threatening me now? It's dead.

If the context of what you're doing isn't going to go further than OP commands and other crap like that. Then there isn't a problem. All you had to say from the start was "It's not going to be distributed and I'm not making additional game modes available".
Yeah, one of my friends noticed that. Only one of them. The rest were awed by our insane overreactions to eachother. :smile.gif:
Too bad I was too busy being scared into defending myself by the whole "We will ban you for giving away something that is rightfully yours to give away if it is against our interests." thing to notice that myself.
Besides, the vast majority of everything I've made so far couldn't be trusted with non-ops (and in some cases even with ops) and I totally know that. I'd still like to give others the benefit of all my anti-hacks and op commands, but at the very least I'll first need to re-code it from scratch in C, a point I've been hesitant of simply because of what it implies. Starting over.
... And damn it, despite me stating specifically that it's all over and I'm done working on this piece of trash if it's gonna be completely discarded and never fully appreciated, I can't seem to get myself to close it. I just added an anti-speedhack check to it. Whatever. I'll keep hosting it for now, at least the five people who go there regularly seem to care, even if I'm not going to bother with it much anymore.
I wouldn't just give up on the project. The custom server is good, just you can't and I think that is a good thing. Not for all that "agh! you cant do this" crap but because it makes your server individual.
It was clearly stated by me and I think Zuriki that what you're doing right now is perfectly acceptable, it isn't acceptable to distribute it though. I'm sure I pointed that out at least 10 times :tongue.gif:
Dude, JTE, your OP commands and such are awesome. I've said it before, but I just wanted you to know it again.
I've never been on your server, but I hope the various non-paid-only features will show up for us server admins sooner than later, because they sound to be very helpful.
I've no doubt that we will see it in the future, actually, so cheers to you, sir!
It's unfortunate that you, JTE, have lost your forum title, too, and hope that the forum mods reconsider its removal.

ANYWAY NOW THAT WE'RE ALL HAPPY.
keep working on it, it's cool :sad.gif:
Too bad there isn't any 'reserved' spots though.
Former #minecraft channel operator.
Err-
Notch has no problem with this server.
That should be the end of this agruement.
Yeah... they already got that.
