Howdy folks! I Finally delved into learning how to mod, had no issues loading items in, however I have been having such an issue loading in my model textures. All I want to do is have my texture render as saplings and normal flowers would. I am using Forges Blockstate system instead because Minecraft's way was making me pull my hair out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am pretty new so my apologies for not understanding basic concepts.
Here's some of the code which I figure would be necessary:
First, override the isOpaqueCube() in your block class and return true. This will stop your sapling from making you see the world from below.
As for the texture, how does your .png file look?
Check your .png file with the one for the normal Minecraft sapling (not the item texture) and see if there are any differences. You may need to make your block image look like the one for the normal sapling.
Also, you should put up a preview what version you are working with in the title of the post. It is easier to provide code if the community knows whether you are working with 1.8, 1.9 or 1.10.

you have to create a IProperty<> in your block (you can have a look at furnace block code for example.)
i hope this helps.
This might be completely wrong, but it is how I did it (int 1.7.10):

Ohh by the way, remember to use a square image file, it must have the same height and width!
