So, I really like this mod called DaVincing (a continuation of minepainter). He updated it all the way to 1.7.10. He says that he will no longer update it to 1.8+. It kinda ruined the point of continuing minepainter. Is it possible (with permission, of course) to update it using eclipse? I'm pretty young and am not advanced at programming, but am determined. Please don't post "you can't do it without permission", or "it's too complicated for you", I know that. So, the main point, how do I update the mod to 1.8, or 1.9? I use eclipse/java.
1.7.10 to 1.8 hasn't change all that much (It obviously did but not to a crazy extent).
The thing is, you gotta mod to know how to update a mod.
start with general programming in Java. Most Languages are alike so if you know a language in particular, the transition will be easy. Then try understanding a typical mod layout. After that you should be kinda OK with updating any mods.
Of course you need the source files of a mod to update it. Did he had a Github?

lol.
and if at any point you get stuck you can put it in the request section with a link to the source and someone may update it for you
