The last time I made a block with a custom model was back in 1.6 so I'd imagine it has changed, how do I change a block's bounding box in 1.8?
Someday I'll return to the Blueheart Glacier and sleep for a thousand years.
It didn't change.
How about you tell us what you did try?

You can use Block#setBlockBoundsBasedOnState or Block#setBlockBounds
Not doing mc modding that much anymore because I am making a full blown game that does not have limitations that mc has. (rip Magiology for now)
I may come back if MC fixes it's rendering pipeline.
on the blocks constructor in the block's class I used this.setBlockBounds(minX, minY, minZ, maxX, maxY, maxZ); and this does seem to work
So what are you setting them to that doesn't work?
My understanding of this, is the maximum size of a block is 1 x 1 x 1, so you can't set any of the values larger than 1.
So is that what you are doing?
I think if you look at how doors or beds work, they are actually made of multiple blocks (2 for those).

Yep, setBlockBounds still works. Though keep in mind that the "state" in setBlockBoundsBasedOnState is the state returned by getStateFromMeta.

No it does work I was just curious if it was the same function as it was when I last used it in 1.6

Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
