My computer is offline. It only accepts ethernet, and my house doesn't have ethernet wiring. The router is on the other corner of my house. If I want to download stuff, I download it on my tablet's sd card and transfer it via usb to my computer. I really want to start modding, but when i run gradlew.bat with the setupDecompWorkspace argument, I get an error, because it can't download the nessecary files. Can somebody tell me what to download and where to put it, or easier, run that for me (with the latest 1.8 forge source), and upload the files and gradle cache, etc, so I can download them on my tablet and transfer it to my computer. Please, somebody help me, I've wanted to start modding forever, and I have so many ideas, but this little issue is stopping me. It would be greatly appreciated if you could do this. Thank you for reading this, and though I don't want to take up much of your time, please do this for me.

I'm not sure it's possible to use ForgeGradle in your situation, unfortunately. Even if you had another computer with internet access, it looks like Gradle tries to re-download the ForgeGradle snapshot every time it's run (even in offline mode).

The ForgeGradle files include the Minecraft server and client, which I'm not legally allowed to give to you. You have to download these from Mojang yourself, which is what ForgeGradle does.

*Sigh*... Can u maybe do it, delete those files, then I will download them from the mojang server on my tablet? Sorry, but i'm so desperate to start modding.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.
I don't really want to pick through Gradle's files to remove any non-distributable stuff like Minecraft and MCP. I'm not entirely sure ForgeGradle would accept the Minecraft client and server files without downloading them itself.
Unless someone else is willing to help you, you'll need to find a computer with internet access and a JDK installation, use it to set up ForgeGradle and then copy the files back to your computer.

I successfully installed forge and eclipse on a mac. But when I copy my forge directory to my offline windows machine, and open eclipse, the "Minecraft" folder isn't expandable, and when i double click it, it says the .project file is missing. This does not happen on the mac, in fact on the mac, it works amazing. I feel like i'm so close, please help me.

I got the same problem and I know how to fix it. Open Windows File Explorer and click on Computer and find the main hard drive it is the C drive for me then find "ProgramFiles" then in there find "Java" then open the JDK folder then find bin then copy the directory of the bin folder. Now RIGHT click "Computer" and then click properties then in there click Advanced System Settings then click Environment Variables then click the New button under the first box then for variable name enter "Path" (without the quotes) and for variable value Paste the bin's directory that you copied before. Now we check if it worked. Find the command prompt (windows calls it cmd so search or run that) In the cmd prompt type "javac" (without the quotes). It might take a second but it should start outputting a ton of information but if it just says "'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" then it didn't work if it didn't work then watch the begin of the beginning the following video (he makes a mistake in the beginning so that might help you learn.) Here's the video:
If you got the javac thing to work then run the gradlew again. Also just to be sure you used the right gradlew commands I have them below:
gradlew setupDecompWorkspace
Once the LONG process finishes enter this:
gradlew eclipse
That won't take long to load once its done open eclipse and go to the file tab then in that tab find the Switch Workspace button then enter the directory of the folder you did the gradlew stuff in.
Hope that worked if it did enjoy modding. Also if you need Wi-Fi that bad just go to a coffee shop or someplace that has free wifi. If you go to a food place like Dunkin' Donuts or a coffee shop and buy something you can legally use their Wi-Fi unless stated otherwise by an employee or a sign. Tip: don't ask them what they don't know can't hurt them >:D
I can't run gradlew on my pc, it can't download the files. And I cant go to a coffee shop, cause I can't bring a pc with me xD Thanks for trying to help though
I tried ditching the whole forge source/mod development kit thing and just compiling a mod jar myself following mr cray fish's tutorials, but now it can't recognize methods I call from vanilla minecraft. It even crashes saying it doesn't recongnise net.minecraft.item.Item.setUnlocalizedName, when other mods are using it?!?! I'm so fed up with this modding thing, I'm literally gonna throw a brick in my pc (JK about the brick)

I thought it was a laptop that just sucked :/ Anyway think I found the answer. Amazon.com! It literally has everything... see where im going with this...? http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Universal-Ethernet-Adapter-GWU627/dp/B004UAKCS6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1440397135&sr=1-1&keywords=wireless+adapter+ethernet+port. This is the cheapest one I found but just check again If you have money then you should invest in this it will be very useful so you can kill the middle man (your tablet) Please don't really destroy your tablet O_o
