Hello, my name is Myles. I am about to learn java and minecraft modding as a challenge. My goal is to learn Java to create a somewhat complicated mod. I have 1 solid week before school starts (I can work after just with limited time) and i would like to know what resources are available for help and what is required to begin minecraft modding. I know this is kinda long so please post resources and requirements for minecraft modding. I would like to make a 1.7.10 Forge mod. So yeah.
I have tried MCreator and find it limited to the best of my ability, even with no knowledge. However would it be a good start to inspect code for Forge?
What do I need for Forge modding of the 1.7.10 client?
What are good resources for help on the java language, or just modding which is more specific?

I don't think that's a good idea, take it slow, get a decent understanding of Java, then begin modding. It'll be easier in the long run . Thanks. Will write down. Also I never said i have a deadline.
You said "My goal is to learn Java in as little time as possible and create a somewhat complicated mod". I thought you were intending to race through learning Java to get started with modding as fast as possible.

Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.
UPDATE: Got everything working and studied the "Hello World!" code. I do need to restart my PC before i can compile as i did not set the environment variable.
You don't need to restart your computer* when changing an environment variable, just restart the programs that use the variable.
* This is the case for Windows, I'm not sure about other OSs.

I'm packing Windows 10 and I've tried using them without a restart and they don't work. Luckily, i have a quite powerful PC so my restarts are quick
