There have been a lot of problems with Forge lately due to the new 1.6.1 update. Minecraft mods have completely changed with the 1.6.1 update. Those who are looking to update/start modding for 1.6.1 I highly advise you to stick with 1.5.2 until Forge has released a recommended build for 1.6.1. As the builds they have been releasing are experimental, there are a lot problems with textures, names and many more things. I am posting this because there are so many topics about broken textures or screwed up names, so before updating your mod to 1.6.1, please read this notice.
Yeah, even after forge gets to a recommend build, a lot of the beginning modders (Like myself) will have trouble. I have read over the change logs and so much has changed.
Yeah, I would just wait. Hopefully the recommended forge version will work much better. You can still update other aspects of your mod with the newest forge version though, to get a head start. Just don't do anything with textures. If you are thinking of making a new mod, just wait as you enjoy the soothing sounds of horses and villagers in vanilla MC...
