Hi,
So before i start, since I'm fairly new to modpacks, what is a modpack exactly? From my understanding, is it just a file containing mods that fit together to to form a special game play type, depending on what you want .(hardcore survival, technology, exploring, etc.)
I heard different modpacks need different launchers... How do they work? And how do you use it?
Another question, lets say that a modpack has 50 mods. Why cant i just individually download those 50 mods? If I can do that, whats the point of a modpack anyway?
a modpack that you download from, let's say technic, packages a premade package of mods along with the version of forge, and basically makes a new .minecraft in the .technic/modpacks file. This allows for quick access to many mods through a modpack, and also makes it so that you don't have to grapple with forge and move every single mod into the mods folder, plus it has any configurations and resourcepacks already edited. They might not seem like a lot, but they make a big impact on the community. Re-comment if you have any more questions. In the bare bones, though, you are right, it is basically just a package of mods.
Well, for one, it's hard to grapple with finding api's and the right version of forge. 2: Some creators like to change modpacks, or have maps in them for some special questing things. 3: Questing things are stored within saves (I think) so they have to include a whole .minecraft file. 4: You can change the layout of some buttons, or even add or delete or change the text on some buttons in the main title screen. Modpack makers may want to do this, and therefore have to include a whole .minecraft file. 5: Resourcepacks. Some resourcepacks may be included.

Why cant modpack creators just make the mod pack into a mod file that you can just drop into your mods folder?
Also, how do you make a modpack?
