If you've ever had a load of junk items and needed materials, wanted to have easier access for sand, gravel, bricks, or just wanted a decent alternative to pickaxes, this is the pack for you. Hammers are, definitively, not pickaxes, and I've ensured this with overwriting, changing, and recreating 325 block loot tables.
The Hammers datapack is a Lightweight Datapack. The datapack is optimized to not create any lag on your server, as it does not use any commands or function files. The pack simply adds in the small chance for various chests and gameplay mechanics to grant players the titular new tool, Hammers. These hammers can be found in various loot chests around the world, via piglin bartering, and even as gifts from some villagers after fending off a raiding party. The list of locations can be found in this spoiler:
Toolsmith Villager chests can contain wooden, stone, and iron hammers.
Mason Villager chests can contain wood and stone hammers.
Abandoned Mineshafts can cnotain iron hammers.
Miscellaneous Bastion chests can contain golden hammers.
Bastion Treasure chests can contain golden or netherite hammers.
Desert Pyramid chests can contain golden hammers.
End City chests can contain diamond hammers.
Large Underwater Ruin chests can contain iron and golden hammers.
Nether Fortress chests can contain golden and diamond hammers.
Jungle Temple chests can contain wooden and stone hammers.
Piglin Bartering may grant an iron hammer.
Toolsmiths may gift stone hammers upon completion of a raid.
Weaponsmiths may gift stone, golden, and iron hammers upon completion of a raid.
Notably, the Hammers datapack makes it so that, when two slabs are placed upon eachother, breaking them with anything but a hammer returns the original block. Thusly, if you place two cobblestone slabs upon one another, it will return cobblestone, unless broken with a hammer. This way, you can easily craft slabs back into full blocks by just placing them and breaking them!
There are, again, 325 uses for hammers, though they've been sorted into 3 basic sections: Deconstruct, which will on average give you less than the original component materials (chests, for instance, will ive 1-8 planks), Crush, which will give you an average return of component materials (sandstone broken with a hammer will give 4 sand, but terracotta for instance will give 4 bricks), and Pulverize, which will give you an average change to related materials (stone broken into gravel, dirt and such into coarse dirt, etc).
Hammers are enchantable with the same suite of enchantments as pickaxes, and diamond hammers can be upgraded into netherite hammers in the smithing table. A few more important things to note with hammers:
-They will not generally return ore. Most ore destroyed with a hammer will return gravel, or a similarly appropriate material.
-The exceptions to this are iron and golden ore types. These will return, on average, 1-9 nuggets of their material. This is, however, affected by fortune. Therefore, enchanting your hammer with fortune has the potential to increase ore gains from iron and gold ores.
-Glass destroyed with a hammer will return nothing.
-Obsidian destroyed with a hammer will, 50% of the time, return obsidian. 25% of the time, it will return nothing. 25% of the time, it will return crying obsidian.
Download & Installation:
As the Hammers pack is actually a datapack and resource pack, there are two files the user must download,
Once this has been finished, keep in mind that as a datapack, these hammers show up per-world. If you’re running a single-player world or if the server you wish to host Hammers on is Yours, you won’t have to worry one bit, but if you want to get these hammers on a server that belongs to someone else, you won’t be able to without asking the owners/managers of that server. However, if you have access to the files of your single-player world / multi-player server, follow this simple installation process:
Select the world you wish to install the datapack in.
Drop “resources.zip” into .minecraft/saves/[YOUR WORLD NAME]/
Go to .minecraft/saves/[YOUR WORLD NAME]/datapacks
If the folder “datapacks” does not exist, create one.
Drop “HAMMERS.zip” into .minecraft/saves/[YOUR WORLD NAME]/datapacks/
And that’s the entire process! If you’re running a server, you may need to do a restart, but otherwise everything should be ready to go.
