Licensing Stuff:
Basically, don't steal my code, please.
You can:
- Use my shader in videos, although it's probably not worth it in its current state.
- Modify my shader for personal use; don't share it.
You cannot:
- Redistribute my shaders in any form without my explicit permission.
- Share any modified form of my shaders, with the exception of custom presets (the .txt file that relates to a shaderpack).
- Copy/paste code/files into your own shader without my explicit permission.
1) Download the latest preview version of Optifine.
2) If you are using Forge, place the .jar file in your .minecraft/mods folder. Otherwise, just open the file and follow the steps.
3) Run Minecraft once after installing Optifine.
4) Download the shader from above.
5) Place the .zip file in your .minecraft/shaderpacks folder.
6) The shaderpack should now show up in your shader list (Options -> Video Settings -> Shaders).
How to report issues:
You could ask in this thread, or on the shaderLABS discord channel where I usually reside. Preferably, however, you could create a new issue on the Repository.
When reporting an issue, please attach a log (.minecraft/logs/latest.log), and if possible let me know what GPU you're using.
Things to Note:
This shader is at an early stage. It has some basics including diffuse lighting, shadows, tone mapping, depth of field, and HDR.
Please don't complain about this shader not having features that other shaders do. However, please do suggest new features, I love new ideas.

Its very refreshing to see a shader being made with proper light and shadow stuff where the blocks dont get way too bright. I really like this kind of dark design where the blocks in light are just about as bright as they would be in vanilla, and shadows are subsctracted from that. Most shaderpacks I encounter, they basically just glow the hell out of your face and the terrain covered by shadows is hard to see at all, in terms of, its so dark you can't tell the identity of a block.
I have one big question tho:
what does this look like in caves and in a skylands world below floating islands? I'm part of a Server and we're looking for shaders to recommend to our players but so far, since we're skylands and half the islands are basically covered by darkness, other shaderpacks don't do the job.
I'd love to see this one showing the underside of a sky island, what its like in a cave, and what it looks like at nighttime!
Thanks for the response. I'm not entirely sure whether I understand what you're asking. However, I linked some images of a world I generated below, as well as some images of caves. I'm going to hold off on the nighttime images for now if you don't mind, as I'm currently working on revamping the sky (it looks horrid at night currently).
Let me know if there's any kinda coloring you'd need to be adjusted. If you'd like, I could develop the shader custom for your server. It would help give the shader some direction, I think.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The caves could be darker and have a bit more of that warm light tint OR a cold blueish tint, both would work, but I suppose blue is much better for surface. Night pictures I understand, sure, a good sky is not something anyone is gonna get done in just an hour, I'll just check back here in a few days to see if you have added some pictures yet.
And yes your skylands pictures look good. The lighting isnt so extreme, you can still make out what is on the side of the islands covered by the shadows. I hope you can also still see a bit of what is below them when you fly below, in terms of ores. (on our server players can fly below islands with airships, they often do that to mine the ores or stay hidden from the other pirates when they travel).
If you like to check out our server to see if you're interested in a cooperation, check it out here.
