Thanks for the answers. From playing a bit more i think i now grasp the concept: The mod is supposed to fill Your custom build town with life. Its neat and i really like the art style / textures. I'd just like to know what to do with the things i can get from a farmer (rice, cabbage,...) - there does not seem to be any recipes/use for it? Maybe there is a cook villager that i can give the ingredients and he creates consumable food for me? Also, how to obtain that alchemy pot? Do i need a wizard villager?
Thank you! Yep, we do have a cook profession who does the things you mentioned. =D The idea we are heading to is that materials you get from low level villagers should be widely used by high level villagers. You may upgrade a alchemist for the alchemy pot(the alchemy pot is WIP now, and we temporarily remove it in next version, we are designing a better mechanic for it)
Some feedback also say they got confused about the trading recipes, so we are going to create an in-game guide-book later.
Is there a full list of professions? I don't like adding mods that I can't see everything that it does. Also, how compatible is this with other mods? Do the farmers farm modded crops? Will the cook make modded food? Will a guard protect against modded creatures?
Can you configure what drops coins and how often? Can you configure custom trading?

Thank you for the questions! Nope, you can't see the list now, but we are going to add an in-game guide book to help. We haven't tested the mod with other popular mods seriously, we open for reports and suggestions on that. Yep, The farmer sells new crops (but they don't really farm in the game) and the cook makes modded food. And there is no guard for villagers right now.
Currently the config options are very limited, we plan to make it more detailed later.
Hey there. I've uploaded the first episode just now.
I named the series after the mod. I hope that's okay.
You can see it here...
Good work!! I love it so much (especially 11:50) and I'm fine with the name. I'm so excited because Village Box just has its first youtube series Thank you!!
By the way.....Could I use it on the thread and the Curce page?
Looks very good! Gonna try it out first then I'll give my feedback
EDIT: I've tried it and it's good. Very good. But I think the villagers need to harvest the resources themselves so that the player can focus on something else
Something odd happened and I can't seem to fix it.
Two of my villagers had died (a banker and a peasant). No big deal since I know they revive. I run off to go fight mobs at night to get some xp so I'm not in the same chunk as they are. Well, I got a message notifying me that they have revived, but upon my return, I don't see them anywhere. I'm even using a minimap mod that shows entities as yellow dots, but they're not in their houses at all. I even brought a new villager in to see if they could take their house, but it says it's still owned by the missing villager.

Endermen are kidnapping my villagers! Help! D:
Hi ThiefCatEike, which version are you playing? I'm so sorry because there is a bug that sometimes causes the problem you described in earlier versions, I have fixed that bug since 0.3.0 beta. So if you are playing 0.0.1, 0.1.0 or 0.2.0,unfortunately you may lose them forever , it is highly recommended to upgrade to the last version! I'm not sure if I can, but I will try to add some lines of code on 0.4.0 beta to help you find them back (or at least allow you to remove their homes).
Looks very good! Gonna try it out first then I'll give my feedback
EDIT: I've tried it and it's good. Very good. But I think the villagers need to harvest the resources themselves so that the player can focus on something else
Instead of doing real things (like harvesting crops or mining blocks) villagers are currently just walking and trading. But we are considering to add more interactive things . Thank you for the suggestion!
I'm not too bummed out, as it was only two villagers, but my other two villagers can't take their homes as a result so it would suck to have all these empty houses in case more endermen kidnap my villagers while I'm away!
They're scared and their toilets are full of doo-doo butter (Mr. Crayfish furniture mod ftw) and they need your help to prevent further kidnappings!

aah..looks like I need to do another test for the bug. I understand it's suck to have two "ghost houses"... Let me check my code again and I'm going to solve the problem in next version so no one will kidnap anyone :D. I'm sorry again for the bug. Thank you so much for the feedback!

Maybe it's an idea to have the "Upgrading Paths" as achievements (it would look quite fancy) aside a recipe book?
Maybe the book could be a reward for a very early achievement like the making or placing a postbox? (Perhaps receive it as the first mail even?)
I have no idea how difficult this all is to implement, so I do understand if it's too hard or impossible.
Any luck figuring out how to keep villagers from reviving and disappearing when you're not in the chunk? I haven't made any new townsfolk, though I could just build them an underground base to keep them safe.
My friend gave me an idea to add a bell, like from Fallout 4, to call all your villagers to you. I'm no programmer, so I don't know how that would work.

Now look, buddy. I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like 'what is beauty', because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems. Like, how am I going to stop some big, mean mother-hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer: Use a gun. And if that don't work: Use more gun. Like this heavy-caliber, tripod-mounted little ol' number designed by me. Built by me. And you'd best hope, not pointed at you.

Alchemist upgrading path:
(villager -> scholar -> mage -> alchemist)
Is there a way to add custom skins? If not, is there a plan for such a thing?

It sounds a great idea! But currently we have no plan for it. Thank you!

Hey guys! Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Here comes 0.3.0 beta!!!
Please tell us your thoughts! Hope you enjoy it.
* You may not be able to downgrade villagers spawned in old versions.

So can the villager actually breed animals, farm or anything or does it only trade these items?

No, currently they just trade with the players
