Cookiehook here bringing you a new mod to open up some of those previously uncraftable items. This allows you to craft blocks and items that are currently available in survival, but uncraftable and damn hard to get hold of. Examples include:
Horse Armor of all types:
Vanilla Ores of all types:
Silverfish monster eggs & mob heads: Create traps for your friends!
Red sand, easy as staining glass:
Sponges, take on an ocean monument and they're yours!
The full list of all craftable items is contained within the spoiler below. All crafting recipes are present in .png form with the downloaded .zip file, and are visible through Not Enough Items. Ores are balanced in such a way that prevents exploits with a fortune pick, so they may be slightly more expensive to build than to mine.
This mod requires the appropriate forge versions for Minecraft 1.8 or 1.7.10 to run. Both links download as a .zip folder with a readme, crafting recipes and the mod .jar file. Copy the .jar file into your mods directory to start playing.
I got to say, out of all the mods which add those kinds of crafting recipes, yours is the most creative one. I really like the balance of it, while still opening up more possibilities and being fun to play!

-Pixel Format Not Accelerated Problems in Windows 10 Reasons-
1.Old Intel CPU (2nd Gen and older) and these aren't ready for Windows 10.Please downgrade to an older version
2-Slow/Intel GPU (But sometimes Intel GPU just work fine from 3rd Gen CPU or newer on Win10)
3-Update Drivers (recommended for Dedicated GPU but not always for Intel's)
[This signature isn't to critisice Intel/Microsft or any thing of this sort, I am criticising You and You idiotness for not checking the requirements for Windows 10] (If you are annoyed of the ammount of the thread with a "Pixel Format Not accelerated" problem, plz Share this signature
Saddles and nametags are craftable, along with vines, flint, types of dirt block and all other manner of blocks. Check the spoiler at the bottom of the page marked "List of Recipes Available". I didn't put them all up on the main page to avoid cluttering, so I just chose my favourites
"you do understand that craftable ores + fortune pickaxe = never ending diamonds and emeralds?"
Thanks cadsad, I had not taken that into consideration! I'll look into the max yield from a fortune pickaxe and set the crafting recipe accordingly!
I've not looked into config files yet, though it's pretty high in my list of things to do. I like the idea, so I'll put it in the next release along with wither skulls, steve heads and rebalance the obsidian recipe to output 1 obsidian per lava bucket.
Also your craftable ores where the core is 1 item surrounded by 8 stone is effectively an octupling of the ore. Now if it were 1 stone surrounded 8 of the ore and it produced 8 of that ore in stone, it won't be nearly as bad.
Considering the drop rate on those ores, it might be a good idea to have the recipe be really expensive. For instance, stone surrounded by gold would yield 4 gold ores instead of 8.
Perhaps, just give us a config file to tweak to each of our servers.
Any chance of adding craftable slimeballs to the mod. I haven't found any slimes yet. The spawn rate sux and I really don't want to go night swamp hunting. Thanks.

"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
maybe add a dragon egg recipe? im sure hardcore ender expansion users will be happy if you will.
if you do, i think it should use a nether star in the middle, three end stones at the bottom and five ender pearls at the top (or ender eyes).
BTW, if you balance the ore recipes and make a version of 1.7.10 (plz!) i will add this mod into my modpack!
I'm not adding a dragon egg recipe. Dragon eggs are status symbols to prove you've killed the ender dragon, and can only be acquired once (as far as I'm aware, I haven't been to the End in survival since 1.6.4). Whilst your suggested recipe is expensive enough to be rare in vanilla, I will be adding craftable wither skulls in the next update, so nether stars will become less rare. Well thought out idea, I just don't like it.
As with all my mods, this will be back-ported 1.7.10 over the next couple of weeks. (Personal note, I'm sitting university final exams this week, so less coding is happening). Please link me to the modpack when you add this in, and feel free to keep the suggestions coming!

Kreezil I don't understand what you mean, are you talking about conservation of volume, as we're going from 8 blocks to 1? Also, from what I know within vanilla Minecraft gold and iron ore will only ever drop one block regardless of tool enchantments, so you won't be able to build an unlimited resources exploit. I like the recipe as it is, because the valuable material is "inside" the ore, the crafting recipe reflects this.
I will try to add a crafting config so you can choose which recipes are craftable on your server, if you wish to restrict some of the advantages, but the recipes will stay the same.
"Any chance of adding craftable slimeballs to the mod?"
No, slimes are not particularly difficult to come by on mass once you've found a swamp or spawn chunk. This mod is designed only to allow the acquisition of unfarmable or rare items, of which slime balls are neither. I suggest you explore for swamps in the daytime (take a bed to skip nights) or use a slime chunk finder online to find slime chunks and dig down below Y=40, lighting up as you go as slimes spawn in these chunks regardless of light level.

Sorry, I looked again, and your recipes are fine, I was seeing red for some unknown reason.

I see. well, if you change your mind, tell me.
currently my modpack isn't public, i'm still on the hunt of permissions (this is the worst part of building a modpack)
BUT I can say that the name of it will be The Void Adventures, or in short TVA.

Why not add saddles and names tags?
you do understand that craftable ores + fortune pickaxe = never ending diamonds and emeralds? should fix that.
also it should be able to config what is a recipe and what isn't.
except that, great mod!

Finally got around to an update! Apologies for the long delay, personal circumstances took me away from modding for a long time.
Now includes a 1.7.10 version.
Now includes recipes for sponges, packed ice & red sand.
Ores, obsidian and diamond crafting rebalanced.
Many recipes altered to be more sensible.
Check the crafting recipe picture contained within the download for full details!
