Oh. As majestyc2k1 mentioned, there are other mods by Dr. Cyano. Base Metals is complimentary to Power Advantage, Steam Advantage and Electric Advantage which are tech mods. The other way to get dust is by using a crusher (there's a steam and electric powered version).
If you do not want the tech mods, base metals is compatible with other mods. So for example you could smelt base metals in a tinker's construct smeltery and obtain alloys that way instead and forget the hammer entirely. Pickaxe will still mine these ores just fine.
Unfortunately, I did not include a simple way of changing the ore to dust conversion ratio. You could do it by specifying a custom hammer recipe for each ore if you're willing to put that much effort into it. If you think that a lot of people want to decrease or increase the dust per ore, then I'll consider adding a config option for it.
Another option would be to edit the orespawn files to reduce the amount of ore that generates to compensate for increased ore productivity.

Relatively new user here, and I have questions regarding configuring this mod.
Is
there any method currently of reducing the amount of dust produced by
the crack hammer when mining ore blocks of any kind. For example,
setting the dust produced by the crack hammer when mining an ore block
from 2 ore dusts to 1. Alternatively, a method of removing the
capability of ore dusts to be used within a smelter in order to produce
the ore's respective ingot. In the mean time I have set strong_hammers
to false in order to delay ore doubling early on, although it is not
exactly the result I'm intending to achieve.
As Long as Doc doesn't mind, I could add a config option for that, wouldn't be too hard so I'll take a look into it for you.

Oh for those who don't know me DrCyano recently added me to the project, I'm mostly doing code cleanups and working on additional content, but I do bugfixes and whatnot too so feel free to hit me up too if you have questions.

Thank you for the response's, and suggestions everyone.
I'll have a go at the config file again and see what I can accomplish. Thanks for considering adding the option, I had a look at your wiki and some of your other mods that I was not aware of also seem interesting (Lootable Bodies, Wonderful Wands). You do a fantastic job at balancing out your mods with vanilla Minecraft, and I feel like that adds a lot of charm to your mod library. If things don't fall through with the config option I think I'll be fine with what the mod currently provides (the armor and item variety is far to interesting to give it up).
I greatly appreciate it Jriwanek, I hope I'm not asking for too much in the end!

Not at all, I consider myself a student of life and I like learning things... the config file system is probably the only part of base metals I've not prodded in heavily so it's yet another learning experience for me.
I'm thinking of calling the option something like "HardModeHammers" and just setting it as a true or false, I think providing the option for blocks to be able to be broken down to more than 2 dusts would likely be a tad too OP.
At some point I also intend to make pretty much *everything* configurable (within reason) and assuming 'Cyano doesn't get too annoyed with me prodding at things. xD
On my shorter todo list, I'm currently working on backporting the new metals and gears/rods to 1.8.9 and adding some of the simpler bits from modern metals into base metals (Specifically the small piles of dust).
For those who are feeling adventurous see the issue tracker on github (specifically Issue 32) for a list of stuff which should be coming eventually and have a prod at modern metals to try out some of the new stuff (Not all of it works as yet, so if you can't make it, switch to creative mode and grab it, (just remember that if it's not craftable currently that it's not finished).
Anyways, while I'm on the thought of extra bits and bobs, if anybody has suggestions, let me know (I make no guarantees as to you getting it however) and please keep it in the scope of the mod (I'm not for example going to put nuclear reactors into base metals or modern metals).

Two handers XD
But just for the sake of a more damaging, yet not ultery OP weapon, with a decent cost. And right now not being able to use shields vs skeletons it's a suicide XD
Rightnow TiC weapons are broken (for the 1.9) they work bad.
But with that i mean, that the "two handed" sword should have a rightclick, if not it woulnd't be a two handed sword
this mod adds alot of vareity to the underground world but i gata complain abou the star steel block and doors ect, they are the most epic ore and they look like someone painted a universe onto them and the blocks are too repetative and plain to use for anything, they should be parallaxed like the new ender portal from 1.9 or something cool like that
I don't have the graphics programming expertise to implement something like paralax rendering.

You'll need another of the Doc's mods to add capability of dusts. And bioplastic is used in Power Advantage.
