I'M not a pro with this, but just a guess here, I would get rid of Java 8 Update 31 from your computer and quickly grab Java 7 instead, I know a lot of mods and I even think Forge himself doesn't react well with Java 8 yet, so it can be the cause of your problems, have 122 mods loaded with latest Forge and Java 7 and if I switch to Java 8 (thanks to MultiMC) it crash on startup.
I've been using this mod since 2013 and it's one of my favorite block mods to build with, but since then there's always been something amiss. Why is there no love for end stone? or have I missed something in a recent update?
Also suggest various colored clay variations with patterns like bricks/ tiles and such, honestly I think its probably one of the least favorite blocks of the game cause its tedious to get a good amount of it (if you don't have a Mesa biome nearby) would benefit from Chisel a lot. I want so bad to build something out of clay blocks, but their natural color and plain texture doesn't fit in my tastes at all.
You should fix the issue with Railcraft's Abyssal Block..

I swear I am going to go insane if I see one more person complain about RC. 1. Every block group added by chisel can be turned off at any time, this will fix your crash with it. 2. Check the github before making a formal report, this makes the 10th report of this. 3. Follow us or @TheChisel2 on twitter to get immediate updates on anything we do. 4. We even stated a page or two back that we fixed this.
Just to be safe, are dev versions like build #48 considered stable enough to be used, or I should avoid it and wait for an official release to avoid world corruption or anything bad that could happen, I mainly use the Chisel Blocks in my builds along with Carpenters Blocks, I don't want to risk anything even if we have automatic backups of the world every 2hrs.

Github's down for me. You may want to update the Curse page with it.

Yep. As others are saying, it's incompatible with RailCraft. Your latest dev build from jenkins working fine. Is it safe to use it? just asking. (I don't mind crashing my world).

dev == considered unstable
releases on Curse == considered mostly stable
when bugs are reported on releases, they eventually get fixed in dev, but the highly unstable nature of dev (with a couple or people turning wrenches all at once) may break things..... and the extent of that damage could be quite catastrophic (corrupt world saves, block reversions, etc)
Only run a dev version after you make backups, AND if you understand the risk!
Because of this reason, No... "dev versions" should never be considered stable enough to be used. Simply because they are released without us putting an effort into making sure that everything works properly. Dev means dev. There will be many-a-time when dev contains bug fixes that aren't in master yet, but that means that you need to be patient while we prepare for a release. Simply running to an untested version of a mod that might have a bug fix, and might be safe to run isn't a good way to think about this. The dev versions are made available so individuals can test the latest version of chisel, alone (and with suspect mods) to see if it even works.

Can you make the chisel and the diamond chisels adventure mode friendly ? I'm playing on adventure mode since GT offers the option to force it (leading in a more difficult gameplay in which you need the correct tools) but I can't use the chisels in the world. Can you make so that the chisels can mine anything but can't break stuff ? Or having the chisels in your hand gives a huge mining fatigue debuff that clears itself away once you select something else than the chisels ?
Many thanks if this ever happens to be implemented.

This does not sound like a good idea at all.
I'm not sure what the problem is... please elaborate.
There's so many nifty tricks you can use on a adventure map with mods, the sky is the limit, first mod I think is HQM which can be awesome on any adventure maps, I'm quite sure there's a lot more that I don't think about at this moment, Rogue Like Dungeons could also be a good one.
Oh... I'm so sorry, hardcore Greg. He ruins chisel so much
Basically, Gregtech ruins Minecraft, that's a mod I've played once in a modded 1.5.2 pack but I'll never ever play with it again, it was a challenge in 1.5.2 but since 1.6.4 its a nightmare, basically its not a game anymore, I respect the ones that want to play with it, but its not for me.

You should consider adding a steampunk block of some kind... Given that you have fantasy, futuristic, and other themed blocks, a nice variety of steampunk blocks would be a really cool addition.
