Funny you should ask this. Automation is currently not possible and i'm sorry to hear you've been loosing items, however in the next update there is a much cooler way to do this
If I helped you in any way or agree in my ideas or posts, make sure you click that green arrow pointing up below my post or simply huggle me! I use 1.7.10 (Modded), so when I comment that I like a 1.8 mod, I will comment to downgrade to 1.7.10. I support no pics, no clicks. Suggestions that I think that are the best deserves a banner!
It is almost time to say goodbye to 1.7.10 because of the recent surge of big 1.9 mods.
Why MCreator sucks: jcm2606's file (doesn't open a new tab) He allows/welcomes anyone to link the file, so I put it here in my signature for people to know how MCreator functions. I thank jcm2606 (he's awesome) for creating the document/file and I'm just here to spread the word.

THE BALANCING UPDATE
Okay, this update makes the mod a lot more Energy intense, it was getting too OP so things are about to get much harder.
Now almost every machine generates 5x less power and requires 5x more
Other things require more power too e.g. Flawless Calculator
Recipes have been changed to make some things harder e.g. Atomic Multiplier, Weather Controller
Additions
-Added Stone Assimilator
-Added Algorithm Assimilator
-Added Config for Scarecrow and Weather Controller
Changes
-Config: changed config folder name from "CalculatorMod" to "calculator"
-Machines: Require 5x more power
-Tree leaves: Now grow back, when a tree is planted nothing is grown.
-Diamond Tree: Now harvests Flawless Diamonds and Weakened Diamonds but no regular diamonds.
-Diamond Sapling: Can only be planted on End Diamond Block which becomes grass when grown.
-Flawless Calculator: Can hold more power
-Flawless Calculator: Requires power to Teleport
-Flawless Calculator: Requires more power to throw grenades
-Health Processor: Most items now create half as much health points.
-Calculator Locator: Generates 5x less power
-Conductor Mast: Generates 5x less power
-Greenhouses: Require 3x more power
-Atomic Multiplier: Now requires 1.5 billion RF
-Atomic Multiplier: Recipe is much much harder
-Weather Controller: Now requires 250000RF per operation as default
-Weather Controller: Requires Nether Star to craft
Fixes
-Flawless Calculator: Teleport derpyness
-More random fixes
If I might make a suggestion for something that might actually be in here already I suppose I haven't checked, what about a mod compatibility thing with Extra utilities?
What I'm thinking is:
Craft division sigil with scientific calculator, to get an advanced scientific calculator of some kind, that is exactly the same as the normal scientific calculator, except for a texture difference and name difference (And perhaps the enchanted effect like the flawless calculator?) and two additional division recipes which incidentally are also the two recipes that the division sigil is normally used for. Iron ingot/diamond and gold nugget/diamond, giving unstable ingot or nugget respectively, the ingot still exploding. The one reason a player might go for this, is instead of using up durability on the division sigil, it simply uses electricity, meaning you don't have to hunt down a new division sigil now and then.
Just a thought, but it feels like the only two minecraft mods I've ever seen with any mathimatical theming, specifically division, should do something together.

Compatibility is hard though :\
My Mods:
Fool's gold & other dumb things
Placebo Effect
Two others that I am pretending don't exist.
Also, Modding Theory.
I'll be using this in my modpack, Techonomicon, on the ATLauncher, to be released at an indeterminate point in the future.
