Nope. The closest you can get is replacing a tool part with paper for the 'writable' modifier.
Also, noone answered my last question, so I tested it myself.
And yes, the modifiers that effect blocking(flammable, stiff) work even when the tool you're using to block doesn't have said modifier, and also works if the item with said modifier is in the offhand slot.
So as long as you have an item with the modifier in either hand and is blocking, it'll take effect, meaning a magma slime or steel(if you have it) handle/extra isn't a bad choice for your broadsword.
Hopefully they'll be released in the next few updates.

Before you post something on the Tinkers' Construct thread... please read this.
If you have a crash log, READ it before posting it (and if you do, use spoilers). Some stuff should be obvious to where it comes from. Try reproducing the same thing with only Tinkers' Construct or Mantle on vanilla Forge (please do make sure that you're using the latest TiC and Mantle versions). If it still does happen, report it to the issue tracker (Yes, you have to sign up... but it's not that hard).
Last but not least, please do not ask for unsupported versions (1.7.10, 1.8.9) or ask for non-existent ones (1.8)!
I got a question regarding the colors that get assigned to the various pieces depending on material used. Is there a place that I can put a txt file or cfg file to assign custom colors ... something to match a resource pack?

If it's not in the generated config, you'll need to change the mod or use a resource pack.

Config not generated in the mod ... and I am developing a resource pack. Used to be that I could color each item as I saw fit. However, now, it is done generically with the exception of bone or paper. Guess I will have to put in a change request because I am not interested in learning to code anymore.
Yeah, they could've kept it and balanced it to be slow, and only allow it as a one-time modifier. Though there is wood's ecological trait, which causes slight regen.

Hi, where do the metal casts go now? They won't go into the pattern chest anymore; it will only let me put stencils in there. Do you just have to put them in regular chests?

They can only fit one type. So if you put stencils in there, you'll have to make another one for casts and another one for the clay casts.

Speaking of mending moss, does the tool with the mending moss have to be in a specific place to absorb xp(like the hotbar)? or does it work anywhere in the inventory?

It must be in your hand or your offhand.

either substratum or base metals, personally prefer base metals myself cause of the special armor sets and the tweakability. the current maintainer is also working on full TiC2 support.

Tinkers' bows/arrows are close to being finished by boni!
Check the progress here.
Hopefully they'll be released in the next few updates.

there is also an addon mod someone made that re-adds the bonus modifiers and the moss modifier if you really need it.
