Alumite is not longer needed on the 1.9 versions, just use an obsidian sharpening kit on an existing tool, you don't even have to change the head to upgrade to mining cobalt level now. steel you can make with either base metals or Substratum, but it is now obsidan level instead of cobalt. second best metal to manyullyn for sword blades however.

I would disagree with Manyullyn being the best for sword blades based on its new trait and the rarity of it.
Damage-wise however, it is the best.

Before you post something on the Tinkers' Construct thread... please read this.
If you have a crash log, READ it before posting it (and if you do, use spoilers). Some stuff should be obvious to where it comes from. Try reproducing the same thing with only Tinkers' Construct or Mantle on vanilla Forge (please do make sure that you're using the latest TiC and Mantle versions). If it still does happen, report it to the issue tracker (Yes, you have to sign up... but it's not that hard).
Last but not least, please do not ask for unsupported versions (1.7.10, 1.8.9) or ask for non-existent ones (1.8)!
so said it yourself u wont do any backports to 1710 and from all the changes , 1710 is no longer 171x+ or has anything similarity
thats why everything that comes after 1710 version i would never consider it as anything close to tinker construct since whole process has been changed , before this i used only TC now version past 1710 makes alot of stuff simply absolete because u need now other mods
now i cant even figure out how i am supose to get to manylin level without aluminium , how i supose to craft heart canister without aluminium...
no this is no question this is just facts , that proves that TC1710 is finished project , everything that comes past TC1710 can not be called TC anymore
so please give anything that has nothing to do with TC 1710 another name , decide yourself , but at least , save me time seaching for old TC 1710 , when ever i need it , because from what i see on TC1710+ , this mod is now useless to me and i would not use it anymore in versions 18xx 19xx 2xxx
and in the future if new TC-X keeps following current way
1) Tinker's Construct 2 is already renamed, they're just both on the same page.
2) If you've read correctly, he said that other mods add in metals like aluminum now.
3) Heart canisters may be added back at one point or not at all, but you should be patient for new content.
4) Tinker's Construct 2 is useless to you? Too bad. It's selfish of you to ask the modder to do this because of your own preferences. If you have your own problem with it, rename it yourself (via resource packs or whatever).
5) There was really no need to make this post really. Rather, this just seems like a bit of an insult to boni who puts time into making this.

I can't hit the like button on your post hard enough. You said everything I couldn't put into words.
i really like the current iteration of tinkers. next to the fact that it adds cool and creative modifiers to almost every material, it feels more balanced overall than the older versions, especially since things like heart canisters arent in.
it also feels a lot more fleshed out with the improved books and all the quality of life improvements to the crafting.
im curious, as to what the development focus is now.
the update to 1.9.4? more melee weapon types and materials/modifiers? ranged weapons? or a variety of new shields similar to how the old tinkers/battlegear crossover mod worked?

As i was saying, steel is the second best metal for sword blades to manyullyn because of its high damage and bleed effect. It's affect works extremely well with rapiers as well because of the bleed DoT damage and high rate of attack. my favorite setup so far with weapons is a rapier with a steel blade, lead guard, and bone handle, with both the damage bonus from having Fractured as well as the DoT damage from both Sharp and Poisonous, it can finish off large groups of enemies quickly by spreading out damage with fast attacks and letting the DoT stacks finish them off.
Manyullyn has a great effect as well, but works best with cleavers due to the high rate of durability loss that comes with it. I prefer a cleaver with manyullyn blade, Steel Plate, End Stone and Bone Handles. High damage plus Bleed DoT, plus enderference to keep endercowards from running away and a slight damage boost from the bone handle. add a stack of redstone and some quartz and you have a very effective weapon for The End.
I would love to see some of the inter-mod tool parts return, maybe even have Flux-Powered tool heads to replace the super OP flux modifer from the previous versions. maybe require RF powered tools to have a metal blade of at least Steel level combined with a Flux binding or plate to get the effect, so that you cannot combine RF power with low level parts and getting the ultimate tool right off the bat, as well as making it more restricting because instead of a modifier the tool now has to be built with it. As well as some new parts for Base Metals and Thermal Foundation metals such as Star-Steel and Mithril from base metals and Enderium and Signalum from TF and Substratum.
my one gripe i due have is with the shuriken. it's range and damage are far too low to be useful and i just don't feel like it suits the mod very well. i would rather have a shuriken cast that can cast several disposable shurikens at a time rather than having it as a customisable weapon, where it tends to fall very short it terms of usefulness. whenever the bows return i also think that modifers should mainly be on just the bow and have arrows with fixed stats, to better simplify the ranged weapons and do away with the Super OP Signalum rapid fire crossbows with regenerating ammo we had in the previous version.
Just my opinions on the current progress, by no means criticizing and definitely looking forward to what comes next.
Tinkers has always been a favorite of mine ever since the beginning and i feel like this new version takes the cake with the new style and format. Hope for more greatness to come!

I prefer, for all use cleavers, Steel plate and blade, bone handle, cobalt handle, and then redstone or quarz.
I found it very effective and at a decent cost, i don't usualy use manyullyn...
Also... Try using sea mats, the blocks of the sea temples, they are prety good for making effective cheap weapons... O for when you don't have a bone XD

yeah, i raided my first ocean monument yesterday and love the sponge and prismarine parts. Immediately made a pick which i named 'Spongepick Wetpants' with a cobalt head, prismarine binding and sponge handle. great for harvesting those sea lanterns and any other silk touch only blocks at high speed underwater. gonna try a hammer later with similar mats for demolishing the place completely.
that plus base metals Aquarium armor is gonna be a great combo for the task.

Yeah, love that. I might actually test that out. Can't wait for Base Metals to be available in 1.9.4, as well as TiCon 2. I'll soon be demolishing Elder Guardians with a sword made of those materials.

Awesome. Now I'm definitely trying this out. Btw, what's this efln? Supposedly an explosive of some kind. Says "Save for mining". I'm gonna test it out.
No. 1.8 is not stable and is obsolete. no mod maker is going to want to backport to it or older versions. i highly recommend moving up to 1.9.4 since that is where the action is nowadays.

Hmm, this is not the crash report. Please find that in the crash-reports folder and post that in a spoiler.

People, chill out. Opinions are opinions and have to be accepted as such, if he doesn't want to use TiC2 that's up to him.
There will always be people who wont like it, who don't read the first post and/or who are uninformed. No need to attack them.
