I apologize if this has already been documented and answered many times; Does mob spawning occur on your ships? It would suck to have a creeper appear in one of my Leviathan Class Subs empty cargo holds, heh heh. But then again.. A floating mob-farm, hmm..

Not while in motion, no. Mobs only spawn on blocks.
two things... 1. will we be seeing cannons and ship editing and other stuff in 1.7.10? 2. don't watch or it will give you cancer
1. Not immediately first there will be a patch v1.0 for 1.7.10 then there will be an update.
PS u would know this if u bother to check the progress tab on him website
Cuchaz, I've been looking into changing the properties of certain blocks but I'm not sure how to do it on single player. The guide on cuchaz interactive seems to imply the need for a server to do it.
Also, would increasing the water displacement of a block help the ship stay afloat? At the moment, when I get rid of all the heavy stuff, so that it's sailable, it still submerges nearly to the top deck.

The same config file works on the server and a standalone client. And yes, increasing the water displacement for a block will cause it to produce more bouyant force for a ship.

Thanks!
so just to confirm, if I wanted to make nether brick fences lighter I'd type in the text document:
tile.nether_brick_fence:0.25:0.5:false:false
EDIT: This doesn't seem to work. I even tried giving planks a displacement of 150 just to confirm that I was doing something wrong. Nothing changes.
Using my Mac's text edit program, I made the text document and put it in the config folder in .minecraft, as it's called on Windows (just minecraft for me). It was named shipBlockProperties.cfg. I don't know what I've done wrong.
I think I already have. I put it in the config folder in my Minecraft folder. I can't see another folder abbreviated to conf, unless I'm looking I the wrong place.
Maybe the problem is that I used the Mac program, TextEdit, rather than Notepad.

I looked at the latest Forge log and it didn't have that. Although is didn't appear as if it was the latest log as it looked like it was saying the version I had was 0.9. I'm not sure how to view the actual latest log for Forge. All the normal version logs were up to date.
That was such a huge pain in the butt to port, but it's done now and everything seems to be working very smoothly! You can download it in the usual place. If you're looking for the older versions, they've been moved to another page.
And, I've updated my TODO list! I'll probably make a snazzy YouTube video showing off the new Ships Mod and then move on to rebuilding my mod loader M3L and the much-anticipated Tall Worlds Mod. Oh, and I need to find time to update Power Tools too.
Maybe it's finally time I make a thread in the real mods forum for Ships Mod instead of the WIP mods forum?
Firstly, great job on the port! Everything seems to be running fine.
In regards to my issue, after trying to get it to work for ages, I'm confident that the reason it's not working is because I'm not using Windows Notepad but rather the Mac version, TextEdit. The file has a different icon, which doesn't change when I save it as a .cfg. Is it possible that the mod will only read Notepad files? If so, then anyone who has a Mac won't be able to use this feature. :/

There shouldn't be any difference (to Java) between the two different programs you're using to write the cfg file.
Wow, I was not expecting 1.7.10 for a while! How long should it take for a ship to initalize? I've been waiting for about 5 minutes now.
It should be instantaneous. Unless your ship is ridiculously huge... and the it should take a second or two. 5 minutes is WAYYY too long. Check your logs for shenanigans.

Is it possible he's using a different encoding or something, and it's making your config reader have a fit? I'd imagine this is unlikely, but different operating systems very often handle different encoding formats differently so it might be worth looking at...
Sharkfin try using "Save As" (or whatever you do to change encoding in TextEdit), and check that the encoding is ANSI. If it's not, then try setting it to ANSI. If it is, then try setting it to UTF-8. If that doesn't work then I'm all out of ideas.

Yaaay
But don't worry, you'll probably only have to redo all the block getting and setting again for 1.8 when you get through all the other projects

It was under 1k blocks. Other ships are doing it too now. They load and then the framerate drops so low that it is seriously 10-20 seconds between frames. A less crazy example happened a bit ago. Ship lagged out when throttle was applied, but quit once it was brought to a stop, but still at the helm. The only ships I've seen this happen with are ones in the ocean, though I've only had two not in the ocean and they were under 20 blocks.
Mind telling me what logs? I take a quick peek though them though. The launcher says 800k ms behind.
EDIT: A quick look reveals nothing except massive item lookups.

I mean the server and/or client logs from Forge. The mod should be able to handle 1k blocks with no problems. Mind sending me your ship via the clipboard? Then I can try the ship on my server and see if I have the same problem. Are you using any weird mod blocks?

Sorry, the folder is called config. If the mod read your file correctly, you should see some text in the log that looks like this:
https://bitbucket.org/cuchaz/ships/src/fd32ed4ca0686e1f0a58676813c950285266b0c0/src/cuchaz/ships/config/BlockProperties.java?at=default#cl-94
