Was actually excited to finally test this out, but then NullPointerException the moment I clicked launch. Do have tinkerer's and smarter moving though so if it's from that. In the mean time back to Archimedes, cause that actually runs.
This looks like the same bug as this one. It's already been fixed in v0.8 beta. Sadly, this crash is only a symptom of another bug, but without the full forge log for the Minecraft instance that crashed, I don't have enough info to track down the root problem.
Like a sword on ships. You point the ship levitator towards the ship, click, and it will move upward of ten blocks.

Thanks for the log. The crash is there, for sure, but there's no evidence of the root cause I was imagining. I guess this problem is already fixed in v0.8 then. =)

I have returned.
Cuchaz,
I am going to build an 'As accurate as posible' 1:1 scale USS Providence over the next few days. She is almost the same size as the USS Tenacious. There is a lot of info available, including a 1:1 scale replica that is currently sailing. I plan to build two ships. One true to life, loaded with guns, ballast, ect. The other enginerred to the phisics of the mod with wool spars no ballast and other weight savings to float high and run fast.
The newest version of iron clad battleships! It has more armor, more cannons, more appeal, and more function.
I love this. She reminds me of the CSS Virginia. I am truly impressed. I only have a minute now but I will look at it, in game, tonight.
With only 2000 blocks I doubt I could do a three masted, square rigged, tall ship justice. I bet the HMS Warrior's iron hull will not work with the mods current phisics.
Truth is, because iron hulls can be made much thinner than wood, they are lighter.
My forum icon was painted by Frank Frazetta.
It is the cover art for a book by Edger Rice Burroughs called 'The Mad King.'
This is my small tribute to a great artist.

oh, I thought the warrior was the first, but I guess I was mislead
The Gloire was the first ironclad in service.
The Gloire had an iron armor belt (Broadside) on a wooden hull.
The Warrior was the first iron hulled warship in service.
The Warrior has an iron hull and a thick iron broadside.
This is the same way battle ships were built for the next 80+ years.
You are right to call the Warrior the Predececor of the battleship.
The only way I would call you missinformed would be you use of the masculine gender, Grandfather.
To the best of my knowledge, ships are all referred to as female.
(Hitler made an exception for the Bismark. He considered it so masculine he insisted it was male. I don't consider Hitler to be sane.)
Why female, well would you rather rest in the belly of a man or a woman?
I like the ship in your Screenshot and icon. I hope to sail her one day.

To Everyone,
I reccomend Torojima's Buildhelper mod. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1803250-16x15xforgetorojimas-buildhelper-014-and-021/
The Block remover tool removes blocks rather than breaking them.
With it, switches can be directly on dispencers, ladders can be made to free stand and other usefull tricks.
I use it to better aproximate reality on the ships I post.
The other tools can be used to make/remove large tubs of water.
Usefull for functional drydocks.
This is my final version of the Stingray. She is an ironclad, steam powered, patrol ship. Armed with functional(When docked) dispencers and painted lapis blue.
The yellow wool accents are for Au Finger who saw the potential of a stealthly ship and taught me how cool dispencers on ships really are.

1. I knew warrior was first at something 2. it is a fact hitler wasn't sane after some gas attack in WWI 3. i hope she is a very good sailing ship in the near future.
oh, you want to sail her? well for the map thing I don't know how to do that, teach me how?
plus her name is the Alicorn (in the pic it looks like alocorn but the I for that font is weird and makes it look like O) and she isn't finished yet, I have to set her sails and add a tp thing at spawn because the map is for a ship pvp. plus their is also two more ships on the map, a frigate and a 2 masted sloop
Cuchaz, when ships is out of beta, do you plan on releasing it as both 1.6.4 and the newest minecraft, or are you only supporting whatever the current minecraft is?

No longer crashes so that's a plus, works pretty well given that you just fall through with smarter moving, but with creative flying and a helm you can still sail the boat without having to stand on it. Two issues though, one boats disappearing at certain angles/positions from view, happened on 2, didn't on one. Second suppose less of an bug issue than just an issue of water going through doors and hatches.
Other than that it works nicely, the buoyancy calcs were a nice touch. Probably won't ditch smarter moving for it since ledge climbing and crawling's got far more utility but will try again should that get that fixed.

The HMS Warrior is a fine ship.http://en.wikipedia...._Warrior_(1860)
Yet the French Gloire was first.http://en.wikipedia....ironclad_Gloire

Try building a scaled down version of the Gloire.
The Gloire had a wodden hull with an iron armor belt called a broadside.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LaGloireModel.jpg
She was also barquentine riggged when first launched. (Maybe 60% of the canvas/blocks of a square rigged ship.)

There's a healthy mix of bug fixes and new toys in this version:
Other than that it works nicely, the buoyancy calcs were a nice touch. Probably won't ditch smarter moving for it since ledge climbing and crawling's got far more utility but will try again should that get that fixed.
