Don't give up this mod will be as successful as the Aether even possibly better. This mod has no limits maybe we can get some achieves! Anyway this mod sounds like a lot of fun and I can't wait for it to be done. ^.^
Quicksand: its like sand but darker and insanely Dangerous. If you step in it you will start to sink slowly and move slowly. Its easy to escape just keep jumping to prevent you from going in too deep but you will need ALOT of hunger to escape cause every 3 jumps will drain 1 drumstick and one you have 3... well its time to kiss life goodbye. Once in a while you will find a Patch of it that will sometimes lead to a odd mob that says congrats for finding me heres a pair of Anti-Sink boots which will prevent you from sinking in mud and quicksand (your not safe from tar though :3)
Ride-able Snapper plants: You know Snapper Plants *cuts to a moment getting eaten by one*... probably not good memorys.
Well how about one that rides you around the area. To obtain a ride-able snapper obtain a seed from a snapper by killing it (it deserves it my feet hurt from those things) then you need to plant it in a Swamp dirt farm patch. it takes 10 mins to fully grow but once it does it will be worth it. you can move quickly though the land to area to area... but as a consequence if you take fall damage or damage of any kind your little buddy will be destroyed and then you need a new seed.
I personally think the animator should be used to animate more than just the idols. For example (as dylan suggested) Putting the angry pebble in it would get you a small and sorta weak boulder sprite that follows you around (yes i'm aware you aware you said no more mobs but its a really cool idea anyways please direct your attention to my next example). So another idea is that perhaps in villages there is a very rare chance of you finding a scroll with a picture of an "Elder Spear" (or some other item just made that up as an example) in a chest. And you put that scroll in an animator to recieve that rare weapon. Just thought the animator could be made a bit more complex and useful.

Maybe you could use algae to craft a Net that you can throw, it would stop the mobs for 3 sec. and after that it slows them down.
= algae = vine = between stone
Since there is no day-night cicle in the Betweenlands, it's impossible to set your spawn using a bed. However, you can use a Spawn obelisk to set your spawn, so you can die in the Betweenlands without having to work all your way back.
Making on (various ideas):
- Right-click Craq rock with an Elder staff. This will turn the Craq rock into an obelisk with weird green inscriptions, and ofcourse a wight face! Right-click it again (no special item necessary) to set your spawn.
- Craft it! You could use a Life gem (or a Middle gem, if the Life gems are extremely rare) to make your obelisk. The color of the inscriptions would have the color of the gem your using.
- Find it naturally, in dungeons! Sort of a checkpoint.
Retrieve your beautiful craq rock by:
- Destroying the Obelisk.
- Right-click it again with your Elder staff.
I hope you like this idea.
Maybe it could be called a Spirit Binder/Stone to add more effect.

Bookmarked for sure, you have no idea how awesome this looks to me, i'm looking forward to this more than the aether II, You should also add Mud Skeletons, skeletons that rise out of the ground if you happen to walk by one, when they are in the ground they look like a half buried skeleton, blending in with..mud? It rises out of the ground when you get too close to it, it has the model of a skeleton with its arms out in front of it like a zombie, it's slow, but when it hits you, it applies a very strong slow debuff that lasts for 3 seconds, it's effect slows you down to the point where you are slower than itself, letting it continue to attack you. It does 1 heart of damage and drops dirt, or mud. It is meant more for an inconvenience than a threat, also you should add spectral skeletal horses and spectral skeletons, that, if they happen to meet (get at least 3 blocks away from each other) the spectral skeleton will mount him, giving him increased speed. It is the normal model of a skeleton with a scythe, and is slightly see through, for its attack it swings the scythe around next to him repeatedly, giving him no attack cool down and will not do any knock back, does half a heart of damage but it;s repetitive swinging is most definetly a threat. It drops a spectral doll, that can be animated with the table, it looks like a miniture skeleton that is ghost like, the spectral horse is hostile and does 2 hearts of damage, it is the same speed as the player, and if a spectral skeleton is mounted on it, it goes as fast as a sprinting player. The horse can be tamed with a crystal saddle, crafted with 3 normal saddles in a bowl shape with a diamond in the middle. I had this mod in mind, and i cannot wait for this to be released, could you use forge to stop item sprites from spamming? thank you. Bookmarked, and upped rep.

ONE: There should always be a sort of light drizzle going on to add an asthetic effect to gameplay. It is a swamp after all.
TWO: Maybe you could also give snail shells to idols and it gives them armor (like clay soldiers)
THREE: Building off Dylan's spawn obelisk idea. Perhaps you could use aqua middle gems to teleport. The obelisks could act as a receiver to teleport you to. Allowing you to effectively teleport to your spawn when necessary, perhaps an obelisk could spawn next to your overworld portal as well. That way you'd never lose your way home.
FOUR: I'm hoping you'll be giving your villagers the ability to trade like regular ones once 1.3 is released.
FIVE:You should add some kind of mossy green crystal that acts like a dim torch. It would be smaller than a block and only appear in dungeons/temples. It could also be crafted out of green middle gems mixed with sulfur and mire coral. When crafted you would get a stack of sixteen Crystals. I could make an example texture to show you what I mean if you'd like.
SIX: You should add a sort of prize item that you could get for assisting villagers enough. It would be a tribal flute that would call (spawn) a couple of village warriors to your aid

Sounds interesting although all it sounds like to me that the mod just is a parallel universe except ones swampy and has more mobs and a few more liquids, but other than that they seem the same. Perhaps I need this mod explained to me...
