For my 1st full Axe, I prefer to get a full stack of bowls ASAP (for more milk!), and to craft tons of wooden shovels that I try to avoid breaking. Thus not only faster gravel grinding, but also fuel for cooking meat.
My best record is 9 days to reach Copper Pickaxe, but usually it is around 30 days.
I've also been having the Steve skin bug for about a month now. If I switch to vanilla my normal skin is back so it is indeed a MITE issue. Here's the weird thing: I'm still playing in r104, but I still got the Steve skin bug right around the time other players reported it. This would indicate to me that it is somehow independent of the version which doesn't make any sense to me.
If you need to break the dragon egg, I've found that you can use TNT to blow it up. Also on a related note, in r104, detonated end stone drops as cobblestone. I'm not sure if this bug has been fixed in later versions.

Edit : It is now day 32 of my world, and to my surprise, after a full day of thunderstorm (my relatively-high abode was safe from being struck by lightning, though!) a blood red moon rises and fills the night sky! As if me still not able to set up a permanent shelter with little progress towards the copper pick is not bad enough! Anyhow, now that gravel is a problem no more, and wood is virtually unlimited for me, would it be wise to turn my tree into a perm shelter (i live in a tall tree with a neighboring tree i can bridge to) after trying to craft a torch? i need to find a way to put this bed asap..
So i finally gathered all the coppers i will need for my pickaxe, and managed to secure mysefl 4 iron, 4 silver, and 6 copper alongside a whopping grand total of 3 coals..
But i didnt know, you will need Cobble Furnace to smelt, and with the use of the pick left, i only managed to gather 4 cobblestones before it broke D:
Anyone know any solution to this? I tried getting a creeper to blow up some stones to no avail.. at this rate i would need to gather 27 copper nuggets again, and gravel is hard to find because i have already depleted all gravels within reach..
Thankfully due to the abundance of wood i had, i managed to turn my tree base into a semi-permanent shelter, bed and all.. now i'm trying to figure out how to lure spiders and kill them slowly with fall damage so i can craft fishing rods.. because i have a lot of nuggets!
Yes pretty sure a creeper can't get you stone, unless you dive down to the depths of hell and walk up to a red creeper. They would help you out with that.
I think you get pretty bad drops even from them blowing up beside a tree, occasional stick I think?
I got a NoClassDefFoundError with the latest R195 when try to create the new world.
I have manually go throught the installation setups under an archlinux.
I first download 1.6.4 and copy the jar accordingly and move the content of class/* into the root folder of the 1.6.4.jar and rename it to 1.6.4-MITE.jar.
Am I missing something? thks so much!

Does apple drop from trees at random chances now? I went to a nearby forest in hope to find some berries, but found apples on the ground instead
Yup, random chance of dropping apples or sticks. Wish they would also drop blaze rods but no such luck.
at least spiders dont drop from broken leaves which is nice

Yeah that was a bad mistake. Here is the ideal use of your first copper pickaxe.
Total Durability of an Average Quality Copper Pickaxe 4,800
Item/Block Durability Qty ...Cost
Cobble............ 240 ........8 ....1,920

Copper ............250 ......11 ....2,750
Total Durability Used .............4,790
At this point you either have to get another 27 copper nuggets or try to setoff a TNT using a button..... if you can get yourself 5 gunpowder
