I only have forge and thaumcraft 4 installed, there are no other mods. I think i will not play until this problem is solved. I don´t want to log in and start researching again, only to find that i suddenly lost progress again.
By the way, i really love thaumcraft , and i find the changes to research fine, not good or bad, just different. One you get used to it, researching becomes a nice little puzzle.
just make a backup every time you stop playing.
if this only happens upon releoading the world, it shouldnt be too painful to copy your world into a folder every time.
One last question, I have been walking for hours trying to find a taint biome, are they not in TC 4?
They're definitely in TC4. My world has like seven in a 2km radius. It's crazy... there's one for almost every magical forest it seems. They like to be beside each other.

Trouble is, the problem might lie with saving instead of with reloading. There's no way to tell, unless you happen to check your NBT data right before logging in and finding the bug.
You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
I find it hard to believe you have scanned almost everything, but a good source of new primals is exploring and scanning nodes, or you could place Crystal Clusters/Bookshelves etc near the Research Table, which will give regenerating 'ghost points' that you can use
Wait... what?! Is that true? Is that somewhere in the Thaumonicon and I just overlooked it?
Any help is appreciated. I'm totally lost (and thoroughly annoyed).
Sounds like something might have gotten knocked off a pedestal or eaten early on or during absorption, and you didn't notice it.
You typically want a diving board like stair to get a good above view of your infusion altar so you can watch that stuff with a hawk's eye.

As far as I can tell, it's more of a side effect of having a certain number of primal aspects within the crystal cluster blocks themselves, but yeah, they're good for giving you regenerating bonus points. You only get one per primal, and it's used last after all other primal knowledge points, but you can combine it, whatever, and it'll eventually come back. The Thaumonomicon just says that Crystal Clusters are classy decoration, and that's about it. The ghost point system isn't really expanded upon.
Also recall that the Deconstruction Table (pretty sure you can get it by researching Perditio) will give you primal knowledge points by eating items. I like to use Greatwood Logs. And definitely new aura nodes, which give lots of primal knowledge points.

Since the only kind of symmetry the altar cares about is each object having another object directly opposite, you can just put all the pedestals in two groups on opposite sides. Then you can watch them all at once without a special vantage point.
Also, if you have just enough essentia for what you're planning, and something gets knocked off a pedestal, it can overdraw the jar. If that happens, the infusion is ruined and you'll have to cancel. Best to have a generous margin of error for all the essentias you're using.
Also, if you were enchanting something, the essentia costs increase by 10% for every level of existing enchantments other han the one you're adding. For instance, if you're trying to take a pair of goggles from Respiration 2 to 3, and it already has Repair 2 and Protection 4, your costs will increase by 60%.

I've been having some trouble with researching and I am not sure if things are bugged or I am doing something backwards. I've had multiple people on our server look at it and nobody can see anything wrong.
What am I doing wrong, I've tried moving these points EVERYWHERE. I've probably burned through an irrecoverable amount of research points but I just want to understand how to get this working. Is it bugged?
Again, I've tried many layouts, this is just one of them. Why won't the points connect?
*edit* Playing on FTB Horizons, so this is the version for 1.6.4 I believe.

AS a guess, the active node furthest to the right is the first active node on the research. It has to stand at the end of a line, not in the middle. So the node at the bottom left would be the one you should try to connect to.
Thanks for the feedback about my infusion problem. I ended up getting it done by placing the salis mundus all alone on one side (I've got paired pillars on each side of the altar). When I started the shard loop, I started on a different side rather than starting by placing air on the pedestal next to and on the same side as the salis.
While I did have my entropy shard knocked off, things went as they should. Per the advice, I added a bunch of crystal clusters. Still, it sure seems some things are way, WAY too prone to instability... and us not knowing exactly how much we can mitigate through extra stuff is... vexing.
I'll also take the additional advice and put some of them around my research table. *Any* kind of regeneration will help me.
Trouble is, the problem might lie with saving instead of with reloading. There's no way to tell, unless you happen to check your NBT data right before logging in and finding the bug.
I'm almost certain the problem is in loading as I've encountered this before. Using my most recent backup fixed it.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
Has anyone else had like greatwood planks and silverwood ones disappear? They're still there somehow though just invisible till you place another block, like dirt or something next to them, then they come back, remove the dirt and they're gone again. Not sure if it's TC4 related.
So i noticed some of my aspects have aura thingies hovering above them in my research table meaning they regenerate i think. How does this work? Simply adding more blocks that contain certain aspects doesnt seem to work.
Do a thread search for the phrase "ghost point".

and the search on here will remove the quotes and find every single post that has at least one of those key words. I'm certain "point" will show many irrelevant results. I'd help explain it myself however I don't know too much about this. This is not a concept explained in the thaumonomicon as it should be.

Okay, so clearly, I just ing fail hard at this mod. Or maybe just at infusion.
Tried to make a Thaumostatic Harness.
20 crystal clusters. 30 tallow candles. 9 goddamned pillars with the odd one at a corner. I have around 40 mob heads. I've got all that crap around the altar, handing on walls, sitting on tables.
Start the infusion.
Sucked up all of my hard earned essentia (another friggin problem I have with distilling). Destroyed 3 comparators. Destroyed both my gold bars. Flooded purple crap everywhere which wiped out a bunch of my floor items.
Totally hoping that the player.dat research packet-size, login client-crash bug thing is fixed soon. Any and all things Thaumcraft have been put on hold because of it, which sucks the big penis.
Perhaps your altar is too cluttered. I have symmetrical infusion altar with 8 pedestals that are as close as possible, each with a candle behind it. I rarely encounter more than one negative flux effect.
It's not just this. I rebuilt the altar from scratch and made sure everything was perfectly symmetrical. I repeated the thaumostatic harness infusion and it took the items, didn't complain... *but it kept taking essentia* and *doing nothing* and so I just cheated in the harness and... well... it's not helping my state of mind.
For giggles (as in, gouge my eyes out and break all my fingers kind of giggles) I tried to get a recharging pedestal for my wands. But guess what? I can't seem to get Aurum essentia. Anywhere. It's murderingly frustrating.
And of course there's nobody out there actually doing infusions on youtube or breaking down how to get rare essentia.
I appreciate the answers and pointers I've gotten here but I've really just hit a wall. This mod (on top of some AM2 issues and Natura f**king nitro creepers) has pushed me beyond my limits of patience.

That is rather odd, because I made my Thaumostatic Harness with 12 Candles, 4 Skulls and 12 Pedestals, (Laid out using radial symmetry), and I had no Flux effects at all... Maybe you are just getting extremely unlucky As for Auram essentia, maybe you should have a think about what would contain Aura...
