My config files seem to be missing research options. It looks like this:
####################
# research
#===================
# Various research related things.
####################
research {
}
When i try to research anything the table turns a piece of paper into research notes and minecraft becomes extremely laggy and i can't click anything. No crash. I have to shut down minecraft manually. When i load the world again minecraft lags when i look at the research table i used. Can anyone give me a normal config file?

That's how it's supposed to look, so your config file appears to be generating correctly.
Unfortunately, I've no idea what would be causing lag when trying to research.
I was kind of hesitant on messing around with TC4, because it was sooooo different from what I was used to. But I have to say I love several of the new systems in it. The Alchemical Furance with the Alembics is a god send compared to having distill essences down in TC3.
Question though....are there plans to slightly boost the power of the Repair enchant? In TC3, it was a necessity on any piece of Thaumium gear, and it still seems like it is. But the ticks to actually Repair lost durability seem to only tick once every 15-20 seconds instead of once every 2-3. I know that nodes have been completely overhauled, so I was rather curious about this.
Also, is it possible to merge nodes still to make larger ones? I want to try it, but don't want to risk losing the 2 really, really nice nodes that are near my current base that supply a lot of Fire and Ordo aspect.

For the first, probably not. Repair had to be nerfed since it's completely free now. Even if it's slow, it's still a technically infinite durability item and nothing to be sneezed at.
For the second, nope. It's not a bad idea to cluster nodes near each other (The ability to move them is unlocked partway through the tech-tree), since this makes recharging easier and saves you time once you get the ability to automatically recharge wands.
Been playing around a little, and made some interesting discoveries.
If you set up a crucible underwater, it still works, and can't produce any flux because the water replaces it as fast as it's emitted.
If you're in creative and you want a really angry crucible, drop in a stack of bedrock. That'll keep it continuously overflowing for a loooong time.
Compound recharge pedestals are really good for filling up wands that see a lot of use on one aspect, or small draws on several aspects. They're weaker when it comes to filling up new wands, or wands that have been used for high-drain jobs like jarring nodes.
If a wand recharge pedestal is in range of multiple nodes, it will access them in order of northwest to southeast (the South-East Rule). If you have a compound focus for it, and have a node with a really flexible compound aspect like Humanus that you want to use to fill in the cracks your other nodes leave, put it in the southeast corner of your node collection so the pedestal taps it last.
Thaumic Slimes can merge together into a bigger slime. This can be a natural form of population control, since the biggest size "merges" with other slimes even though it can't grow anymore.
The following items have no aspects: Infernal Furnace, wisps, mana beans/pods, cocoa pods. Also, for some reason all golems have the same 3 aspects (aer, terra, praecantatio), and cores still take 5 essentia to inscribe.

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
There have been a few times I went to sleep and came back to see I missed out on 2-3 pages of posts. Things have just began to slow down on the thread. Seeing as this mod has been out for only a month and it's got 194 pages and 3877 posts (3878 if you count this one and no one ninja's me) I'd say it get plenty of replies.
Let's also not forget that there have been a few post explosions as well. I can say I'm guilty of being apart of a few of them.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
I have decided to take war to the "taint" as my colleague Salarahan calls the strange purple land.
The substance is the stuff of nightmares. When I walk across it, I am sometimes overcome with a sickness unlike any other. The feeling is superficially similar to that felt in a strong magical field, but... twisted somehow. What's more, whatever beasts die within its influence rise again, bound by the disgusting vine-like growths that mar the land.
There seem to be creatures unlike any I have seen before now here as well. A great long tentacle slashed at me one night, and as I sought to flee from it more rose around me and attempted to bind my ankles. I cut them down with my sword and ran. Shortly thereafter I was pursued by a swarm of tiny stinging insect like creatures, issuing from the crusted stump of what was once a tree. The fire focus of my wand made short work of them however.
After my initial attempt at beating it back first with spade and pick, I have found it is far more insidious than I had previously imagined. Whatever I remove grows back, even when all that it could possibly grow from is gone. With mundane means out of the question, I turned to the thaumaturgical and set to researching Vitium, the essence of the foul place.
My attention was soon caught by the flowers that grow near silverwood trees. These shimmering beauties have an essence of purity, and after some magical tinkering had a flower that was able to grow even in the harsh conditions of the taint.
The effect upon placing it was spectacular. I fancy I could hear the taint hiss in fear as it recoiled from the beautiful plant's glow, the corruption shrivelling backwards at a visible rate. This will not be a swift victory, but I feel it is within my grasp. The land will be saved.
Also I will get vengeance for the damn stuff dissolving my boots. I liked those boots.

I was just surprised to see the thread having so many pages after 1 month.
It's fun reading these. I bet it's fun to write them too. I kinda want to do something similar about my research on the taint as I've spent quite a lot of time watching and experimenting with it. It'd feel like I'm trying to copy you if I did though. Eh, I guess I'll only do it if other people want to listen and if you're not offended by what would look like mimicry.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If you actually enjoy my stuff enough that it inspires you to write something, I would be overjoyed.
Regional difficulty: The longer you spend in one area, the harder it gets
Scales with difficulty - items, enchants or AI improve with difficulty
I believe this applies also to angry zombies from Thaumcraft. So its not Thaumcraft, its Minecraft itself.
Ouch. What's worse than multiplying zombies with a speed boost? Damn it, Mojang. Despite this, I never had much problem with zombies even in Hardcore.. The fact that Thaumcraft 4 requires you to have a difficulty for full access can be annoying, but..
Okay, on-topic. The Greatwood and Silverwood trees aren't flammable, just saying, because I'm desperate to reduce lag and mobs in a Magical Forest.

Oh. Yeah... sarcasm is sometimes hard to tell with plain text.
True that.
Maybe if I had have italicized it...

And yes, they're great fun to write.
A magical centrifuge! Just what the thaumatic laboratory needs.
I'm a bit skeptical with the pipes, that's for sure, unless azanor makes them more than just pipes and valves.

Another writer, huzzah! Slowly but surely we shall make the entirety of the thaumcraft user-base into journal keepers. And it will be glorious.
