He's not giving up on it, it's just on hold until he has time to get back to it, read the first post before assuming the mod is dead
Are you dumb? I did read the first post before "assuming" anything and it was written a long time ago. There hasn't been anything done it to since 1.8.9... as far as I am concerned, the mod is dead unless he actually writes an updated statement saying otherwise. And... way to not be helpful. I was mostly wondering if there was another kind of mod out there like this one. Not wondering if this is a dead mod or not, cause I really don't care about that. Try reading my full post, instead of just the first few words before assuming I'm only talking about a dead mod.

It was not written a long time ago, it was an edit to the original page. Unless you see a two month period as a long time ago, it has not been on hold for that long (and some of the 1.10 features were already being worked on). It stayed in 1.8.9 because most mod authors make the jump from 1.8 to 1.10 because there was never really a point in updating to 1.9. It would make it twice as tedious then to update it to 1.10.
he just has to find someone whos willing to port it for him (which some capable modders have offered to him). its not necessary to publish the source code to everyone, but only to give it to a specific person he trusts.
in the end its up to him, but if he was willing to accept someone to just port thaumcraft 5 would be great.

No, he doesn't have to open source it. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea. If he's worried about the rights, he can just patent it. I highly doubt someone would try and steal the idea knowing the imposing risks behind doing something like that. I'd love to take a crack at TC myself.

If you can trust authorities to persecute people over Minecraft-related IPs.
I write music. I wouldn't give my WIP music to someone on the internet who is known as trustworthy by the community, and I wouldn't put my WIP music for anybody to come and publish it for themselves, even if they did give me credit.
With this perspective, I'd guess that Azanor won't give up his code too willingly unless it's a close friend, one that he sees in person on a regular basis, nor would he post it up for anybody on the internet.
But, I'm not Azanor, so I can't say for sure at all. I'm a creator, though, so I thought I might share some perspective.
I think it's time to get over Thaumcraft. It's an awesome mod, definitely, but there's no use in hoping for it's return.
Kind of like an ex girlfriend/boyfriend (if you've had one.)
It's time to let go, friends.
If you can't play Minecraft without Thaumcraft (which I doubt) you can always go and code your own stuff. I'm sure you all have imagined what Thaumcraft v5+/v6/v92 will be like. I find it myself to be more satisfying to create my own music, where I can do whatever I want, rather than listen to music and think, "dang. I wish (x) had been in that song."
The same might work for coding for any of you guys.
Since this mod isn't being updated anymore, does anyone know of a good alternative mod that's like Thaumcraft? Thaumcraft, imo, was by far the best magical/wizard mod I've played on MC. So I was wondering if anyone knows of any other good magic mod.
Or perhaps does anyone know how to make a port to newer version of MC? For instance, Botania didn't have any official release for 1.8.9, but someone made an unofficial Botania with a port for 1.8.9. Yes, it was allowed, they just needed to make/link some official statement about it. If you use Twitch app, you can find it under 1.8.9.
Magistics, Etheric, Lost Thaumaturgy, Thaumic Potatoes. First two are Thaumcraft-inspired, second isn't released yet, second two are like standalone add-ons. Haven't tested any myself yet.
I don't know if another modder is picking up Thaumcraft yet.
It is all up to azanor to decide. I had a great time with thaumcraft ever evolving over the many years.
My hope is that some fellow modder will be allowed to port 5.2.4 to 1.11.2 and beyond... Like williewillus did with permission from vazkii with botania.
but above all I want to thank azanor for all the time and work he put in thaumcraft!
Man, i've always played with Thaumcraft for so long, That starting a mod-pack without it almost feels as if a beloved pet has died.
For the first time in a LONG time, starting Minecraft is going to feel... Lonely.
It's a strange thing to feel. That vainglorious hope that it'll one day be updated soon, while knowing full well that such a thing is now highly unlikely.
I don't think i'll ever be ready to leave Thaumcraft behind, Not entirely. But i guess it's something we all have to accept, for now.
For what it's worth, i wish you desirable experience in your work, good tidings, and many well rests.
May you live a life worth reliving. And thank you, For sharing this bead of wonders with us.
A Bit too melodramatic? Heh, See y'all next time folks! And good luck. : )
I wonder. Maybe Azanor doesn't want to open source his TC code, because it doesn't exist.
Maybe Thaumcraft was made by magic. Elegant bit-flipping magic.

What warp does such a powerful Thaumaturge suffer from?

So how many other mods made it to be resumed?
I remember Red Power not being updated.
The Betweenlands was completely cancelled, and yet, here it is today.

I never heard of the mod.
Okay, so why post here, then
I made a D flip-flop!
You should check it out. It's on par with other exploration mods like Twilight Forest.
Errm I wasn't even referring to Thaumcraft, I was replying to someone else. if you have noticed.
Convention for replying is to use quote messages to prevent this exact kind of situation.
Off-topic stuff should not go here for obvious reasons.

This is hands down the best magic mod for 1.7!
This is soooo cool!
