It could also refer to magic that is outside of accepted practices, or simply less powerful magics.
The usual usage is that a "hedge wizard" or "hedge alchemist" is an unschooled practitioner with no formal training, who knows only what he's figured out on his own by trial and error and possibly a bit of hearsay and folk tales.

Isn't the Thaumonomicon the record of your own researches?
My guess is that's a sort of multidimensional repository of knowledge that explains more about a concept, but only once you know what it is.
Kinda like an infinite dictionary without the table of contents (and not alphabetical).

I agree here, it basically has everything you need to know, and only displays it after you've learned about it. It only looks empty.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

Maybe it's sentinent and only shows you things once it considers you worthy of knowing it.
That would explain why it suddenly unlocks the eldrich tab, it thinks "eh, he can't get much worse than that".
I wonder if the Crimson cultists have any rival factions?
The Carmine clerics?
The Cobalt cabal?
The Cardinal clan?
The Cerulean church?
The Chateruse creed?
The Copper cops?
The Carnellian comunion?
The Chocolate coalition?

I don't know if this was every asked and if anyone knows, but, what happened too the cool research table model? I much preferred the double table and was wondering if maybe adding 2 transformed tables next to each other would have them merge/connect would be possible.

I am fine with both tables, but what ABSOLUTELY ANNOYS ME is the need to rmeove the scribing tools from the table in order to get new research.
Maybe the second table could be for putting the Thaumonomicon on it, making it possible to get new research without having to take everything apart.
Sorry for a late reply, but the modpack I playing does have.
That's because the modpack creator is a wuss.
It appears that so many fools were whining about Thaumcraft research being SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying and complicated that it wasn't worth doing that for their hypercool Alumentum grenades and primal foci, that someone made a mod to explicitly bypass the Thaumcraft effort mechanics for their rewards.

Does the Thaumonomicon actually contain ANYTHING? Maybe you're imagining the text. A non-thaumaturge player looking at your Thaumonomicon would see only blank pages, and wonder what you were scrutinizing so intently. And perhaps get a little worried about that slightly crazed look in your eye....
Chocolate Correlation... wait that makes zero sense....

I'm all for the gauntlet working with vis straight from the aura instead of storing it. I think it feels like it'd flow better that way.

...where does the knowledge of the Thaumonomicon come from, though...?

Hello guys, I have a problem with my Thaumonomicon. I was starting thaumcraft today and I tried to click a bookshelf with a iron tipped wand,
however, that gave me a Thaumonomicon which is FULLY researched. How do I fix this? I wanna play legitly :/
Do you have Thaumcraft minus Thaumcraft or something installed?

There's a config option to replace all the scroll business with exp purchasable research, right? So what's even the point of a mod like that?
I think it also gets rid of warp entirely. Though I don't see the point either, you can hack warp away without it anyway.
