Well, that'd be really cool actually. I remember something similar from another Thaumcraft addon actually, it was like a claw with a node clutched within its grasp.
There will be tiers of casting gauntlets, but their only difference would be recharge rate and vis capacity (so far). The meat of modularity will now lie with the foci
So our new casting tool will not be filled with eldritch self-recharging mind cancer? That's sad.

You know, going back to the "infinity gauntlet" thought ... instead of tiers of gauntlets, how about an upgradeable gauntlet? (Or perhaps combine both concepts.) Have slots in the gauntlet itself which enable you to upgrade it by installing ... oh, foci, magical glyphs, various different types and tiers of upgrades each of which either adds a new ability to the gauntlet, or upgrades or augments some specific property of the gauntlet. Higher tier gauntlets made from materials with higher magical affinity could then differ principally in having more upgrade slots (and, on a further thought, perhaps bonuses to the effectiveness of the upgrades). A basic leather or cloth gauntlet might have only one slot. The heirarchy might go something like cloth/leather (equivalent), alchemical brass, gold, thaumium, voidmetal. You could have several different gauntlets each optimized for different purposes. The upgrade slots could be semi-permanent — which is to say, you can remove an upgrade to replace it with a different or better one, using the proper tools, but with a variable chance of breaking the upgrade depending upon the type and tier of upgrade. The lowest tier of upgrades might be as simple as a piece of paper (or a chip of stone) with a rune inscribed on it. Perhaps the lowest tier of runic upgrade might be paper, then stone, then runed metal sigil, then runed gemstone.
And ... should gauntlets go in the offhand slot, or in a Baubles slot? Why shouldn't you be able to hold a staff (or a pickaxe for that matter, or a chicken egg, or a pork chop) in your gauntleted hand? Instead of a Hoe of Growth, you might perhaps have a leather gauntlet fitted with an upgrade that causes accelerated growth of any crop or seedling planted using that gauntlet.

Problem is, none of the baubles slots currently display in either hand, last I checked (Correct me if I'm wrong). Which would probably mean a new baubles slot. Which, given how crowded the inventory screen is since its last update, isn't likely.
Besides, it can easily be explained away: channeling that much vis with a pickaxe in hand would just break the pickaxe.
That or the gauntlet doesn't have moving fingers, instead acting a bit like a metal boxing glove.
I will personally miss wands and how they (and this mod) have evolved since I started with TC2. Will they make any appearance as an offhand tool? Will there be a magic/infused shield? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!
This is literally the only mod I am waiting for before I dive headlong into another massive playthrough. I also plan on building a map to propose to my girlfriend some time in March, so the itch to play MC again is strong.
Theres a arachno-looking thing in background in second screen.. At first glance it looks like wand recharge thingy which you put on arcane crafting table. As it no longer requires vis from wand, the model might have been repurposed to maybe vis spider?
It could still be required as an increase to the amount of vis the arcane crafting table can use for a single craft...
The gauntlets on the thaumium fortress armor seem like a good enough model to go after to me. To be honest though, I've grown pretty attatched to having a wand. Perhaps you could add both a wand and a gauntlet? Like, so you could pick between which one you want. I'm more of a wand guy... maybe people who want gauntlets can use that as an alternative though. I'd rather have both wands AND gauntlets than just a replacement though.
Maybe if it was just a choice of what kind of artifact you're going to use to channel vis through? Like, one guy might use a wand, another a gauntlet, someone else a hammer or a sword or something. Idk. If you've ever watched the gaunts season of Bleach you'll know what I mean by that.
The chest sculpture is me filling chests with random items for scanning purposes (yes, scanning an inventory now scans all the items inside it as well).
It is pretty hard to control exactly where stuff emit from in a consistent manner. For the most part it will be pretty much the same as the wand so don't expect things to actually come out of the gem. The limits to vanilla minecraft's animations are annoying at times.
Edit:
It does look like the whole modular rod/cap things will be going away as well as the distinction between wands, scepters and staves. Since arcane crafting no longer requires a wand there is no longer a need for sceptres anyway - Casting gauntlets (wip name) will just be used as a multitool and for using foci.
There will be tiers of casting gauntlets, but their only difference would be recharge rate and vis capacity (so far). The meat of modularity will now lie with the foci.
I really like the design (for a first pass) but maybe it should be just a little bit higher poly? Not much mind you otherwise it will look out of place. I really like the idea of the gauntlet being the casting tool especially since it lets you wield a mainhand weapon or tool. If you're mining you could have a pick in one hand and an excavation focus in the other to get things further away.
Will the foci have a similar upgrade system as before?
You should see if Daimen can make a good model for the gauntlet, the current one is kinda, well, eh. As for the animation, just make a sparkly glow effect at the generally onscreen position of the hand, like some kind of magical muzzle flash. That will obscure the fact that the magic isn't coming directly from the gauntlet. Also, the the gauntlet should change to an open palm when in use, with the fingers splayed out.
I logged in for the first time in years just to tell you how much I like this idea, and for a first pass (even a last pass!) I think it looks great. Thaumcrafts always been one of my favorite mods, and I've been having to find new ways to build and enjoy minecraft while I wait for your update. The wait looks like its going to be worth it.
Am I the only person here hoping that the great and powerful Azanor just says "To heck with it!" and makes a full set of armor like this to go with the gauntlet of awesomeness?

There are already several sets of armor in Thaumcraft.

Void Metal gauntlet with Eldritch Guardian projectile focus? That'd be dope as ****.
And imagine the addons! Surely a few new ones will spawn besides the usual tinker and forbidden. Ichor gauntlet yougetwhatimsayingwinkwink?
Guess I'll be working on a TC addon:

Yeah, maybe an Eldritch gauntlet? Basically wielding the powers of the Eldritch beings themselves? Extremely dope.
I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

Harry Potter will be lost without his Wand!
maybe we can have a Hogwarts School at our Local Village?

My first mod =D
For all the overwatch fans!
Azanor is the gauntlet voiced by Terry Crews?

But not kinda that are steampunk that run off of vis and stuff. ;3
Buff wizard casts Bigby's Interposing Hand, than puts a gauntlet on it and slaps you with it.
