Since I've changed my setup, I won't really know because I had to get an old world backup to test, but adding Optifine seems to have fixed it. Interesting...

So I was messing around with Taint in creative mode, and I noticed something that it probably a bug. The Taint will never spread out of a certain area, no matter how much flux is in the aura. Screenshots below:

someone posted a longgg time ago (hundreds of pages back now) showing this as well. they also found, contra some recent posts, that taint will not grow on glass. i assumed it was a conscious design choice. it is reassuring to see the 4-chunk-range result repeated because i have some taint near my starting base in 5.2 and was worried i would be overtaken soon if the taint mechanics had changed.

I just had a peculiar thought. Lately we have been discussing Thaumcraft features focusing almost solely on Thaumcraft itself. The Thaumcraft mod is cool and all, but we tend to forget that it is a Minecraft mod.
So what Thaumcraft features can we think of that would really fit the theme of Minecraft as a whole?
This suggestion add more redstone integration and I really like the ceiling-Minecart idea as well. What is Thaumcraft's vision on The End? What about horse-breeding/enhancing. Can Thaumcraft do that? Generally, what do people do in Vanilla Minecraft that Thaumcraft could immerse in?
I think TC doesn't dabble in those vanilla features/completely obsoletes them because they're straight up garbage.
That said... I'd totally like to see the mount code retooled to let me have my own ender dragon.
heck that might even not be a half bad idea with the new dragon breath bottles. A renewable source!
-It could be that my last idea doesn't really fit the theme of Thaumcraft, but I want to share it anyways. I came up with this idea when reading about the suggestion of rail systems with the Arcane Bore. Other than the Thaumostatic Harness we don't really have any means of transportation in Thaumcraft, so my suggestion would be some kind of "Arcane tracks", on which you could hover with your Thaumium minecart or even some kind of tracks on the ceiling with which you could basically levitate above ravines. Just imagine how awesome that would look (If the floor of the minecart was made out of glass, of course)! These tracks would use a little amount of vis to make the minecart levitate and also accelerate it. It would have a higher maximum speed than the normal minecart and also less slowing down as this minecart wouldn't touch the tracks. Of course, you could also build different versions of these minecarts, for example with chests in it etc... However, like I said, I think this hardly fits the theme of Thaumcraft...
I think Thaumlev minecarts would fit the theme just fine. Especially if they chewed up less material to build over long distances.

It'd be nice to see the carpet return, i miss that little thing, but at the same time on the topic of mounts, im still fairly interesting in an alchemical construct steed, be it horse, dragon, or any other sort of creature in tc, it would be interesting to have it work more or less like golems ,where constructing the thing would give it different properties, and you can place them and put them down with a wand, or maybe specifically a staff, depending on how big the thing is

I play only with the top notch mods only, which instantly excludes orespawn and lucky blocks.
Thaumic-enchanced horse could be interesting, but it would require a lot of enhancing. Something like flying+immortal+summonable+teleporting steed.
Thaumic horizons in tc4 has an explosive pan dimensional firey, lava walking, teleporting horse. If horses didn't always seem to be so laggy I'd love it. Infusing mobs actually fits in really well with tc theme and art style hopefully some one does something like it in tc5. Maybe golem cyborgs...

Edit: I discovered that the taint DID spread outside of that area, but for some reason it was waiting for EVERY SINGLE CHUNK in the are to be COMPLETELY tainted, which was pretty tricky being as there was a village over some of the chunks.
Actually, that is not so surprising. The speed of pretty much everything in (modded and vanilla) Minecraft that moves/can do something over time is based on that tickspeed. I guess wands recharge faster as well?
Not sure about the wand part. Wands recharge at a fixed rate based on the aura, not randomly.

Also, fun fact about Taint: Editing the randomTickSpeed gamerule will affect how fast Taint spreads!

Every tick the games does something. If the games runs with more ticks/s then more stuff happens.
In fact you cannot escape the tick system unless you link something in your mod to external realtime.

The randomTickSpeed gamerule doesn't affect the amount of ticks, it affects the LIKELIHOOD of a random event to happen per tick.
