So I have a superflat world using Overworld preset. Using spawned-in obelisk, capstone, eldritch portal, and eyes, I am unable to place the eyes on the capstone. Also, using a Sinister Lodestone, there seem to be no naturally spawning portals in this world, and I can't spawn in a working portal from either creative or NEI. Wat do?
Also, is there any way to actually destroy nodes at all now, other than feeding them to other nodes?
Finally, the Shock Focus with Earth Shock doesn't leave the shock field on the ground anymore, it's simply a burst attack.
I should get my brother to describe his Skyrim character here. The one who responded to the "Can you enchant my sword for me?" guard by actually stealing his sword, enchanting it and giving it back, and who fights dragons because he's addicted to dragon souls...
An honorable but not particularly good Imperial, who doesn't like hurting people without a good reason, but thinks that it is perfectly acceptable to bait someone into trying to kill him and then killing them to take all of their stuff. When faced with the choice whether to join the Dark Brotherhood, my character killed them not because they are horrible, evil people, but because their leader dared tell him what to do. He dislikes both factions in the war and generally remains neutral, although he does hunt Thalmor for sport. He also has medium awareness, and finds it frustrating that the game doesn't have content for his plan of forcing both sides to submit to his personal authority, marching on the Summerset Isles, sailing to Atmora and declaring himself emperor of all of Nirn. More realistically, he has seriously considered just killing both leaders. He also wishes he could threaten people with "how would you like to spend eternity as a +12% bonus to my alchemy skills?".
I also have a Kajiit sneak (pidgeonholing, I know, but justified by likely upbringing) whose first rule of morality is that if they didn't think it was worth protecting better than he was willing to steal it, it must not have been very important. He also considers a bit of good-natured theft to not be a big deal.
I'm observing an odd behavior. When I first start my 1.8 server, it is fast and responsive, but after it's been running three or four hours, suddenly I start experiencing substantial lag, and the server console starts filling up with messages like these:
If not restarted, the lag eventually grows until the server is unusable and can't even shut down in a timely manner.
Has anyone else observed this? The server's not heavily loaded; there's only about 30 mods in this starting 1.8 modpack, with Thaumcraft, Biomes o'Plenty, and Plant megapack really the only large ones,, and the same machine happily runs two simultaneous instances of my 1.7 server (live and test) which has over 100 mods including numerous major mods (TC4, Mo'Creatures, Thermal Expansion, Forestry, Railcraft, Project Red...). Despite having many fewer mods and no chunkloaded regions except the world spawn, the 1.8 server is using more memory with only 30 mods than the 1.7 live server with 100. It's definitely leaking memory somewhere. It starts out using 1-1.5GB of RAM and grows to 4.5GB within a few hours.
Yeah that sounds like a memory leak. That type of thing might be hard to track down without running server monitoring tools.
There is actually a bug with aura nodes causing lag if there are a lot of them within a few chunks of each other and I fixed that for the next version, but that is not technically a memory leak and the symptoms aren't quite as you described.
If you could maybe throw some monitoring stuff on your server to see if you can find a cause that would be much appreciated.

Memory issues:
When searching for performance problems on a server, your first stop is the servers own gui - if you havn't disabled the gui that it, it will report on its memory usage. If you are running a FTB server (or any) on your local machine just remove the "nogui" from the end of the command line. If hte memory usage is reaching 100%, you need to increase the -Xmx parameter.
Mod issues:
I have found WarmRoast to be easy to set up and quite easy to use.
It can attach to a running server (well, any jvm hosted process) and browsing to its web page gives you an easy to navigate call tree (that supports Chromes "Save Webpage to disk" functionality apparently so you can mail it if you need to)
Entity issues:
Some mods are a problem on servers as they can create many MANY entites. Thaumcrafts 4's unstable node for example are notorious for emitting aspect orbs when chunkloaded - as the Node - being a tile entity always receives ticks. Plain entities however (aspect orbs for example) do not receive always receive ticks, so if there is no player nearby aspect orbs from an unstable node do not decay away, resulting in a buildup of 10k+ which will lag any server.
Install / enable Opis on the server and on your client only, '/opis' will bring up a window that will let you see which dimensions, entities, tile entities or chunks are causing problems.
Something that always seems missing from these books or interfaces is the ability to navigate pages with the arrow keys. I'd love it if the Thauminomicon could do that, switching back and forth is a bit painful on my wrists. Research table even more so, it's really needed that for a while. Can't recall, is backspace to return to previous page after clicking a recipe a thing or is that just the arrow?
Arrow key navigation would be a nifty feature.
You can return to the previous page with the escape key. The inventory key might work as well; I'm not sure.

I always wished for a questline option to let me kick all three factions — the Stormcloaks, the Imperials, and the Thalmor — out of Skyrim and talk or threaten the Jarls into putting Elisef the Fair on the throne as High Queen. I kill Thalmor on sight as it is, just on principle. Skyrim for the Nords, but everyone else who wants to come to Skyrim and live in peace should be able to do so too.

I'll see what I can do. Farproc, thanks for the diagnostic suggestions. (Unfortunately Opis isn't out for 1.8 yet, but I'll see what the server GUI can tell me for starters.)
Nope, no WAILA. I am using a beta build of NEI, but the problem didn't appear until I added TC5.

I think it would be great, but I'd keep the Stormcloaks, just without their racist leader. In the end, I'd become leader of the Stormcloaks, force the Legion into an alliance, broker a deal with the wood elves, orcs, dark elves, and khajiit to ally and fight against the Thalmor. A new Great War, less casualties on the Skyrim side, Thalmor take a big hit thanks to the alliance of all the races as well as me controlling all sorts of wild beasts and even giants with illusion magic or the bend will shout. I believe it may be like this:
My nord character forges alliances with other races while my khajiit one assassinates Ulfric in his sleep. My mage character learns illusion spells and eventually becomes capable of controlling giants and mammoths and raising a massive undead army. Finally, my assassin Khajiit teaches the others of his race his outstanding stealth and assassin skills, the mage teaches the College of Winterhold how to wield destruction and conjuration magic (along with any other mages he encounters), the Nord (Dovahkiin) secretly gains the help of the remaining dragons (who are under the leadership of Paarthurnax), then leads his army into battle against the Thalmor, staying close to his lover, Serana (she's cured and Harkon's dead).
Second Great War ensues. Thalmor take heavy casualties, my Nord's army does as well. Eventually, the Khajiit caravans roll in, showing a peace offering. Psyche! A group of Khajiit assassins sneak out and slit the throats of several Thalmor. The Thalmor just keep sending in more soldiers. All hope looks lost until Paarthurnax and his dragon brethren show up and annihilate the Thalmor. The remaining survivors and their general surrender immediately and agree to a deal that wipes away the White-Gold Concordat and agree to leave Skyrim and never come back.
Excuse me, I speak bad English.
I have a few questions.
1. How to study aspects of the second half in the last section (eldritch)? 46% at the current moment.
2. Void Metal Essentia Smeltery. She studied after learning that the pearl drops from mobs in outer lands, as I understand it?
3. How to get to the outer earth? The eyes of the guards, I knocked on the obelisk and installed, but the portal does not open. How to learn this way?

this is way off topic but my dream mod for skyrim is
a very involved post-revolutionary questline where ulfric is away
negotiating the peace and you need to use intrigue to call the moot
behind his back and have yourself declared king. you achieve this by
building a coalition through guild-style questlines. you have to balance
idealism against politics - for instance aiding the dark elf refugees
will upset the hardliners in the military. you can also kick out the
corrupt jarls in markarth/riften that you need to put in power as part
of the civil war, but that will also be costly. if you're too idealistic
you'll see desertion which invites the thalmor or the empire to invade.
compromise your vision of an independent and open skyrim too much and
you've become exactly what you were trying to destroy
Okay I’ll give it a try, there is problem creating new world and loading world, but not every time. In some high random chance, I’ve get this log.
A few things:
1) Putting the crash log in a pastebin or in a spoiler is thebest way to post these.
2)This isn't the proper crash log this looks more like a log generated by Multi-MC. With the Vanilla launcher when a crash happens it displays the crash log. I did find a section that looks very similar to a normal crash log so I looked through that.
Here are the things that I found related to Thaumcraft that may cause an issue.
Which is worth fixing, but shouldn't cause a crash.
At the bottom of the crash log is a section that indicates that the issue is with MineFactoryReloaded and Thaumcraft Compatibility.
[23:56:25] [Server thread/ERROR] [FML]: Caught exception from MineFactoryReloaded|CompatThaumcraft
There is more to this section, butI would bring this up on the MFR thread.
I also found this:

I just discovered a nasty bug when playing around with arcane levitators in my TC5 test world:
For every arcane levitator I placed in the world, the local aer vis immediately dropped by approximately 20% of the max level! Even when I had placed redstone torches next to where I wanted to place the levitators (so they would be switched off imediately) they still drained the aura by the same ammount when placed. After the initial placement cost, they only drained a little vis when they levitated things or players, like they should do.
The Thaumonomicon doesn't say anything about levitators having a placement cost, so I'm pretty sure it's a bug.
Until Azanor fixes this, I advice you to be careful about placing arcane levitators in your survival worlds.
I like to build Thaumcraft themed bases and structures from time to time. Templates can be found here:
AlphaeusXVIII's creations - the templates require the Ruins Mod to work (the screenshots obviously don't) and the README!.txt file is there for a reason. Enjoy now with templates for 1.8.8!
So I have a superflat world using Overworld preset. Using spawned-in obelisk, capstone, eldritch portal, and eyes, I am unable to place the eyes on the capstone.

Found something odd last night - it's not possible to scan an armor stand.

just drop the item on the ground and scan it that way ._.

Yup. Eat the Zombie Brains to gain more Warp. Do all the Research that gives Warp. Then just wait till the next epiphany. I'm still waiting on mine...
