A elemental rod is more for people who lack an element. You might haven't found any perditio node, and you need it desperately, as you don't have a mob farm. So it will recharge itself with a bit of peerditio and will have an extra discount, making easier the journey. I agree that they are very situation specific. Also, an icy rod recharge aqua, so for automatic table for warded jars is very comfortable.
Prior to getting a primal stave, an obsidian wand/staff is rather nice for the huge amount of terra you'll burn through digging with the excavation focus. It's not like Terra nodes are in any way difficult to find, but it sucks running out underground.

I get this crash whenever I create a new world, and so do 30 others, it seems. We all seemed to have Minecraft 1.7.10 when the mod version is 1.7.2, is that what is likely to be causing this crash, or is it something else? If it is, then should I wait for a 1.7.10 release of Thaumcraft, or is there some way around it (other than downgrading my Minecraft to 1.7.2)?
Minecraft now actualy has armor stands in the next update! Your's defenitly looks better though.
the armorstand made by mojang is a moveable entity and get pushed aside easily. bibliocraft and my armorstand are stationary and are blocks(or might become a block)
Waiting excited for this mod to update! is there any ETA on 1.7.10 update? (Understand that it's soon!)
I am using Thaumcraft-1.7.10-4.2.0b8.jar and while there are a lot of new features in it there is a lot of work to do. Many of the new features are not fully fleshed out yet. I think there is at least 2 - 4 weeks still of development time. Of course I could be wrong. I just started the patreon for Azanor so I have only had access for two updates so I don't have a feel for the pace of the development time line yet. But if you are impatient I suggest supporting Azanor thru http://www.patreon.com/azanor

If 4.2 is still 4 weeks off, it would be really nice to have a bug fix release of the 4.1 series.
Things like:
Infernal Furnace crashing
Directional pipes broken
Alchemy golem priorities are wonky
Link to bugged version of Baubles
And one or two other things which generate 95% of the tech support queries in this thread.
I should probably sign up to Patreon and test these things in the beta. But it feels wrong for me to pay to spend my time testing the beta when I get paid to test code in my day job.
Can anyone confirm or deny that "Treasure III" on a focus of equal trade works correctly, when it is (For example) asked to equal trade coal/diamond/lapis ore?

Seeing that it's on Forgecraft, it's probably pretty 'soon' (guessing 2 weeks maybe). From the sounds of Aurey's livestream/recent youtube video, there's this bug where clicking a bookshelf with a wand crashed the server, so obviously those bugs still need to be worked out. (and I think she said that was Tema, not Soaryn this time. )
It's been on Forgecraft for 2 weeks already... Are you implying it'll take a full month of Forgecraft testing until we get it?
The thing is that unlike a lot of mods this is not just a port of TC from 1.7.2 to 1.7.10. Azanor was in the middle of adding a lot of new features to TC. So while a lot of mod makers simply had to change a few build bugs between the two versions Azanor is still completing the new features and working out bugs in the new features... I am using the 4.2 beta builds and it seems as if there is still work to be done in the 4.2 feature set Azanor has in mind. So its not as if this is just testing on forgecraft and closed beta test users. Azanor is still adding new features.

This could easily be tested in a single-player, creative mode with some NEI enchanting magic (via the X-key).
Get a wand, get a focus, enchant the focus, get a coal ore block, poof, tested.
While I understand the whole 'They're doing it for free' (Kind of now that he's selling beta), it's a hobby, etc, really wish mod authors would update their mod to the next version, THEN start adding new features. Mods with worldgen hold up any form of updates because if someone updates their server without that mod, there goes all the blocks.

He was working on it for the next update when Forge magically updated to 1.7.10 the day of the release of that version. And rather than try to give us something for an incredibly buggy and broken version of Minecraft, he decided to push on to the next version as quickly as possible while keeping the new features.
I, for one, am happy that someone cares enough to not just shove a quick update down our throats and call it a day.
Quote from seraphimrock»this mod has retrogen meaning it will regen the stuff when you load it into your world
Exactly, meaning pre-existing worlds will still get their stuff other than magical forests and tainted biomes, which, depending on what you're using, aren't too bad to find either.

You have to wait, or downgrade.
no, hes currently working on the 1.7.10 version.
Now that is a fancy armor stand.

Anyway, keep waiting, and

Minecraft without Thaumcraft is like a pizza without cheese, tasteless !!!
The seals were pretty neat, but most of em haven been replaced. Mostly by golems. I'm just waiting for a replacement for the portal seals...
