I'm having trouble doing research I have the runes I need activated and near the nodes but nothing is happening. This is when I'm researching anything with two or more nodes that aren't activated and two or more runes needed.
You need to research them with the thaumometer, try scanning stone stuff first, and combine the aspects in the research table. A guessing game of sorts. And for the cheat sheet that needs to be activated in the config before you can get it in creative.
so I just found this texture pack and it looks pretty sweet and as far as I can tell so far it doesn't override any of the thaum graphics http://dokucraft.co.uk/portfolio/dwarven-pack/

Yo dawg, I heard you liked mining diamonds with diamonds so we put diamonds in your mine so you can mine with your diamonds while you mine your diamonds.
Not sure why, but Thaumcraft seems to cause Tundra biomes to become ridiculously more frequent, after I've removed ExtraBiomes. It seems like any world becomes 50% or more Tundra.
I don't understand this Research Point system at all.
I've successfully researched about three things and I'm already running out of points.
To get more points, apparently I need to either
-travel the world, searching for nodes. That'd give me, what, four points every Minecraft day? And also be super boring?
or
-research the Deconstruction Table. With the research points I don't have. And I don't know which aspect to use anyway. And the recipes are seemingly random.
or
-put crystals by my Research Table and wait. A long, long time. I stared at those numbers and didn't see any increase at all, and my desk area is covered in crystals. Maybe they all cancel each other out??
Bonus: the Thauminomicon actually says that crystal clusters have no use. Thanks a lot, lying book.
So the taint is crawling around and I can't fight it without research, which I can't actually do.
And I can't guess what the aspects I don't have are... because that consumes MORE research points.
Have I missed something? Is some weird mod conflict wrecking everything (I'm using ATL)? Is the mod dependent upon killing mobs (as a Peaceful player that makes things a bit more difficult)? Or is the system actually this screwed up?
I'm super bummed out. This feels like a game-breaker.

to get research points you need to use the thaumeter on EVERYTHING.
example is - stone, cobblestone, stone steps - pretty much anything you can make with stone you need to research it (as well as wood and so forth and so on). grass, flowers, leaves, nodes, fishing poles, fish, cooked and uncooked stuff, pretty much everything. You can't learn everything right away though so you need to actually get out there and explore while trying to research. You can also combine the primal aspects together to learn some of the other aspects on the table. (if you learn an aspect out in the 'wild' it will give you many more initial points then if you learn it by using the table)
while the destruction table can aid in getting primals it takes (and destroys) A LOT of stuff to get much of anything though imo its faster then relying on the crystals. For air I use sugar cane (renewable resource that also gives water and terra aspect). The crystals also recharge primal points very slowly but its still good to set them up around your table.
as far as taint...as others have said there isn't too much you can do about it other then digging a trench between it and you all the way down to the bedrock or using silverwood saplings (we just ended up moving entirely to a nice little sakura forest)
use the thaumeter on EVERY node you come across. Most will give you points but some won't if its similar/too similar to a node you've examined before.

A big part of making research easier is to make all the things you've researched. They tend to contain the aspects of whatever you put into them and then some.
I've completed every research other than the lost knowledge ones, and have over 200 in each primal aspect and a few dozen of most compounds. There's WAY more research points out there than you could possibly need to research everything.
Azanor would be maybe possible to add option to switch off this "blinking effect" on thaumometer ? While it is cool effect it is tiresome to the eye at the long run.
Another person who can't get research to work here. I'm working on the paving stone of travel, and after 4 failed research notes I generated one that looked promising and gave it a shot, but I just can't get it to work:
What am I doing wrong here? There's only one open space between each of them, so I literally can't tell what could've gone wrong. Another thing, I've changed the positions of those two terra(earth) nodes and suddenly they stop working even though they're satisfying the one open block rule, and then suddenly the chain of iter(1) and volutus(2) at the bottom activates.

for this i'm going to assume that the node on the right side is the starting point and if that is the case then you need to move the runes that link the starting point from the bottom most point. use those rune to link the left upper most point to the bottom point instead
you can't make the starting orb go in two different directions, you have to make one single line that connects all the points

Are you then stuck and unable to progress further? Or is there something I'm just not getting...
There are fall-back methods to get points. Scan nodes (and node-alikes, like totems), place crystal clusters near research table, use Deconstruction table(s).
Is there a way to create new node (other than node-in-a-jar) or add/replace aspects of a node?
I ask, because I have three nodes in my home, one of which changed it's aspects several times. So I suspects this has something to do with what I'm doing, but can't figure the system.
You could also guess logically what aspects are needed. I'll refer you back to page 37 for a more thorough set of tips on researching. I will caution that the most used research points are Motus, Sensus, and Praecantatio so its best to use them to look for research notes so that you know that they will be used.
the glowing line cant split, you have to connect them from the last node you activated. That is presuming you started with the node on the right.
jExDeuce,
Thanks, that was exactly it! I now have my moving sidewalks! I was really stumped since the Thaumonomicon didn't mention anything about the direction of the chains. But that totally makes sense.
Ps. Deconstructing golems give back upgrades and cores but not accessories.

What aspect is Auram again?EDIT: I hear its made with air & magic.
