Thaumcraft has custom banners. At least it used to, but that's not the question. You can mod everything.
As I recall, Evilcraft used to have banners too, but when vanilla came out with them, EC just dropped theirs and deferred to the vanilla banners. Thaumcraft should do likewise. Thaumcraft could certainly add thaumic heraldric symbols produced by using Thaumcraft-special items. Aspects from vials of essentia as before, perhaps a balanced shard or equivalent for the Thaumcraft symbol, appropriate drops for Crimson Cult, Eldritch, or tainted insignia. (Mutatis mutandis for shields.)
I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
so hey, I've got an idea for making taint seem more "lively", By making taintacles start sprouting near the edges if you try to purify a patch of taint inside of a taint biome. Maybe even have taint-bug-swarms being attracted to areas being purified as well, Reacting to their presence like a immune-system.
They probably shouldn't destroy the flower though, As that would just make it a nuisance to use them.
(offshoot idea)
Unless of course, They kept growing as they purified, Absorbing the taint and using it as fuel for its growth. needing you to protect it only until its grown large enough.
I'd imagine that if that was the case though it'd purify/grow in pulses. Building up a internal charge before releasing it, Immediately purifying nearby taint instead of gradually over several minutes. And eventually it'd grow into a great tree (that maybe have unique properties or materials that could be harnessed?), Absorbing taint until there's nothing left then starving and withering. This withering could even release captured/purified Vis into the air as well?

Dude, that's an awesome idea, especially the second part. Azanor, please??
Edit: Also, maybe the standard blooms we're all used to don't grow quite as big, only ever getting just barely big enough that we don't need to protect them when at maximum growth. There would then be an upgraded version that grows and grows and grows until it's a massive tree that can eat all the taint for miles around, however making that one would be expensive and Taint would be even more hostile to it as a seedling because its innate purification ability is so strong. Thus requiring you to protect it very well until it gets big enough to fend for itself, and being at risk of losing the resources that went into making it, because it's all a waste if the taint manages to kill it.
I hope someday there's more magic in Minecraft, though I know it's not likely to happen. In the meantime, I play modded a lot. I enjoy a lot of other games too, so don't expect me to be on the forums all the time.

Azanor approves! Now let's just hope it doesn't turn out to be too hard to code...

Coding should be pretty simple for someone with Azanor's experience.
Modelling, however... That stuff always takes more time than you expect it to.
Though it would be especially good for TC PVP modes. Protect the Ethereal Bloom. One player uses taint to try and overwhelm the ethereal bloom and destroy it, while the other protects it.

Yeah! "Unique properties"... how about restoring the biome's natural flora?

And also, imagine if the tree that the bloom grows into did release Vis into the air when it withered... All of the crazy warped Thaumaturges looking to maximize profit could dump flux to make taint, grow a huge tree and then shut off the infernal furnaces/crucibles/essence smelteries/whatever else makes flux and watch the tree wither and die and saturate the area with Vis for said crazy warp-maniacs to use. Course, as a balancing factor to this Taint should be very destructive, almost to the point of TC5, that way you really would have to be crazy to do it on a server. lol

Well if you did have stuff that produced taint, an ethereal bloom like that would sort of recycle the used vis at the cost of it's life and the materials needed to craft it, so I can see that happening...

Cool ideas need to be posted to the Thaumcraft Suggestions area on GitHub so that they can be tracked.
So I've been struggling with a bit of a decision and I thought I might post it here to get a second opinion. Not sure I want to do it as a poll though.
The research table with it's minigame will still be around in TC6, however it will basically be a crafting mechanic to make "Theories". Theories is one of the new currencies you require to unlock research. For example, unlocking Infusion crafting might cost 5x "Observations: Magic" and 3x "Theories: Magic". Observations you get by scanning stuff (for the most part).
The problem I have is as follows. Where to get the pool of aspects required to finish the old aspect puzzle. In earlier incarnations of TC it was gained by scanning and in TC5 you just had a pool when you crafted the research note.
Now I'm thinking of making require breaking down items. In other words you need to sacrifice something with AER to be able to get AER points to complete the puzzle. Combinations are no longer possible. One of the reasons I'm considering this system is that in the great scheme of things you will be spending a lot less time at the table thus I want to give things there a greater cost.
The alternative is the TC5 way - in other words you start with a pool of primals and you need to combine them to finish the puzzle.

What do you guys think?
I think the TC5 way seems simplest, as not only is it cheaper for beginning research, it is still challenging, as you won't know what makes more complicated research and may end up using the entire pool and not get what they need to complete it.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
You could edit the mojang symbol to be a thaumaturgy rune, maybe?
Otherwise I don't think it's possible.
Praise be Ro-naza, greatest among the thaumaturges!
I think there's a way to make a mod that includes custom banners.
