Question concerning research in Thaumcraft 6/II. Will it be like Thaumcraft 4 or Thaumcraft 5?
I personally found the Thaumcraft 5 research to be aggravating, a lot of wasted research because I would get insufficient research points where it would be impossible even with a research helper. Also many of the changed combinations made little sense and seemed to be changed just because of the limited research points.
I would prefer the Thaumcraft 4 approach, where I would stockpile my research points and then spend hours, even with a research helper, working my way through the Thaumonomicon. I also liked the inventory scanning and needing to find out the aspects of items, rather then it being kinda handed to me before I even got into Thaumcraft.

I played through tc5 almost entirely (couldn't get the eldritch tab unlocked, but I did all the other research) and I never once had to waste a research note, I barely ever came close. It just takes practice.

No offense, but I cannot understand people like that. I tend to have at least a third of my points left after any research if I thought about it at all and didn't just spam two aspects.
I think azanor is trolling us all by making us wait so long to play TC6
I'd like to think that he isn't trolling us, but I can't help noticing that it has been quite a while since we last heard from him at least on the forums. His last post here was at the end of February and the last activity on his github for the thaumcraft beta was nearly a month ago. Since he uploaded the .lang file I figured that the mod was nearly completion.

Except the .lang file isn't anywhere near complete, if you check it. Several sections are missing entirely, and because TC6 involves a full rewrite, that can add up to quite a while of time. He's addressed his patrons recently (if not on the specific topic of progress), so he's not entirely radio silent. I would appreciate another foci teaser or somesuch, but beyond that I don't know what or whether to ask.
Sorry for the lack of recent posts. I've been completely buried in work and not been able to make as much progress as I would have liked.
Also I was stuck on a decision regarding research which was holding up a lot of things. I wasn't very happy with something I wrote, but redesigning it would have undid a lot of work and taken a lot of time. I've finally decided to make that TC 7's problem and stick with what I have
Azanor, Thank you for the update. Take your time and dont stress yourself. As much as I miss TC in 1.10.2, I wish you not get burned out and I will wait as long as it takes. have fun!
I played through tc5 almost entirely (couldn't get the eldritch tab unlocked, but I did all the other research) and I never once had to waste a research note, I barely ever came close. It just takes practice.
I picked it up and was using the latest version of the research helper, it was early game and I had to keep throwing away research notes because I consistently did not have enough of that one primal which was needed for half the aspects I needed to complete it.
It lead to me getting frustrated and just giving myself all the research rather then deal with that really not fun system. No where near as fun as TC4s research system was for me. Also I could not for the life of me see the point of the thaumometer, as scanning things did not seem to give me any tangible benefit. Unlike TC4 where I took one with me everywhere I went and scanned everything I could because each scan was helping me with my research.
Hey TankHunter678, i agree with some of what you say. The research system in TC 5 was more difficult for individuals who have trouble with puzzle games, as well as less rewarding for those who are good at such games and prize efficiency. It certainly made exploring and research two separate parts of the game... And although we are not going back to TC4 research, Azanor is a rather sharp fellow and has been working hard to make the shiny new system a fun and more integrated way to play thaumcraft.
Hope this helps put you at ease a bit.

Dude. Seriously, don't sweat it. We all immensely appreciate your work, but at least 90% of us fully understand that you have a life outside Minecraft too.

Yeah you are one of the most dedicated mod developers out there, besides the wait is always worth it.

Forge kind of screwed that up in the 1.8 port so no more 3d thaumometer unless forge decides to readd that..
If you look closely in a few of the spoilers Azanor has released, thaumometer is, in fact, back to it's old 3D model
