The Summerfields extension has been updated again. Porcelain clay, crucibles, and all the hammers now have textures. Still not a "full release", but it's more complete than it was, plus the barrels look better.
Also, there is a grand total of one (1) alternate texture, if you'd rather sieve your soil blocks through spiderwebs instead of a mesh.
I want to make a modpack with this mod, in this mod there will be Skyblock save and some mods to help you trough out skyblock. So it would be great if you could give me the a-ok to do this.
It's a couple of new features, lots of Buildcraft compatibility and lots of refactoring under the hood.
v1.13
-all major crafting recipes and barrel recipes can be disabled in the config file.
crucibles
-you can now automatically feed crucibles with hoppers or BC pipes.
-crucible speed reduced massively.
-crucible lava output reduced massively. (Cobblestone was creating more energy than coal when put through a crucible...)
sieves
-sieve speed greatly increased!
-rebalanced some item rarities. Mostly with soul sand.
-sieves now take time to process in creative mode too. (lots of videos were showing the sieve working instantly and I don't want to confuse players)
barrels
-fixed a bug that caused a delay between taking a product from a barrel and the barrel appearing empty
-mycelium does NOT make slime anymore
-you can add a bucket of milk to a barrel of water to make slime now
-mycelium will turn water into 'Witch Water' (a bowl of mushroom stew works too)
-the amount of nearby mycelium will effect how quickly water turns into Witch Water.
-adding sand to Witch Water will create soul sand.
-adding glowstone dust to lava will create end stone.
-netherrack production can be automated
-soul sand production can be automated
-end stone production can be automated
I haven't gotten around to updating the pictures yet, though I did update the sieve rewards to reflect the changes I made. I'll update the documentation and reply to everyone that has posted recently in the next day or so. Sorry I haven't been as engaged with the community this week, it's been a bit crazy IRL. =(
This is by far the most amazing mod ive seen yet it may be because my skyblock obsession or whatever but I love this mod and I can not stress strongly enough how awesome this mod is and the awesome part it I love it and im only just getting a skyblock map XD
The decreased output of lava from the crucible is great. The only problem is that now you need 32 cobblestone (seriously, I counted) and a bit of redstone dust for ONE block of netherrack. I think you really need to decrease the amount of lava needed for 1 netherrack, just increase the amount of netherrack you get.
I had another idea whilst playing today, what if you could partly automate sieving with pistons. Say, if the piston was place above it with one block of air in between, facing downwards, it would be cool if every time the piston pressed down , it would count as one click on the sieve. I'm really not sure how hard this would be, but I think it would be really cool.
Both of your posts have interesting ideas. I very well might implement some of them. The piston one might be difficult though because I'm not sure how much lag a piston generates while moving. Also, a piston's movement is 'free'. It doesn't require any energy input at all, so it once you build it, you can still just walk away and let it do it's job. Which is exactly what I don't want to do!
Pretty good! I've been waiting until I had more features in before I put a mod showcase in the main post, but this one would definitely be in high on the list.
There were a few opportunities for improvement, like you never explained how to find grass seeds and ancient spores. The sieves got passed over very quickly in general. I also couldn't hear your voice while you were breaking leaves with the crook, so I have no idea what you were saying there. Just a few small issues. Like I said, it was pretty solid.
Crowley, is it possible to configure what you can put in the barrels to make Dirt?
Nope. There might be in the future, but I want to finish core functionality before I work on that. If there is anything that you think should be compostable, I'll be happy to add it next time I look at that code.

Very good point. I really don't want to set a precedent for getting multiple blocks out of a barrel though. Maybe I should just make barrels only hold one bucket of fluid after all. It would pretty much ruin them as fluid storage, but really you have buildcraft tanks (and railcraft tanks) which do that job. The purpose of the barrels is as for fluid crafting and rain catching, and with a fluid capacit nerf it would do the first job better and the second job just the same as it used to. This way four cobblestone and a bit of redstone would make a piece of netherrack. I'll play with it, but let me know what you think.
After playing around with the barrels only using one bucket of fluid, I decided that they are MUCH easier to use and far more fun this way. Version 1.14 has the barrel capacity changes in place in addition to a few bug fixes.
EDIT: I updated the documentation in the first post too.

Well, I tend to play Skyblock alot, and I always get tons of Gunpowder, but TNT is useless to me, and Fireworks are not really that interesting. So maybe Gunpowder can work as a filler for something or be used to craft some other needed item?
I have created a wiki for this epic mod. The wiki is at http://ex-nihilo-minecraft.wikia.com/wiki/. If anybody would like to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated.
This is a really cool idea for a mod. I hope you stick with it,
2 things I would love to see added.
1. Support for other ores that are used by mods like copper, tin, lead, ect...
2. If your interested in taking it on, Cogs of the machine has been abandonded and it's version of mechanical power would be a wonderful addition IMO and useful for automating some of your machines.
However even if you don't like or use either of these please stick with it.
Does anyone have any maps designed to specifically to be done with this mod?

I read this suggestion last night and sat down with Google to try and come up with a novel use for gunpowder and really came up with nothing that I'm happy with. I thought about maybe making some kind of super-fertilizer with it, but that seems like taking the easy way out. Adding some kind of blunderbuss using stones for ammunition crossed my mind as well, but you can always install a dedicated gun mod that will probably handle the physics much better than I would be able to. I'll keep thinking on it, but you're right that it is a shame there aren't more uses for it.

Thanks for doing this! I'll be watching it closely. Hopefully I can just direct people here and stop doing my own documentation. =D
Really, I'm honored. There are mods which are much larger and more popular than mine that don't have their own wikis yet. O.o

1) Planned. Will show up eventually.
2) Has the author officially announced that it is abandoned? Either way, that is an extremely ambitious mod on it's own. Some of the features it has (steam power mostly) overlap with ideas I would like to use in the future, but holy cow it would be a ton of work to rewrite all of that.
3?) I plan on releasing a custom map at some point. I keep bouncing back and forth between releasing a crappy version where I modify the original map and waiting until I can write the map generation code into the mod.
There are two features that I feel are pretty much vital to a map like this. Infinite void and normal biome distribution. Noobcrew's original map has distributed biomes, but the void ends. You can use superflat settings to get infinite void, but then you are stuck on a single biome. It seems the only way to get a skyblock map that I'm happy with is to code it into the mod itself. =(
My map will be just a ball of dirt and a single tree. No sand islands. No nether islands. You'll have to work your way up from there. If someone wants to release an unofficial map like that and list a bunch of challenges for it, I wouldn't complain. At least that way I could stop worrying about it for a while. =)
Oh yeah, cogs of the machine... I loved that mod!! it does kind of seem to fit with the philosophy of this Ex Nihilo, maybe something to look at a later point in this mod's development?
It does have a lot of features that would look right at home here. I'll definitely look into it closer and see if I can 'borrow' any particularly good ideas. I was already planning on implementing a molten metal system, so that's going to happen sooner or later. The 'Pounder' is very similar to my hammer. The 'Foundry' is very similar to my crucible. It's interesting how we came to the same conclusions. =)

The overworld will generate an infinite void of the extreme hills biome (used super flat preset of all air, then angel blocks from extra utilities to create island), no mainland anywhere.
Nether should be void for a few thousand blocks, but no island will be there, so blocks must be placed to even step outside the portal
I added an end portal frame about 30 blocks under the dirt island, however I didn't screw with the end landscape, as I figure it would be pretty much impossible to beat the ender dragon with only a 5x5 obsidian portal.
All in all, this should function as a bare bones Ex Nihilo map until you add the world generation.

Nice! The little surprise in the dirt was a stroke of genius! I expect to see that kill a lot of players in the Let's Plays that will surely follow. =D
EDIT: This should get posted in the Maps section! If you do, you should include new custom challenges.
I'll get the ball rolling. I thought the challenges could be divided up into ages.
Age of Wood
Make a crook.
Make a floating forest.
Use a barrel to catch rain.
Find a silkworm.
Make a sieve.
Build a melon farm.
Build a pumpkin farm.
Build a wheat farm.
Set up a grassy area to spawn animals.
Make your first cobblestone.
Make a crucible.
Age of Stone
Make a cobblestone generator
Make an infinite water source
Make a bucket
Make a mycelium mushroom farm.
Create a mooshroom.
Power a crucible with netherrack
Build a brick house.
Build a house in the nether using only netherrack, nether brick, soul sand and nether quartz.
Thats about as far as I've gotten in the tech tree. =)
Also, there is a grand total of one (1) alternate texture, if you'd rather sieve your soil blocks through spiderwebs instead of a mesh.
640 Gravels (10 stacks) gives:
- 109 flints
- 86 coals
- 121 crushed iron
- 81 crushed gold
- 26 lapis
- 9 emerald
- 5 diamond
