This looks interesting! I was reading the Enviromine bit about air quality and thinking that actual gases would be cooler. Then I remembered GasCraft. Then I realized it's not up to date and I found your take on gases. Cool stuff!
I like how you made coal mining and obsidian farming dangerous. The invisible Black Damp is pretty cool as well.
I would be interesting to play the role a coal mine penitent, crawling on the floor holding up a torch or using a pet owl to detect (read: blow up) gas pockets without dying yourself . This novel is a pretty powerful inspiration.
EDIT: Oh god, the sound of the electric gas in the nether is annoying and loud. I can see the idea, but the sound needs a fix.
Also, have you thought about making one of the nether gases act like upward-flowing lava? I think the visual effect would be pretty cool... maybe the gas can emit light if it's not too much in addition to the lava light.
EDIT 2: Bug report: gases don't seem to reliably blow up at all. I've seen them blow up occasionally, but I can place tons of torches in the middle of green and red gas and nothing happens. Also, isn't red gas supposed to blow up in contact with lava? I just saw a large quantity of it flow over lava without blowing up. (All this using 1.5.2 for Minecraft 1.7.2)

I quite like the upwards flowing lava idea, although that means that it will have to be infinite (like regular lava currently is).
The red gas blows up on contact with fire, torches and water, but not lava (it definitely should though).
The electric gas sound should be made softer and in mono (instead of stereo, since stereo sounds do not work with Minecraft's directional sound system, making the gas noises always seem to come from the same place ).
I think i'll add this mod to my singleplayer. XD.. Smoke from fire, would be really nice addition for my Forge, factories, etc no more having to use cobwebs.
Just saw your position on modpacks... ugh, that's kind of disheartening. Modpacks mean that other talented people have worked out most of the kinks and bugs of interoperability, so if I wanna play with a lot of mods, I can download the pack, remove the stuff I don't want and add a couple mods. It also means that I can share the result of my mod-combining efforts to save other people the trouble. I think it's better for the community overall to let people play with your stuff and modify it as much as possible (even though some of them might be jerks), so here's hoping you move to a more liberal stance eventually.
I noticed that, at this time, there's no compatibility between mods like Enviromine and Glenn's Gases. They work well together without crashes, but Glenn's Gases will kill you while Enviromine merrily reports that your air is perfectly breathable.
Any plans to bridge the gap and plummet Air Quality in mods that use that stat?
also i sent you a privet messange, hopefully you going to read it
1. Crash logs are a lot more useful than obscure little bits of what it might be. We don't know your mod list, circumstances, anything.
2. No duh, it's a Framework, as in, it lays out the essentials of what the mod needs
3. If it is as obscure as this one is, I don't think he will read it
Also *private and *message and missing a you between when and go.
I think Brizzle has been trying to get hold of you on my behalf through PM to ask if you would mind if I include Glenns Gases in a mod pack.
But he hasn't gotten a response yet. I so I thought I would get off my lazy butt and ask you myself
I would like to include Glenns Gases in the Raxpack 2 modpack that I am putting together. The permissions I am asking for are that the mod be included in the pack which would be hosted (hopefully) on the Feed the Beast service. There will be no money made from your mod via it being in the pack and you will be properly credited. Also no credit for Glenns gases will be taken by either myself nor Feed the Beast.
If you would like to discuss this with me beyond giving or denying permission feel free to PM for details or you can find me in my IRC #SteamNSteel on Espernet
really a shame this mod's piping system and gas + torch interactions are so broken beyond belief.
that's nitro gas happily sitting on top of a torch, no explosions, i've also had identical results with 4 gases on each horizontal side of a torch, so BUG REPORT!
also the gas furnace in the same picture refuses to accept any of the nitro from the tank, i know for a fact there's nitro in the pipe on the furnace too by breaking it and observing nitro gas spilling out.
because of that i can only guess that there should be gas being accepted by the furnace but isn't for some reason, i couldn't tell you to be honest though because of the lack of useful documentation on the piping system and how to make it do anything at all, some youtube videos from years ago lead me to believe i might need a pump on top of a collector to harvest gas, but frankly a collector alone connected to a gas tank seems to be the only way it does anything.
as i said above it's impossible to tell though without proper documentation and examples, i've also found a complete and total lack of youtube tutorials as well, saw the two linked in the OP, neither are helpful, they only show the gases, explain none of the piping (if they even mention it) and none of the machines/blocks.
furthermore the piping documentation that is on your wiki makes no sense at all either, it only adds to the confusion, are you saying i have to design so air moves through the pipes along with the gases? the whole talk about in two block increments made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
If you actually looked at the documentation, you'd see that the Nitrous gas is not combustable. Torches won't react to it, and neither will the Gas Furnace. Judging by that oversight, I'm not surprised that the piping system "makes no sense" to you It could be improved in some ways I admit, but it's not that complicated.
EDIT: If you did read it, I can understand the confusion. Glenn states that "chemically speaking, this is a mix of nitrogen dinoxide and dinitrogen tetroxide". Nitrogen dinoxide seems to be a typo (such a thing doesn't exist) and I assume that's Nitrogen Dioxide, which Dinitrogen Tetroxide is commonly poluted with so that makes sense. Both of these are not combustable or even flammable.
In short, this is not "Nitrous Oxide" like you put in an import performance car but a mix of two of the many other Nitrogen Oxides - non combustable ones in particular. As such, I suggest to you Glenn - perhaps it's better to rename Nitrous Gas to Nitrogen Gas? Many would associate Nitrous Gas = NOS = "turbo boost for street racing cars so must be combustable".
Wait, I just realised that Nitrogen could be just as easily confusing/misleading... maybe "Dirty Nitrogen" or something? Hmm... or just leave it as it is, can't keep everyone happy I guess.
Hey Glenn, love the mod and the concept. I am wondering if there is any progress on the API? You say its "currently not in a state where it can be used by other mods" on the page. Is this a trivial thing that I could help with (I've not looked at source yet) or do you need to do some significant changes yourself?
I'm interested in making a mod to provide more worldgen for gas veins/springs, and machines to burn gases into UE power or RI kinetic energy, as well as make machines emit poisonous exhaust that has to be vented. Horray for realism!
i'd actually associated it with nitro-glycerin, for what it's worth.
thinking more on the pipe system, the only setup i can see working is a giant circle instead of just piping directly to and from?

Heh fair enough then.
I've made some suggestions about using this framework with other mods, a lot of authors don't see the point of using this instead of Forge Fluids. I personally like this mod/framework, but many seem to not care much about it for some reason - despite being more capable than fluids.
thing is, every flammable or explosive gas this mod adds does that, it's not just nitro gas, i just came up from a mining trip, natural gas on the ceiling, torch on the floor, no flames at all, only 2 blocks high corridor too, also saw multiple times coal gas envelope and then go right past a torch as well.
i'm starting to suspect that what it is is only "full" blocks of gas will react at all and the ones that are less than a block's worth only exist visually or something.

I really like how this mod makes early game harder for me and my friends, but after a while the gas just seems useless with a whole lot of tech mods. I think this+the piping system would work really well if you added an engine that uses the gas to build up pressure for pneumaticraft (only appears if you have the mod installed) and if it included the mechanic of longer running = more output.
Just an idea, but it would add a lot of relevance to this mod late game.

Femtocraft! A new awesome tech mod with a focus on balanced exchange.
If you are a mod/modpack developer and need a banner/logo, contact me and I might be able to make you one (yes for free if I'm inspired). You can see my work here.
So ive been running this mod for a week or so now, but havent been having very good luck with the piping system. I set up a collector, run about 4-5 links of pipe to a tank. have the collector in the gas (this case red) and I see what looks like the gas building up around the collector, then dissapeering, but its not going into the tank. I break the pipe and nothing comes out. Am I missing somthing?
Pipe out the top of the collector and into the bottom of the tank. I got this to work in a test world along with the furnace long enough to cook 2 pieces of meat and thats about it.

I really like the idea of this mod. I installed it and played 2 days, but the piping system is buggy or/and the available documentation and information not helpful. Somehow pumps explode because... well just because. Sometimes they pump, sometimes they don't.
I hope the piping system in this mod gets better, but for now I will play without it. I really hope to be able to use it in the future with less bugs.
