A simple mod to remove the inconsistent behavior associated with pistons and dispensers
This mod allows the levers in the following image to independently control the pistons, dispensers, and droppers directly next to them:
Due to the fact that this mod changes the behavior of pistons, some or all of your devices that make use of pistons may break. Uninstalling the mod may "un-break" mechanisms that don't work with this mod, but if blocks have been pushed out of place while this mod was installed they may need to be manually re-placed.
Because of this, you may wish to back up your world(s) before using this mod.
Redstone tutorials that use Vanilla pistons may not work with this mod installed.
Because Grum, a Mojang employee / minecraft coder, said "because users love bugs ... and they want us to keep them. So we'll just do so."
The bug report was closed as "works as intended", which lead to comments that "won't remove" or "promoted to official feature" would be better resolutions.
Actually, this mod combined with an explicit redstone bud block would probably be the best solution, except that it makes your world / your redstone builds unsharable with vanilla / other users. For personal stuff, I like this mod. For "export builds to other users via youtube or downloads", it breaks compatibility. Which do you choose?
Can't run 161 yet -- too many core mods in my world not ready for it.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
When you update to 1.7.10, may I suggest transferring the new behavior to a new pair of blocks (that is, sticky/non-sticky?) That will let people add your mod without breaking existing builds, and allow people to use both behaviors, even in the same build.

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
