Okay I'm gonna bite: Why are people abandoning IC2? Far as I can tell no other mod has by default or by addon greater sources of continuous or renewable power in tiny spaces. Also its massfab is pretty capable of replicating most basic resources for getting other mods up and running, especially once it has the huge amounts of power that IC2 can provide.
Several reasons. The first is lack of support and updating/growth, and the second is that GregoriousT has been placed on the Team.
Many people were concerned that if he were on the Team, he would immediately start rebalancing things to suit his 'vision' (remember that gregtech actually messed with the outputs in VANILLA recipes) And so far, the dire predictions have proven true.
Also he has a proven history of creating 'hostile' or 'crash code' in order to 'fight' with other mod authors via the unsuspecting player base. Mod authors messing with each other's work is nothing new, but forcing players to pay the price for your feud is considered, by many, to be highly unethical.
As a result, many, many people are moving away from IC2 for good. Who wants to install a mod that may or may not contain code that will crash your game simply because the author has a wild hare up his butt about some other mod author? Or that may alter vanilla recipes or freely alter other mods?

it's also that the functionality of IC2 has been duplicated by many other mods and IC2 didn't have anything "new" for the longest time. Now that they have "new" content, it's really just a lot of what was in Gregtech anyway. Making things more expensive and adding more steps isn't really content, it just makes it more of a grind and a chore.
Changing the balance of a mod that you're writing an add on for is one thing, changing vanilla and multiple other mods in a way that alters the balance of those mods crosses a line. We're really at a crossroads with 1.6/1.7 as a lot of the "older" mods such as BC3 and IC2 are losing support (or Redpower, once considered a MUST) and new mods are emerging.that have the same functionality, but do so in a fun and not frustrating way, such as TE.
I'm looking forward to TE3, the power system of BC is horrible now and IC2 is a second job. TE has always felt really polished and balanced and I for one patiently await the arrival of TE3 on 1.6.x.

All modifications by gregtech should have been optional and not default. I need Gregtech because it adds much more content and progression. I had to disable almost all vanilla additions tho(took me a long time to find them all. And got frustrated by the fact that i had to find out first to fix it -.-)
To me IC2 and its addons were purely about unlimited and huge amounts of power. I can't really beat 512EU/t during the day power in a single block anywhrere else, not in the least because I've yet to see a mod where I can discharge my powersuit into a collection area. So far only IC2 lets ne do that, which is a shame because putting an MFSU's worth of power in a battery really was comveient. I'll get over it as 1.6 and 1.7 mods start catching on...

Oh, WONDERFUL. I thought I was seeing things in IC2 in the past few days since I got 1.6.4 up and started using the experimental IC2 builds, that looked Greg-inspired. Now I know why.

Greg is bug fixing in the IC2-Exp Branch, maybe ideas are placed by him for Thunder and Player, but what I don't get is mDiyo just have to make it worse by making MC crash with GregTech just because Greg had OreDictionary support and was printing a few lines in the console about it, now 4.04m build of GregTech eliminates Tinkers Construct in the OreDictionary support...
do any of your mods make vanilla minecraft ores (diamonds, redstone, iron, gold, emeralds) spawn higher? ive been looking for a mod to do that and if so can youj please inform me how to make them spawn higher and what mods to use
IC2 for the longest time had a problem with progression. In the old IC2 the machines were either very low-tier i.e. extractor, macerator etc or very high-tier ie mass fabricator, teleporter and had very little in between. I feel IC2-experimental fixes this and adds a little better progression throughout the mod. So I was happy with the changes made so far to IC2.
Until recently...
Now it seems the nerfhammer has struck again this time in terms of diamond costs. MFE cost has increased to 16 diamonds, MFSU costs 40 and glass fibre cable costs 1 diamond for each little cable. THAT is a real problem however.
Its worth pointing out, however, that that the storage capacities of both the mfe and mfsu have been increased. They now have and CESU (or something along those lines) which replaces the old function of the mfe.
Also the best way to store energy is as fuel, within a tank or chest. This way its not limited to a specific energy unit.
I realize that , but like I said the mfsu is far greater then it was before and it's certainly not something designed for mass production. Furthermore if we're honest with ourselves is 40 diamonds really unreasonable for final tier storage in modded minecraft. This isnt vanilla. 40 Diamonds can easily be reached.
Yes. Yes it is. You're telling me someone's going to have 40 diamonds without a massfab or 40 STACKS of coal to make up for the fact they don't have 40 diamonds? What does he expect everyone's playing with, EE3?

I tend to have far more than 40. I don't even use massfabs. I quarry from the moment I can afford one till doomsday though.

Absolutely. It seems you've forgot how to play MINEcraft.
Anyway, lets start cutting through the lies before they grow any further.
So the recipes aren't as diamond expensive as the person saying which is great.
However, I didn't forget how to play anything. I am not crapshooting to find 40 diamonds which can take me DAYS. And I'm talking about spending 5-6 hours a day mining.

Fair enough however remember this is the top tier storage unit capable of outputing 2048EU/tick with an internal storage of 40m EU. This thing is a beast, completely over shadowing its former self. It certainly needs some form of cost placing it near end game. Since most of us run quarries which pull in massive amounts of ores, it really wouldn't be that unreasonable. Even without build-craft other popular mods, like tinkers construct, add tools capable of mining 3x3s. Even ic2 itself has several advanced mining tools.
Actually, I really like the whole mod, but those haven't been mentioned.

Give me a pump and a floodgate and I'll never touch Buildcraft again.

I'm working on RF quarry, pump, and filler. They won't be exactly like BC ones, but the same idea.
Absolutely. It seems you've forgot how to play MINEcraft.

Hardly 40 diamonds

Ooh, RF must mean for TE then.
