What was the consensus on JAS and spawning Wither Skeletons, etc in Nether Strongholds? I haven't been able to find anything that normally spawns inside a Nether Stronghold(except Blaze spawners), and the strongholds themselves have been spawning a little wacky. How does JAS identify a nether stronghold? Is it possible the structure just isn't registering as one if Biomes O Plenty or some other program has changed how strongholds are generated? Or is this a side effect of the Twilight Forest/JAS compatibility mod(I'm not sure exactly what that mod even does, but I know structures are a huge part of how Twilight Forest spawns critters.
Is there a command to purge old entries from mods no longer used? I want to trim all the bloated cfg entries.
I dont think there is. Entries don't always regenerate if you delete them, I've noticed, even if the mod is still there. Your best bet, short of renaming the default directory and letting JAS create a new one, is to change the settings in SaveGSON temporarily. Sometimes changing SortByBiome and UniversalList will remove missing entries/add new ones for new mobs without losing your old settings.

Unfortunately not, no. I just grab a decent text editor like Notepad++, then if it's old entity entries you want to get rid of, set sort by biome to "false" in your saveConfigGson.cfg and delete the entries you don't want. Basically the same for unwanted biomes.. There's a possibility I've wondered about but never tried.. if you leave sort by biome to true, then make a new biomeGroups.cfg (back up the old one) and dump every biome you want to keep into a single "ALL" group. Refresh the configs, delete every group *except* for that group, then refresh your configs again. Then put your biomeGroups.cfg back the way you want them, refresh configs again and then go in and manually delete the "All" group. Would that work to keep your spawn settings? I'm thinking it'd probably just create "new" biome groups with default settings - much as if you'd just generated configs from scratch. Yeah, forget that. It'd definitely treat them as new biome groups and create default spawn frequencies.
Say, you use Mo Creatures in your config, don't you? Is it my imagination or do BigCats multiply like crazy? I'm starting to wonder about the despawning of certain mobs and whether it throws biomes out of balance when mobs don't despawn naturally(it made a huge difference with Lycanites' mobs dominating). Also, and this is vaguely off topic for spawning behavior, it seems like the BigCats don't behave properly. I thought certain ones would attack if I get too close, like boars do.

Depends on them being hungry doesn't it? Same with bears. You can pretty much guarantee they'll attack when you *really* need them not to. Ah, except for lionesses and tigers (just read it on the wiki).
My cats are at good, stable levels but I've set their spawn weights really low. It can be hard to balance, especially because they're predators. They'll attack and kill other mobs which constantly frees up more room in the caps. If your cats have their frequency set too high, they'll clean out the other creatures and gradually hog the cap. I deal with that in 2 ways; set their passive pack max and weights really low (they can still spawn with the chunk in a pack of 4) and/or spawn them with other hunters. Lycanite's mobs do a damn good job of that. Almost too good lol.
They hunt and kill other mobs? The Concapedes must have been really out of control in my jungle, then. It does, however, explain how so many concapedes were getting split and multiplying.

lol that used to drive me nuts. I'm glad Lycanite's fixed that in his latest update but I've still got my max concapede segment size limit set to 6.

Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue when trying to spawn a mob using its spawn egg yet the entity is instantly removed? Im having this issue with the piranhas from the mod called Shipwrecks! and the the boss mob Anu from Fossils and Archeology Revival.
Okay, big question that I don't remember seeing in the wiki at all, and possibly worth considering for a future JAS feature if it's not already built in--setting the despawning behavior of creatures and monsters spawned by JAS. I noticed with Lycanites' Mobs that their despawning behavior is tied directly to Lycanites' config files, but other mobs(Mo Creatures, cough cough) either don't despawn at all or require their own custom Spawner to despawn properly.
Is there a solution already in JAS and I just haven't figured out the settings properly?
Okay, how do you use one BiomeGroup as the component in another BIomeGroup? The inconsistent documentation on the Wiki (one spot says "B|" prefix, another spot says "G|" prefix), is not working for me. Not either case. Sadly, neither of the example config downloads have BiomeGroups composed of other BiomeGroups, so that didn't help.

Use /jas canspawnhere
BoP may tweak it. I likely won't have time to test until the weekend of next.

JAS seems to deactivate the Mob Spawn overlay from Not Enough Items. I haven't been able to get a response from NEI yet, but do you think this is a bug/conflict between the two? Does JAS remove spawn data that NEI uses for the overlay? I would have bet that NEI was just a light level thing, but the fact that JAS kills the overlay makes me think that it really is tied to spawning rules.

Thoughts?
Because JAS is turning off vanilla spawning, NEI thinks nothing can spawn
I've been tracing down a null pointer exception that I've been seeing and have narrowed it down to it only happening when I use JaS (0.14.13) in conjunction with Thaumcraft (1.7.10-4.2.1.4) and Abyssalcraft (1.7.10-1.7.8.1). If I have any combination of only two of these mods, no errors, but when I have all three (and I tested it on an install using only these three mods, nothing else) I see the below exception every single time. I'm running 1.7.10 with Forge 1236. Any ideas why when adding JaS this happens?

I had the same issue and had to uninstall one of the two. If you look further up the thread, it's an issue with the Pech and its enchantment using the same ID as something in Abyssalcraft.
its not technically JAS so much as the fact that JAS detects the conflict sooner rather than later(if I remember what CrudeDragos said correctly).

Thanks, I looked through the forum but must have missed your post. I've posted details of this also to the Abyssalcraft list on Curse. Maybe the mod dev can figure out what is causing the conflict.

How do i make so some mobs like MoC dont spawn and others like the the dolphins spawn?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Okay, this is a thing I've been noticing as I've delved deeper into custom configurations... changing a mob that normally spawns as a creature to a monster results in insane overpopulation. Take the Joust and Joust Alpha from Lycanites' Mobs: the Alpha is aggressive, so I changed it to a monster in the hopes of spawning less of them, and somehow all I spawn now is Alphas, with nary a regular Joust to be found. Likewise, I can override a creature's spawn conditions using JAS, but if I don't, strange things will happen. Slimes will spawn uncontrollably during the day in a Flat world, filling up the monster cap until they despawn.
So, there's a learning curve when adding creatures that have native spawning behavior. Skeletons don't spawn in light unless you make them do so, and even a spawn weight of 1 is going to spawn out of control if there's nothing else to compete with it during the day(when monsters typically don't spawn due to high light levels).
These are mostly just observations, no real question involved... but if anyone wants to suggest some spawning tags to keep the teleporting Wizrobes of Zelda Sword Skills from slaughtering me in my house regularly, I wouldn't turn down the suggestion.
I'm thinking it'd probably just create "new" biome groups with default settings - much as if you'd just generated configs from scratch.Yeah, forget that. It'd definitely treat them as new biome groups and create default spawn frequencies.Depends on them being hungry doesn't it?
Almost too good lol.
lol that used to drive me nuts. I'm glad Lycanite's fixed that in his latest update but I've still got my max concapede segment size limit set to 6.
Is there a solution already in JAS and I just haven't figured out the settings properly?
It is B| followed by the biomegroup name.
Use /jas canspawnhere
BoP may tweak it. I likely won't have time to test until the weekend of next.
Not yet.
Use /jas candespawnhere
Do those places not have water? If you're curious if an entity can spawn at a location try /jas canspawnhere
Despawn tags. See the wiki page for tags.
Thoughts?
Because JAS is turning off vanilla spawning, NEI thinks nothing can spawn

its not technically JAS so much as the fact that JAS detects the conflict sooner rather than later(if I remember what CrudeDragos said correctly).
