Hm. Shooter's idea could be really good for this mod. Somehow make it so you can choose from an ID or Block/Item name. If it were a GUI element, you could have it set up similar to the Creative mode GUI, where it's all sectioned. Clicking on an item that you wish to buy would put a ghost image of that into the "buying" slot. That would be optional for those who do not already have what it is they're trying to acquire. If the seller already has one of those items that they're looking to buy, they can just drag it up to the buying slot and drop. However, instead of dropping it, it'll instead just read the ID and create a ghost image of it so you don't have to leave it in there.
This would only work on the buying side of the GUI. Selling would still require you to have whatever it is you're selling for obvious reasons. After determine what you're buying, you would be able to type in how many it is you're wanting.
Also, please excuse my ignorance if I'm suggesting something actually quite difficult to do. I have very little knowledge of java and can't properly gauge the difficulty of any suggestions I make/support.
Anyways, I really love this mod. Thank you for your hard work in creating it.
Also, I've added texture support to this mod for the Derivation texture pack. If you'd like, it'd be cool if you could make a spoiler in the OP for the texture support.
I'll also be adding texture support (probably) to other mods as well. If you'd like to keep an eye out for new support or for changes to already existing support, you can check out a page I quickly threw together on Dropbox Link Removed.
PSD files are included for anyone wanting to make changes to the images, whether it be improvements or preference.
Lastly, unless you make any major changes, you won't need to update any of these links. I can update the files the links lead to.
ZeroLevels, I hope you don't mind if I just link to the page.
And, yeah, I'm thinking about adding a tier 2 version of the block that lets you buy anything without even having it. I think I would even be able to use the creative interface built into game for this purpose, without having to code the block chooser from scratch.

Nope, I don't mind at all. That looks fine.
Also, sounds cool. If it gets its own Block/GUI separate from the Tier 1, I'll see what I can do about adding support for those as well. I'm better with the GUIs than I am with the blocks, but I feel pretty good about what I did so far. I'll be checking back now and again to see what's new or to inform you of anything changes I may have made to the texture support.
Could you make a creative only block that has infinity of the selling item and doesn't store the buying item?
For NPC Shops for map makers.
I find this more appealing for a zombie survival map than a huge redstone trade system or having a custom villager trade.
I've come across a bug. When you try and sell items that aren't Vanille, it crashes the server and you have to use MCEdit to remove the vender and the item it spits out. I'm not sure if this is with all items, but when a friend of mine was testing it out he put in a Iron Long Sword from Tinker's Construct Mod and I clicked on it to recieve the item it crashed.
I'm not going to try this with other modded items because it's a hassel to have to MCEdit my world constantly to test mods for it. So for now we're only vending vanille items.

Also, an infinite add on to it would be awesome.
Another cool addon to your mod would be your own currency, like minecraft dollars. Then that could even open up other aspects of this mod like house safes. I could see this going quite far.
Advanced vending block. You craft it the same way as the normal one, only using redstone repeater instead of redstone:
It has different GUI: you can't put any items into buying slot, instead you press a button and pick the block you want to sell:
All new stuff is contained in a creative tab:
A wrench. Creative-only item without crafting recipe. Right click on a vending block to edit its settings:
Also config file.
PancakePuncher: please post the stack trace. I tested this with quite a few items, modded and vanilla, and it works well. I also added some safeguards in new version, maybe that would help.
DraxisWuf: In 1.0.4, it doesn't render properly, just displays the bank sheet for schematics, but the sold item will be the one you put inside. Although schematics don't render when you drop them on the ground, neither. I think this would probably be best addressed by the author of the schematics mod.
So does that latest version use a ghost placeholder rather than the actual item for vending?
I know this is a lot to ask, but as we know, a lot of mods will take a very long time to update to 1.5 (RP2)... would you consider releasing a version for 1.4.7 alongside 1.5.1 if you have time? I love this mod but won't be making a switch on my server until all 104 mods are updated.
BloodyChucklz: nooooooooo... I neither use bukkit anymore nor have any idea how clientside mods work with it.
Source code is available, the best you can do is bug someone to port it for you.
I really don't understand why this topic hasn't become a hit already. This mod is amazing, and it is SO useful. I hope you get the credit you deserve. Looking forward to future releases.
Request990: 1.0.5 has config and does support schematics. Schematics render as just empty items because they do render as empty items when you throw them on the ground.

I found something notable with your plugin, and Rei's Minimap as well as Ars Magica. Whenever you mouse over to view the vending block trade, the minimap & ars magica mana bar flashes over and over.

Currently if you try and sell either, it gives you a blank schematic rather than one with a sculpture or building.
I know it's possible though, since I can set up traders with Custom NPCs which can sell copies of schematics from both mods.

CyanideX: later, maybe, if I have time.
Nice mod, anyhow, I can't believe how unpopular this is, it deserves alot more recognition.
