Thank you, guys. You're awesome. Thank you for downloading this mod; thank you for sharing it with your friends and/or followers. As of Minecraft 1.7.2, this mod is now part of the game.
There are some changes made to it; some for the better and some for the worse:
There is no longer a "map-like" border on the map's edges.
The size of the Item Frame is also changed when a map is placed on it, so it looks like it has a nice wooden frame.
Maps on the wall no longer show the white dots on the corners. Those dots are still visible when you're holding it, but they will be gone if you place the map on the wall ;D
The only icon on the map is the green arrow indicating an Item Frame with a map on it.
***Maps are their own light source. So, even in the dread of the night, they will be well lit even if you don't have a light source near them. ***
***Maps glow, but they don't act as a light source. So don't try to use them as protection for your house!***
***You can look at the borders now and the maps won't disappear as they did before.***
***In a previous snapshot. In Minecraft 1.7.2 this is not the case. I expect it to be fixed in a future release.
I would like to thank my mom for providing the internet connection; my friends for acting as beta testers; every youtuber that reviewed the mod; my math teacher for believing in me; and last but not least... I would like to thank every single soul that downloaded this mod. You guys rock ;D
Entra a ".minecraft\versions\"

Ever wanted to be a cartographer, but your mom didn't let you? Now you can! 'Cartographer' lets you place your maps on Item Frames as you'd usually do, but with the slight difference that they will be as big as a block instead of small as the Item Frame.
This mod started with my need to find the Stronghold with just one Ender Eye by triangulating the position with a large map on the wall and some arrows on the ground pointing at the Stronghold's direction, because in my friend's server we don't see many Endermen (for whatever reason). I searched a lot for a mod or a way to accomplish this, but i had no luck potion in my inventory, so i was lost.
I found some mods for this, but one hasn't been updated since 1.1 (Hangable Maps) and the other since 1.4.7 (BetterMaps) (They also modify Minecraft's behaviour and i like my Minecraft Vanilla flavored, so there's that), so i decided to make my own with my null knowledge of Java. http://www.mediafire...7ebo229gre7g4s7
5~10 hours later (told you i'm a noob) i came up with my first mod and i couldn't be any happier
In the first line, there's something like "id": "1.6.1" (It'll change depending on the version).
— Change it to the same as the name given to the folder and files: "id": "1.6.1 - Mods".
Extract the content of the mod's ZIP file to the "1.6.1 Mods.JAR" file.
Delete META-INF folder.
Open the launcher.
Create a new profile.
Name it to whatever you like.
Select "1.6.1 Mods" where you select the version.
Save the profile.
In the profile list, select the one that says "1.6.1 Mods".
Note: Instead of "1.6.1 Mods", you can use whatever you like.
Installation for Minecraft 1.6.2 with Forge

- Go in subfolder "Forge9.10.X.Y"
- Copy the files from the Cartographer ZIP file to "Forge9.10.X.Y.jar" as usual (you can use the 1.5.2 instructions for this) and remove the META-INF folder from "Forge9.10.X.Y.jar".
- Start the official launcher
- Select profile "Forge"
- Click "Edit Profile"
- Select the checkbox "JVM Arguments" and in the field next to it add
"-Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true" (Leave a space after anything that was already there)

Better example of what this mod does:
I was using Glowstone before figuring out the method below
Tips on how to get the whole map well lit
Given that the center of the map will not be near any light source (unless you put it right in front of it), it will get really dark at night or beneath a ceiling.
To avoid this, you can use Redstone Lamps/Jack'O Lanterns/Glowstone to put them behind the Item Frame. Every Redstone Lamp/Jack'O Lantern/Glowstone will illuminate perfectly the 4 blocks around it in a cross (+) shape. For them to illuminate the whole map, you'll have to place them in this pattern:
Without the mod, the maps would look like this:
With the mod, they look nicer:
Unless you put a torch or something in front of every map, you will have to deal with this crappy lighting at night (it looks even worse if you turn off Smooth Lighting like i do):
No worries, turn on the light and it will be beautiful again:
Proof that rendering bugs are not my fault
Map not rendering
imaboy321 made a of the mod and he got a bug where one map would not render at all.
Without the mod installed, i got the same bug (Map in the middle).
It is not my fault! you just gotta exit the world and enter again for it to render correctly.
Slow rendering issue
If the chunk the maps are in got unloaded, or if you exit the world, the next time you look at the maps they will load kind of slow.
This used to happen without the mod.
And also with the mod.
Give it some time, it will load. Some maps may load slower, but in the meantime you can go mine some diamond.
P.S.: These screenshots were taken in an SMP server, so you can be sure it will work on SSP and SMP.
P.P.S.: Don't blame me for Mojang's lighting and map rendering issues.
so, u just re scaled the map rendering in item frames....amazing what a half dozen lines of code can do
u should do more mods like this (small simple mods that have a huge impact on things)
so, u just re scaled the map rendering in item frames....amazing what a half dozen lines of code can do

Not even half a dozen, bro. They're just 2 lines of code
Dude, that's Mojang's fault. Just exit the world (not the game), enter again and they will render again. You may experience slow rendering (some nasty lines from down to top), but you just gotta give it some time.
That is an awesome Mod. I hope you get some more attention.
I have her a pic from Vanilla with 180° rotated Maps:
I think there is an render issue, some sometimes on the borders of the screen parts of maps are missing.
That's because the game detects that you are no longer seeing the Item Frame with the map inside, so it disables that single map because tecnically you're not seein it.
No problem. There has been (and still is) some confusion regarding this. Basically, there was Modloader, ModloaderMP and Forge. Forge went independant of the other two and added it's own versions which became known as FML or Forge Modloader.
BTW: Hangable Maps has been updated to an unofficial 1.5.1 so you might want to update your OP. Or not.
The thing I noticed about yours is that you have a wooden border around your map where HM doesn't. That's a nice touch.
Now you've added Forge compatibility I will be using this one when I finally update to 1.5.x. Whenever that may be.
I wasn't aware of that . Updating right away .
If you want, i can try to make a version for the MC version you're using. It isn't very hard actually.
