Let me define it again. I say it is the mod because the mod fails to be intuitive. It is not intuitive because even for new people its not obvious that it would work in that manner this is because you have stencils and then casts which are both similar, and by the time you get to casts you expect it to work the same as stencils but with metal. The point being that they share enough similarities that the differences cause confusion.
Some of us are smart enough to think through that it works this way or simply to go read real quick but for most it seems to be a issue as it keeps popping up.
My main reasoning though for it being the mods issue is that enough people have the same issue that you cannot simply say its the persons fault.
While you have a point, most of those who are having this problem are having one because they are used to the old method and the books don't seem to mention anything different regarding casting. All that aside, it does actually make perfect sense that you would need to have a part made in order to form the cast around it... Rather than taking it to some wooden table, snapping fingers and magically having a correctly shaped hole in that mold. It's actually more intuitive this way (with the exception of the ingot mold). The only thing that I think feels like it needs to be fixed is the ability to melt back down castings so that if you have the wrong part on a casting table, or nothing, you aren't wasting materials. We can leave the part of having to place a single clay brick on the casting table in order to make ingots for another time.
On topic a bit more I have twice now with both dev 7 and 10 had a issue with a smeltery made of seared glass simply stop allowing metal to be poured. Its a completely valid structure and the issue seems to only pop up on smp. It has 2 drains next to each other as well.
It will work fine and make a ton of metal blocks and then randomly simply stop pouring after pouring half a block and requires the controller being broken and put back, costing all the liquid inside to be gone.
This might be simply related to some weirdness in how you are constructing the smeltery or how much seared glass you are using compared to standard bricks. Or it could be that you have your alloy mixtures wrong (easy to do when using oreberries/nuggets). I've never had this issue.
Ok i am getting a Migrane. Finally got on this, I destroyed the block on my Smeltery to wipe away that odd ball amount of Aluminum. i replaced the block and tossed 6 Alum Gravel and 2 Copper Gravel in the smeltery. i made tool parts from stone and placed them in the casting tables. i hit the faucet and nothing. i removed the tool parts and hit the faucet and it successfully created blank casts, i tried using wood tool parts and still nothing. do i need a chisel? What can i do with these 3 blank casts? i was only making basic tool parts and trying to make an ingot cast as well... its starting to really agrivate me. I love this mod, i love the smeltery but casts are really ing me off.
on a side note, NEI (maybe NEI Plugins is doing it) allows you to see the recipes for the smeltery, shows how to make a blank cast and then the different metals that you can make in the smeltery and use in casts. does not show how the make the Part casts.

I have not been able to replicate this problem. I do not know what is causing it. I am using the latest dev version, and have had no problems with my smeltery pouring liquid metal where I want it to go.
Someone has mentioned to me once that using too much seared glass over normal seared bricks was causing an issue. I have not confirmed this.
I do not know what to tell you, I'm sorry.
Hey, mDiyo two things:
1) Will you be adding new types of saddles and horse armors as of the 1.6 update?
2) Why don't you have a separate thread or page for bugs/problems and questions?
2) Why would we need 3 threads for one mod? We've already got a suggestions thread. This is where we handle bugs and problems and discuss Tinkers Construct.
If it isn't needed then please explain why when I remove denpipes I get the second error I listed 6 posts ago.
i have no idea why, but you obviously have a bug that somehow is created and fixed by Denpipes. Most of us don't run it, it's NOT required.
(ignore that, it's just me trying to act tech smart)
but seriously, Denpipes is not required.
I'm trying to make a Hammer Cast but when I insert a Blank Cast into a Stencil Table, it only gives me the option for only the Ingot Cast, no other cast is available when I try to hit Previous or Next Cast.

Read the OP, the answer is in bold letters, and people is starting to get irritated because of other people asking the same question over and over again without reading the op.
1. Does a smelter need to be made strictly with seared bricks, or is it possible to use the variants? (chiseled, cracked, etc.)
2. How does one go about making a jewel cast? I wanted to make use of the new molten emerald, but I can't get it to pour out. I looked through the items and assumed I'd obviously need a jewel cast, but there's no stencil for it, and I can't smelt gold/brass around an emerald.
3. I can't seem to make the ingot casts on the stencil table anymore. Was this changed in dev 10, and how do I go about making them if so?

1. Unsure.
2. You can't, and it is going to be removed in a future update by what mDiyo said.
3. You can't make them like that anymore. Look at the OP or in the f***ing book you got or even read this this page or the last one!!!
Starting a new world... And incidentally it turns out that the wood from Natura trees doesn't seem to be valid for any of the tools. Makes for an uncomfortable start when you're in a plains biome surrounded by deserts on a large biome world. All this wood from redwoods that you can't actually use. Just thought I'd mention it.

1)Seared glass works in place of seared brick, so I would presume the different variants of brick would work as well. A nice way to test this is to use just one variant brick in your smeltery to see if it lights up.
2)Will be/already is removed.
3)Hmm. You're right. It appears that I can't make an ingot cast in the stencil table either. This appears to be an actual bug. I'll search around a bit.
Edit: I can't come up with a way to make an ingot cast on the casting, nor can I get an ingot cast from the stencil table. We'll have to wait for Diyo to return. For now, if you have NEI you should just give yourself one.

I think Natura is very slowly integrating...it took quite awhile to be able to use natura wood for blank patterns!
Diyo is on vacation right now, so we'll have to wait to bug 'im for more Natura integration.
...the heck are you talking about? Even with that change, you could still make ingot casts on the table. Unless that was unintended.
Oh, wait, I thought you were talking about not being able to do Iron for making parts in the Part Table like everyone else. ^.^" Sorry about that. But I suggest trying and pouring aluminum brass or gold over a Ingot?

This fixed my problem. i put the blank casts i made into the stencil table and made my casts. apparently you can no longer make casts by just putting the item in the casting table.

Several trolls in this thread are learning the hard way that population behavior doesn't change by decree.
Have you ever pushed on a business door and discovered it's a pull door? It's funny once or twice. But have you ever repeatedly pushed on THE SAME DOOR when it's a pull door? Why? Is it cause "you stupid"? No, it's because almost all doors operate in a way that people become accustomed to over their entire lives. A very few doors are placed backwards, and throw you off.
Apologies, but does anyone know if there's a way to use these buckets of molten iron i had by putting them back in the smelter or something? I have a bunch of it cause I was playing around with the smelter trying to figure it out, before realizing i needed molds out of aluminum brass. XD I got the molds now, but I couldn't figure out a way to put the molten iron back into the smelter for usage on the molds.
Also, is there a non cheaty way of getting replacement smelting books? A zombie stole mine.
I currently can't make anything come out of the Smeltery. Whether it be the casting table or the casting basin, the faucets just don't want to work. I've tried breaking and replacing blocks on the Smeltery. I even tried building a NEW smeltery, but nope. Nothing wants to come out of faucets for some reason. Anyone else having similar problems? They were working fine before, but then they stopped working after I switched to TC 1.4dev, so presumably the problem is in the dev build somewhere.

Idk about the first question, but all the TC Books can be crafted. I believe the recipe may be in the first post. It's something really easy. Or you can check NEI for "Materials and You."

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot i had craftguide installed. XD It's a paper next to a blank wood pattern for the first book, then craft it by itself for second, then again for third. Didn't see it in the OP though.

I dunno, I'm a bit on-the-fence about this whole "intuitive/unintuitive" debate. Also, I can't tell if you're criticizing me or not. Again, you could still make ingot casts on the table after mDiyo changed it, but you were limited to just that. I'm thinking that the latest dev (7/10) may have broke that feature, because now I can't do it in previous dev versions either.

I apologize then, Apparently the picture of a Blank Cast was blocking some of the text.
