Incase these haven't been mentioned yet. Why the 16 block limit for the draw bridge?
A bug I noticed is that if you turn a corner with red stone to the drawbridge block it doesn't power.
redstone dust only works like this - if you do it like this L it will not work.
aka [D]raw bridge, [R]edstone, RS [T]orch
[D] [D]
[R] works [R][T] Does not
[T]
Glass does not work as a block disguise. Neither do rails which would be awesome.
I get where you're coming from... I really do. I wish more people would actually READ. But the people who won't read the OP and the last few pages are the same people who won't read your comment either.
I wish I could ban people from the internet and trap them in a room with 100 books. Inside one of the books is a note: "The password to the wifi is ...."
This change is the perfect catalyst for frustration. Everything is so similar to how it was before that many people assume it's EXACTLY like it was before. Thus any difference must be a bug. The same thing has happened with Mystcraft, when XCompWiz added the ink mixer. Everyone thinks they can't craft linking books because of a bug.
The bug exists, but it is a bug in their brain, not the mod.
It is not their fault what so ever. Yeah its listed on the forums here. But not in game yet I do not believe. Just reread the three ingame books which is the main source of info for anyone using the mod and they do not mention the tool forge besides its recipe, they only list you need the smeltery for metals and they do not outline why you need casts.
A note needs to be added that explains how casts and the tool forge work and that stencils are only for wood, stone, ect.
How to use the smeltery and stencil tables is definitely missing from the game -- and this mod adds THREE books in-game that are supposed to provide the player with the necessary information.
The books are a great mechanic, but they need an update.
Please update the in-game books to add a page that gives step-by-step instructions on creating tools.
Don't be mad and give snarky rude instructions.
Do be precise for people who have not played this mod, and for people who have played previous versions.
The thing is, look at the last five pages. Then look at how many have asked this question. Look at how much it has been answered.
What that should tell you is that the information is not reaching the audience. And my conclusion from this is that a forum post is not a good substitute for in-game instructions.
Were we comparing smelteries? Not hooked up yet as I haven't started my power system, but here's what I got:
The gold chest will become an ender chest later, and this will all be hooked up to an AE network and magma crucibles, and will process all compatible ores (except iron, I want the ferrous from iron...) separated so they won't make any allows. Easily expandable as much as I want, each currently does 9 ingots every 4.2 seconds, and is pulsed by immibis' redwire. No piping, just vanilla hoppers, the switch there turns off my timer so I can process tool parts as needed in the center basin (will probably add another one for turning off ore input).
Hey everyone! READ ME! IMPORTANT INFORMATION! IMPORTANT, YOU HEAR ME? READ THIS WHOLE POST!
~~"UPDATED" INFORMATION~~
Frequent Problem: I CAN NO MAKE TOOL PARTZ ON PART BUILDER NO MOREZ!
Answer: The part builder DOES NOT work with metal anymore. The part build only works with wood, stone, slime, paper, cactus, and netherrack. (I may be missing one or two materials here. Point is, NO METAL.)
To make metal parts, you must cast them using the smeltery.
Can't shape casts in the stencil table anymore? NOT A BUG
You must pour aluminum brass or gold onto the casting table with a tool part (made in the part builder) or wood pattern (made in the stencil table) placed on the casting table. (The only exception is currently the ingot cast, that is still made in the stencil table using a blank cast)
Sorry for shouting and slight snarkiness. The thing is, look at the last five pages. Then look at how many have asked this question. Look at how much it has been answered. Then GO READ THE FIRST POST ON THE THREAD! Your question is answered there. At the top. In bold.
I understand people don't like to spend time reading much. But you annoy us when you are the 73rd person to ask a question that is answered on the first post twice, and many times within the last five pages of the thread. Frankly, you look like an idiot when you repeat a much asked question like this. Don't look like an idiot. Spend two minutes of your life reading the first post and last two to five pages of any mod thread for an answer. It doesn't hurt. Honest.
No, the mod does not auto update. The stable version includes the above answer. I am assuming that is your problem, with the information you have given. Apologies for any stress received for reading the above answer.
ohh well well I'm not sure either but either way I got the smelter going... at least this will keep me company for the mean time on my own server... since I find out grinding ore... is kinda... AE manual LOL, ohh well maybe I did update but I forgot when in anycase I do presume using obsidian is still viable or do we to turn them into ingots? for tool use havent checked it yet since once I get a smelter I just pretty much smelt everything that can be smelted except ground ore if and only if needed

What this mod really needs is a wiki. In-game books are fairly good, but you definitely need online wiki with categories, screenshots, detailed instructions and such.
Forestry/Railcraft wikis are good examples.
UPD: while printing this, the above message appeared. This is a sign, dear mDiyo
No, it doesn't. People went along just fine without wikis in very complex games. Just because wikis are the mainstream now, doesn't mean everybody's got to have one.
That said, people so much want a wiki, make one. It's not the mod makers responsibility.
under normal conditions, the current path for crafting casts would be sensible and self explanatory. pouring liquid metal over a tool part of stone, to craft the cast, makes a lot of sense, if you think about it.
the problem is rather, that the old crafting recipes are already widespread due to dires mod spotlight, probably other wikis, and people who are downloading and updating the mod from external sources. a crafting recipe that worked fine in the past suddenly doesnt work for them anymore and theyre confused.
thinking about it, maybe its time to remove the outdated mod spotlights from the op, they might just add to the confusion, since theyre still showing the outdated crafting recipes.
I am wondering if there is a way to recycle old tools? I have too many broken ones in 3 of my 4 chests (crazy as it sounds; around an eighth are paper...) it would be nice if you would make a feature like that. coincidently, this mod reminds me of a game I play in armor games.com, jacksmith. the similarities are unanimous!
Does anyone know of a way to 'disassemble' old tools, or if a feature like that will be added??
I ask this mainly because, in every one of my SSP worlds, I tend to get 20+ tools, all with different parts that I could use, but I never use the actual tools themselves. WOuld be nice to get the Slime Handle from the Pickaxe with a Iron Pick and use it for a Rapier with a Steel Blade. :3

What that should tell you is that the information is not reaching the audience. And my conclusion from this is that a forum post is not a good substitute for in-game instructions.
The problem is, is that this thread is the main source for solving problems. People do not go to the books to troubleshoot the mod. They come here. And when they get here, they do not bother to read the first post, or the last few pages to see if someone else has had and/or solved their problem.
Again, I apologize for the rudeness of my previous post. But people aren't understanding that the OP has valuable information that should always be looked at first, and that the last few pages could possibly have the solution to their problem.
Angle, in-game info is not a good substitute for posting changelogs on a forum thread. I don't care what the problem people are having, how big or minor it is, how new/old it is, how much at fault the mod author is. Read the first post and the last few pages of a thread. Always.
I think Diyo's in-game books do a very good job. The latest Dev version has the information to create all casts in the Might Smelting book. No, I do not know what the earliest version that added it is.
Regardless of what the books say, though, this forum will be the place to come to solve problems with Tinkers Construct. And again, always read the first post and the last few pages to see if your problem has been solved. Always.

Someone has already created a wiki. Last I checked, there was almost no info on it. Diyo does not care to create a wiki, and will leave the maintenance of such to someone else.
Quick question: I'm attempting a survival in this without ever smelting, or using, any tools besides the ones provided in T-Construct (Armor and things that I can't craft with Tinker's are the only exceptions.) and I was wondering: Is there a way to collect lava for the lava tank, without using a bucket? I can't have iron until I smelt it in the smeltery, and without Iron, I can't make a bucket.
I'm going to be visiting family for some amount of time. It may be a couple days or it may be a week. I won't make any promises about what I bring back, but rest assured that it will be progress.
Dodge34: If you're waiting for a year on updating mods, then you're tied too closely at the hip to every single mod in the pack you're using.
Algester: There is no auto-update mechanism in either of my mods.
gsgrego: Pistons have a 12 block range. Drawbridges aren't supposed to go further than that. There may be an upgraded form in the future...
There are more descriptions in the books. I've been updating them the past couple versions, but they're still somewhat incomplete. It seems people aren't reading them anyway.
FryoKnight: I'd rather not add a thing to disassemble tools. It cheapens them to the point of never making a stable tool. Your old tools are a testament to your progress, not to be reused.
Hello! Just wanted to stop by and say that I have been really liking this mod; it is extremely well done and I want to thank you for making it. I do have one suggestion.
Would it be possible to get a configuration option to completely disable Tinker's Construct from altering the hunger system in order to improve compatibility with other mods, such as IguanaMan's Hunger Overhaul?
As it is now both mods clash over control of the hunger system and while I do like TC's method of handling hunger after death, I also like the significant changes that Hunger Overhaul makes. It would be really nice for them to get along!
Once again, thanks for the amazing mod and I look forward to seeing how it progresses!

In fairness, once people are used to how things work, suddenly changing it on them, with no feedback beyond it simply not working, is liable to make them expect a bug, not a fundamental change. Might there be a way to track, in save, the last version a world was saved with, so that if it's prior to a particular landmark change (anything that changes the behaviour they'd expect to see or adds major new features), an announcement can be printed in chat about it? I don't mean checking for the latest version online - just that, once someone HAS updated, they get a nudge towards the books if things have updated.
Also, when I was looking up casting information, a graphical glitch made it harder to read than it needed to be. I can't reproduce it now, but I think I upgraded again to the latest release today, so that may have already been fixed. Still, it does get in the way if it happens.

Seems this would pair well with a Hall of Monuments of sorts. Vanilla itemframes, BiblioCraft, something of that sort...
