I'm putting together my newest Minecraft build and debating about making my first public mod pack. Kinda going through a list of recommended mods, trying to figure out which ones might work with the style I have in mind.
My thoughts as I looked at your original post went like this:
1.7.10, good.
Grow your own minerals? Hmm, not my usual fare, but I'll give it a fair hearing.
Glad he describes things up top. Lot of mods don't give you an overview of what they heck they do.
Download button's up top too. Perfect. I can think of a couple other mods that could learn from this style.
Hmm, overlaps some mods I've already got in my pack, that's good. Hope they all play nicely together.
Several plants already covered by HarvestCraft. I've discarded other mods for being too much of a clash stylistically... guess it'll come down to the screenshots as to whether I even give this a try.
... where's the screenshots?
Not under the spoiler.
Not linked anywhere I can see. No links to a wiki (note: links to wiki are substandard, but at least would be something).
He's got Patreon and Paypal and 183 pages, it's clearly a big enough mod to have gotten a substantial following, there's gotta be screenshots around here somewhere.
Seriously? The only screenshot is in the banner? What the hell?
Yeah. That looks to be it. Okay then. You have a mod that clearly adds a lot of content to the game, but a thread that doesn't in any way show how that content is added or how this mod differs from any other grow-your-own-minerals mod. I see no reason to even bother installing the mod; I'm out of here.
Really ought to let the mod creator know why I didn't give his mod a shot. It's basic but maybe he just doesn't understand how important screenshots are in visual-focused players deciding whether or not to install a mod, let alone try to troubleshoot it as part of a larger mod pack.
So that's why I'm here posting this. I will not be trying your mod until such time as I run across it again and find that you have added suitable screenshots to demonstrate your product. Doesn't have to be a lot of pictures if they're good pictures with good lighting and give an idea of what I'd be experiencing, but they're a basic requirement of a decent mod post. (Note: Videos are no substitute for pictures. Screenshots are how I decide whether watching a video presentation is worth my time. I'm almost certain that players look first for descriptions, pictures, or videos based on whether they're an audio, visual, or kinesthetic learner, and ideally you would provide for all three.) One of the things that players are doing is trying to decide which mods not to use, and good screenshots give a quick yay/nay to see if it's worth sticking around to find out more about it.
Good luck with your mod, though. I hope I come across it later and get a chance to see what it's like.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!
He posts -alot- of screenshots on his Twitter (https://twitter.com/MarkDCUK), since that is where he discusses and shows the mod the most. Author really doesn't go on here unless it's to update the DL.

I am glad that screenshots exist, and they will help me make a decision about this mod instead of just going "eh." But there needs to be a link to the screenshots in the main post or this mod is losing a lot of potential players over that alone.
Author really doesn't go on here unless it's to update the DL.
I am amused that you quoted me with "Meep" and now I am imagining myself as
(Also, I wish you could choose to link vids instead of just embed them.)
I hope the author does add a link to pictures, though. It's really a disservice to a good mod if you drive potential players away because you didn't think screenshots were necessary, especially on a site as crucial as MinecraftForum.
The pictures look decent enough. The fruit actually look pretty good from what I can tell (picture's kinda small, a little hard to judge on my tiny monitor), which is more than a lot of mods can say. I think it'd overlap too much with Ex Nihilo for my pack, but I might toy around with it.
One thing the screenshots don't show me is the mechanic by which growing minerals works. Do you just combine seeds with diamonds or what?

Seeds are grown in a chain. You have Minicio (which is the lowest and most common type you can find in wolrdgen and by creatures dropping it), Accio (very rarely found in the wilderness), Crucio, Imperio, and Zivicio Seeds; each essence is x4 of the previous (so a Minicio crop is only 4 essence, while an Imperio Seed is 4 stacks of Minicio; do note in mind that MC4 uses finite stones made of essence that are used to transmute one essence to the next tier). The way you grow crops is by using the proper essence in combination with what you want to grow; for example, if you want to grow iron, you need 4 iron ingots, 4 imperio essence, and Minicio Seeds, which will give you one Iron Seed. You then grow that seed to get more (20% chance to get a second seed by default), which also waiting to get 9 Iron Essence. Once you have 9 Iron Essence, combine it together in a crafting table to get 8 (I think) Iron Ore.
The second way is by mutation, but personally I haven't played with that much. I would suggest going to his Twitter and looking at it there, where he explains it. I never caught on.
That's the tip of the iceburg; there are tools, armor, blocks, etc. that also make use of essence, so you will be putting *alot* of time into the mod if you are aiming to get everything (and there are at least 50 different kinds of seeds). I will warn you though, this can get overpowered later on when you end up getting extra seeds (which provide good Thaumcraft Aspects in the Deconstruction Table, for the record).
Also, if you use EnderIO Farming Station (and possibly MFR planter) for these crops, be sure to edit the MC4 config and set 'seeds replant themselves' to false. Otherwise, the Farming Station will just eat your seeds away from existence.

how do i get that armor from this mod that is in skyfactory 2 and the madpack cause whenever i install this mod it gives some different armor and no gems
how do i get that armor from this mod that is in skyfactory 2 and the madpack cause whenever i install this mod it gives some different armor and no gems
Thats because those packs are using a special beta form of this mod. If you want that version just copy it from those modpacks.
Hey, I found this mod when it was older with the unique essence names (zivicio, mincio, etc.) and I was wondering if you could either bring them back or update it so that version is available for 1.7.10?
Just some general feedback, and ya, I know you can turn it off in the config (and have). I thought at first I'd be able to deal with the plant injury, but there's no items in mod that make it comfortable later. At some juncture you told someone to "enjoy". I didn't "enjoy" this change after the first 20 minutes. It made working with anything larger than a 6x6 setup, super freaking annoying.
I'd leave it there, but change the default to false. No one I've played with so far, likes it. (3 wopping people, so don't fret too much)
How about a fellow minecraft player's feedback saying... You're missing out It really is a great mod. Well worth the the drag and drop into your mods folder.
I get how some people might be put off by not seeing their favorite setup in the opening topic on the forum (ie: pictures, videos, etc) but that has never stopped me from TRYING a mod. Lack of a wiki page or item lists / multiblock structure instructions in text or picture format has. I hate watching 42 minute long videos of some 16 or 160 year old doing a mod spotlight, just to find out how I needed to right click with such and such item to get such and such moving. Some days, I've seriously spent more time watching others play, than playing.
So to hear you discount a mod over screen shots, when you could just as easily go to images.google.com and type in "magical crops mod" or visit any of the mod packs wiki who has invested huge amounts of time and effort cataloging such things, just seems... such a waste. (http://wiki.resonant-rise.com/view/Magical_Crops#Blocks)
Don't get me wrong, he could use to add some SS's but in the mean time, don't cut yourself short. You should really give it a whirl or a little more research. For me, It was one of them mods that went straight to my "can't play without" list.
(and yes, I just went on a tangent without quoting, and feel a bit silly now)
Sorry i dont feel like sifting through a few hundred posts to find the info.... Where is the documentation to the mod for when NEI fails me? current documentation. 1.7.x
I would like a little more info on the mod before downloading and trying it out, including crafting recipes, how to use/grow all the seeds, any other items/ores that are added, etc. There's not much info on what to do or how to do much with this.
Are Metallurgy crops planned for the beta any time soon? I understand it's a beta and things will get added slowly and that Metallurgy support would add a lot of crops.
I haven't had much luck asking the guys over at MCMMO plugin, but would anyone happen to know what name I should be using to add the crops in for the plugin? I've tried using the full name of the crop as it appears in NEI, as well as using just the item number, but haven't had much luck.
Thanks in advance for any help/solutions. n_n Other than that, the magic crops mod is very useful and works wonders. lol
You need little knowledge for this but it can be accomplished in the meantime using the Custom Items 2 mod
Maybe even in conjunction minetweaker if you're that skilled.
I have failed to find a mod called custom items 2. Do you have a link to a page? And Minetweaker no longer scares me. I let it scare me for a while, but decided to just jump into it and once i got into it, it was a lot easier than it looked.
