This is not a cash grab at all, I barely have time to code much any more so Magical crops 4 is a very slow W.I.P and it needs testing every time I change something. In no way am I saying you have to pay to get the BETA, since why would I give it to some packs in the AT Launcher if I wanted to force everyone to pay me to get it. The Patreon it purely support, In no way am I forcing people to support me, it's a bonus for the support and shouldn't be the reason you are supporting me in the first place. If I didn't offer BETA downloads and was still getting the same amount of support would that also be wrong?
Saying that I will be changing how I do BETAs and Magical crops soon as I'm not getting enough feedback that I need to fix the mod. So soon I will be giving Patreon supports the latest BETA and then the BETA before that I will be releasing to the public.
Except for one fundamental problem: You're charging for access to a mod, which is 100% against the Minecraft EULA. You're lucky you haven't been shut down thus far, i'd suggest opening up the beta to everyone if you want to stay legit.
Where is the 1.7.10 beta releases why is the mod so horribly scattered? I am not going to care if this is another modder beating around the bush.
I don't think there's any way besides patreon right now to get the beta builds you want. They were available through AT Launcher by downloading the MadPack 2 Modpack, but older versions of the modpack don't appear to be available anymore. Perhaps someone out there that has better knowledge of AT Launcher's workings knows of a way?
To the topic of Mark opening up the betas, I think that is a great thing. I'm not to keen on the explanation of barely any time to code though when the 4.0 beta is up to build 13 and the Magical Crops 3 beta had at least 3 other releases. Right now I have 7 beta releases sitting on my hard drive as backups that were only made available through AT Launcher and still are not on the main thread here or Curse. That's only some of the releases that were out there too. That's quite a few for not much time to code...
Honestly though, I don't want to debate, I just want to show how poorly this looks from the point of view of a poor non-patreon paying peasant.
I don't think you understand how patreon works... (I don't use patreon but I do know what it's about. I was considering getting one awhile back because I'm a poor artist)
I don't understand why you guys are complaining. there's a working version up and running for at least 1.7.10?

also an open beta sounds cool. I can't wait~
You don't understand how the Minecraft EULA works. He's charging for access to the beta via Patreon. This is 100% illegal, plain and simple.
As to the currently available one for 1.7.10: it's rather broken at the moment as it requires several Minetweaker recipe fixes to get some of the crops working.
Yeah, the current build is broken, but there were several builds that fixed those issues released to madpack quite a while back that are probably floating around somewhere. And I have no issue with Patreon at all. I think its a great idea. I just get my panties in a bunch when it seems to be used unfairly. I don't know the EULA well enough to claim that anything illegal is going on or not, and I actually do believe Mark when he says he isn't trying to run a scam of any sort. It just really does look bad from a long running fan of the mod's perspective and I don't think he even took that into account. A misunderstanding if you will. Opening the beta is a great gesture on Mark's part.

Could you quote that specific statement? There are hundreds, even thousands, that do the same thing, including other Minecraft modders. In return for support, they get early access. Been that way for a long time. If it's illegal, why have so many others been able to do it/still do it, and why hasn't anything been done about Mark this entire time he's been on Patreon?

just from the name "Saturation" i believe it will just keep your food up, idk if you have to have food in your inventory to and it uses up that or what but thats it that i understand from the name.
Edit: Oh and i was playing with it on Skyfactory 2 and i made the Nature's kiss seed to see what it was but after i planted and grew it, it crashed my game and corrupted my world. I dont know if thats a Magical Crops problem or skyfactory but ill post it in both places

I'll put some wood on the fire. In all the respect of the creative freedom.
Mod authors do not get to dictate their own terms of use. Every single 'license' that makes a demand of players is against the EULA. So, if a mod author requires that you ask them for 'permission', they are literally making stuff up to please themselves.
Does the EULA still apply for access to user-created mods?
Yes. It doesn’t make a difference who made the mods, or how they were implemented onto your server. All mods require Minecraft to run. You are not allowed to charge for Minecraft features which affect gameplay.
Due to the release of Magical Crops 4.0.0, I don't think this is an too big of an issue anymore. But what I think is important is that quite commonly, it's good to know that a certain type of business models tends to irritate a bit, all cards considered and may impact positive donations and feedback. Resulting in a less energetic fanbase I believe. But we must try to be gentle about it.
Edit: Removed unnecessary stuff and a change of heart. Sorry
I hope MagicalCrops will continue to entertain thousands of Minecrafters and that Mark will get the recognition he deserves for his time, skills and creativity.
Edit: Removed not relevant stuff in regard to the current 4.0.0 open release of Magical crops.
You know what would be really great is if you added the ability to implement crops through json files similar to fluxed crystals. I'm not sure how difficult that would be probably not too difficult if you haven't used to many magic numbers. Basically variable substitutions the hardest thing about it would probably be the textures. I just like the feel of this mod a lot more than fluxed crystals.
In regard to what I have typed before about the business model with Magical Crops. I may not have considered the options and been really disrespectful and so I apologize to Mark. I will handle it more professionally in the future if I need to say something that could escalate to a flame war. It would be terrifying. I have great respect for developers and the time they put into stuff that they share, and if I can be more constructive and smart, I will try.
And the release of Magical Crops 4.0.0 looks great. Hats of to you Mark for the change of heart. I have no idea how long you have planed this.
Actually, I have a question in regard to the update, will this mod gain bugfixes and options added to the open release if you continue to get donations for developing the mod?
That includes from me, waiting for a long time for an update discourages me a bit.
I really hate posting anything negative for a mod author to see on here, but dude. DUDE.
Half my current base is built out of decorative blocks from Magical crops. That was a horrific thing to put on the chopping block for the new version. I just don't understand why you're going down this route. You don't need to compete with Thaumcraft or Botania.....we love this mod because of what it is at its core. There wasn't anything wrong with the system you had in place. Tweaking it is awesome - and we love that.....but a complete overhaul? With hundreds of blocks thrown out? I hate to use the term "feature creep", but maybe that's starting to happen?
I'm sorry dude.....I appreciate everything you've done with the mod. It's just super frustrating. So many of us just don't have time to restart our worlds every time a new mod version comes out.

The thing is that it's still in beat, that means many broken things and many things that are still to be re-added, you should always go careful installing a BETA update as it can and will break things. All deco blocks will be added back, I'm just getting the core of the mod done before I add them.

I've been meaning to release the beta for a while now, and it will now stay in open beta, bugfixes and updates will come straight to open beta, the only betas my patreons will get are experimental versions when and if I do them.

I freaking LOVE the new update!!! Awesome new textures for the armor and essences, plus I like the idea of magical farmland. I hope to see bacon's crop re-added and some Magical Crops storage options in the future Keep it up Mark719, you're one of the greats.
tried that and it didnt work :/

Until someone ports this legendary mod I am leaving the minecraft scene. http://www.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/greg.ewing/minecraft/mods/ArchitectureCraft/#mozTocId598776 I have watched too many legendary mods die and carpenters blocks sudden fallout out of mainstream made me cry. I realize the source is messy but some of the best mods from 1.6.4 and 1.7.10 were.
