you mind showing off that setup that's powering an mfsu off of generators? if it's not what i expect i'd be pretty interested in how you did that, currently generators are all but worthless for power to me, even burning coal coke like after dinner mints (handful is gone in a minute or two flat almost) never really seems to keep pace with an mfsu.

24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.
(an ode to minecraft modding)
i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.

I'm still behind this weekend, but I've been documenting stuff on imgur as I find stuff I'm happy with (so I can rebuild it quickly next update if nothing else). Bear in mind this is running about a dozen MFR farms and breeding and processing a few dozen animals, the TE & IC2 machines to support it, but not ore processing or the assembly table to make logistics parts.
The TE sawmill gives you 6 planks and 1/8 of a charcoal for every log you run through it. I've got 9 generators (burning planks, charcoal and saplings) and a LV solar array at the moment. Burning IC2 scaffolding would actually power a lot more generators (I did the math last week but I didnt save the figures so I forget exactly how much, but I think it was like double)
Coal coke isn't worth the trouble. It takes too long and too much trouble to produce, it also doesn't provide much more power than the way I am doing it when all is said and done. Besides, you have to have coal, the wood farms are self sustaining.
My main goal with this is a system that isn't going to run itself into the ground (or a smoking hole) if I am not there to babysit it constantly.
Railcraft boilers converting steam to MJ and/or EU I'm sure would be a lot more efficient in the long run, but the boilers take forever to heat up and reach efficiency and then if something goes wrong or your fuel supply gets interupted you are back to square 1.
it should be mentioned that it only works when the ground is hoed. it seems like it would do that itself.
It does hoe the ground itself.
That's wierd. Unless something changed recently.
My farms are all planted already.
Actually, it would be pretty cool if it didn't, because then you could mix dirt growing crops with trees in the same planter.
Flat Bedrock update! Now works correctly in the Nether.
Wait, it wasn't working properly before?
Good thing I haven't genned the nether yet. NetherOres and FlatBedrock update! GO!!!

it is not hoeing at all. im on the most recent version.

I just slapped down a new farm to verify, it is working properly (hoeing and planting).
You've got something else going on. Forge up to date? Maybe some other mod interaction.
And for the triple play, MFR update to fix Pam's flowers and grass fertilization. If anybody even knew you could do the latter.
I thought you said you wouldn't release three versions of MFR within 14 hours, or has it been 14 hours
Anyway now I have to reupdate my server again. Does the harvester harvest flowers/tall grass?

20 now, I think
And yeah, it does, it understands tall grass, flowers, and most of the crazy crap Pam inserts into tallgrass spawns.
hmmm it seems to only truely not work when using cotton from a private mod. the planter is not recognizing the plant as a crop. it is pinksheep's mod if you could ask him about it. he idles the UE channels.
I don't have the time to support every mod in existence, and I'm definitely not going to support a 'private' mod. You're more than welcome to either add the support yourself or find somebody to do it for you, though; the MFR API will more than cover this need.
So yeah, wow, a lot more jwood letting them grow big.
Switched a few more generators over to it. So the setup works good, I could probably power a few more.
I ran a stack and a half of netherrack through the crucible (testing crafting obsidian on demand), which is about as expensive an operation as you can do, 30 MJ/t (other than running a massfab) and the system handled it (granted I had a good 3 million in the MFSU).
I have to fit some more fabrication in, and decide on an ancillary power system for peak periods (I raised the roof another 20 meters so running power from windturbines will suck, but I may do it anyway. Any Redpower experts out there? Does it make more sense to run blutricity down where I need it and hook up the BC engines there or keep them attached to the kinetics and run conduit? Do I even bother with batboxes or not?
I suppose I could do the obligatory nuclear power plant but I'm so bored with IC2 nuclear.
There's always good old combustion engines I guess.
Man, just when I think I am done talking about sewage, my pipes are derping up everytime I reload the game.
Liquidducts to a tall stack of buildcraft tanks to another liquidduct to the composter. All works fine, but when I log back in I have to smash the bottom tank and some ducts and replace them. The milk tank is fine. The mob essence tank is fine. Just the sh!t tank.

Steam power is lossless, so that's always the best bet for long distances. RP2 wind generators are about equal to the IC2 versions, and less of a pain to set up but more to use because RP2 isn't compatible with anything (as we just discussed...). Solars are good but boring. Comedy option of IC2 water mills, I suppose.
Also don't ever run IC2 nuclear reactors in steam mode, they give something like 15% the equivalent EU output.

Sweet! Sweet on the netherores update too.
It sure should. You have dirt above it right?
