Sneaking to show aspects only works in your inventory.
To show aspects in crucibles and jars (and such devices), you need special goggles.
To show aspects in blocks in the world, you need a special.. pick, I think.
To show aspects in entities in the world... I don't think entities actually have aspects.
Oh, so you DO need the Goggles of Revealing. I totally forgot about that. Thanks for the help.
If there was some kind of vis extractor that allowed you to place a jar full of aspect in it to slowly convert say 8 aspect into 1 vis (one full jar would give 8 vis) that would really help give a use to all the extra aspects im collecting with out destroying the balance of vis.
Also, is there any plans on changing the recipe for the advanced stone and clay golem? I ask because you need a smart golem to create them but the thauminomicon says that you dont want to use an animation core because it would give it too much power. But not only are you using a core your using an advanced core.
I get that they are basically a tier 2 smart golem and all, so using a tier 1 smart golem to make them makes sense. Its just... the book says...

"I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong."
heh read what they say when you access their GUI......and keep your wand handy
The non upgraded core thing is for gameplay balance reasons otherwise a fast or strong or perceptive Adv Golem completely trumps any other Golem you would make so you wouldn't make any other Golems most likely.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, (it's probably three pages back and people will yell at me for not reading up.) but what if you had to for example kill an angry zombie before you could make the goggles of revealing, or make an amber block before you can discover the magic mirror. As of now, I think that it is far too easy to cheat in thaumcraft. As of now, you can just google "thaumcraft research solutions" and get the entire research data base spelled out in layman terms for you. Adding tasks that the player must complete before doing research might make this a bit more difficult to do, and add more of a challenge to thaumcraft. The other thing I would like to see is more consequences for tainting your environment with a high level of flux. What I think would be cool is to see a mythical creature that would normally be percieved as good, try to kill the player for destroying it's habitat, because hey, somebody has to stand up for nature.

As for the first half this falls soem what inline with the event based research that was being talked about a page or two back. And while I personally am not overly keen on the specific examples you've given I do think the idea itself is solid and would give TC a much more intricate and in depth research system. Which I get the feeling is what Azanor is working up to in some kind of way.
As for the second part. I do like this example. I'm not sure about Azanor's feelings on very in-depth mob creation but some kind of, more severe consequences for dumping 'bad' essence into the environment would be interesting, but I would have to say that I would like to see those 'bad' essences balanced with perhaps some kind of 'good' essences having an effect. Perhaps dumping the growth essence into the environment causes tall grass grow and plants and perhaps even animals to grow faster. I think this would pull the 'flux' aspect out of a clearly negative connotation and give it the more netral connotation it deserves. Though to balance people spamming 'good' essences into the environment to gain the bonuses perhaps have it that the basic scale of how much flux is in the environment stays and go with the old adage of 'you can have too much of a good thing.' Or is that just a play on the actual saying? Either way, my point is that perhaps getting the flux up too high will cause some kind of event of 'negative' consequences because you would now be disturbing the natural order of things far too much and casting the world out of balance.
Of course, with all that said, I do agree with you that the current system is a bit easy to get through considering the usage of the wiki and other such outlets. However the only real way to make the research system 'unexploitable' would be to make it similar to the system of nearly pure randomization that Ars Magica uses*. Which I would not advocate for TC as the research is linked quite closely with the essences within the recipes and the materials used so taking that away could do more harm than good.
*It's nearly, if not completely impossible to do this as even with a random system there are only so many possibilities, but you see my point I hope.

Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
I have to say that the golemancy in this mod is my favorite thing I've ever used in minecraft. One thing though is that theres really only 2 job performing golems, the fighter and the farmer, and the others are just item management. Are there any future plans to expand the golem's skillsets so I can have them be a larger part of my operation? I would be sooo grateful if that were the case.
you didnt really cause much offense,i just like the namequicksilver
i wonder if azanor is going to add some dark magic soon(similar to the forbidden knowledge)
i miss the dark infuser and the infuser, i used to kame 2 separate rooms in my lab, they were contrasting each other(one was dark and one was normal).

I wouldn't be surprised. We are already getting the decanter golem in the next update I believe. Or is that an upgrade to the current tallow golems? Either way. I don't think Azanor is really 'done' with the golems yet. BUt sometimes these features have to come about a bit organically as the mod progresses. Others simply aren't all ready when the time comes for a mod to update. And still others have to come from the kind of 'eureka' moments of life when things simply click and inspiration for something springs to the fore.
Of course not being Azanor I can't directly answer your question of what he has in the works. But I do hope I've shed a little light onto how these things some times work. At least from my observations.

The chestplate of potentia is a chestplate with some interesting powers, the armor acts like the thorns enchant.
when you get hit, the armor will send out a few bolts of lightning(similar to wisps) and damage the attacker in the process.(its more powerful than thorns, but cosumes vis)
The armor is made out of thaumium ingots, quicksilver and an air shard.
if you guys have noticed, i have suggested quicksilver related stuff. thats because i ant quicksilver to have more uses.
Okay, here is a question to those who comb this thread extensively: How satisfied are people/Azanor with the structure of the second tier of research? Has somebody given some statement on the issue?
Primarily the nature of the Theory of Everything and how researching around it is pretty difficult. I keep bumping into it trying to research other things like warded stone/doors. Even when researching the essentia for basic things I bump into the Theory of Everything. Is there eventually gonna be a thing like in tier 1, where various separate discoveries need to be made before unlocking the next tier, or is there a bug where some theory will always pop up when trying to research other theories with the same essentia?

There should be a set of slots tn the research table interface you could put research notes in if you wanted to save them for later. When the notes were in these slots, the research table would treat them as 'on hold', thus skipping them and start on the next possible research.

It's better to ask a stupid question than not knowing the answer.
EnnekPL: I'd say the issue is thaumcraft, but you already kow that. What is the log from, what were you doing to get it? That might help us figure the issue out.
Duke 2.0: On the overall I am satisfyed by the teir 2 research. I also agree with you in that a buffer is needed for the Theory of Everything; reason being is that you can beeline for it after reaching the second teir and not enjoy the research of the rest of teh second teir.
Bernardos: That is something I'm sure a lot of thaumaturges would like, me included.
Hey, been out of the loop a bit - again - so I must ask: Anything interesting popped up on Forgecraft of late? Decanting Golems, which are upgraded Tallow Golems which hold whole Warded Jars, and I think they can move Liquids in the Forge Liquid API. One second, checking Dire and Mead.
Also: Is there a definate answer on if Void Chests will return? Sorry to sound like a broken record but I deeply loved those things. Probably not. Thats why I need to make a elderitch addon. The Void Interface will not only be for Void Chests anymore..
Does anyone know of a way to automate (or semi-automate) filling glass bottles with water?
Trick, mod, anything?
(bump)
I know Azanor is taking a bit of a break but I thought I would throw this out there anyway in hopes that it doesn't get lost in the 50 gazzillion golem 'suggestions'.
I just made an automatic brewing lab (MC potions) using golems.
Thanks again to Virtual Trekkie who helped me get the glolems to put the right things in the right spots in the brewing stand.
The ONLY thing that I can't automate is filling water bottles (ugh...tedious, torture, boring...gotta clean out my inventory, again).
It would be VERY cool if a Talow Golem (as an alternate task when assigned to a chest instead of a crucible or alembic) could fill water bottles and put then in a chest.
If the filling of water bottles could be automated (did I mention I hate filling water bottles?) all I would have to do is keep the supply chest full of empty bottles (which conveniently stack...unlike water bottles) and other ingredients and come back later and retrieve my completed potions.
Also, I was kind of thinking that this would not be too difficult to code since the Tallow Golem already fetches water and other Golems retrieve/store items....the components are there just needs some tweaking (ok, more like a few hours of coding - but definitely less work than "hey I have a great idea for a golem...it can be like a mini-transformer that can fly around and blow things up).
Food for thought (plus a pay-pal donation).
If you think that this is a crass and unashamed attempt to bribe Azanor into making this happen you would be correct.
Question; I've found a node surrounded by a circle of Obsidian Totems, with a chest underneath it that contains various dungeon loot items. When I look into the node, I see this swirling galaxy thing. Anyone know what kind of node that is?

I can't really tell from the description, but location-wise I can firmly state that's a dark node.
...Though it should be spawning pig-men like crazy. I never really understood why the weird altar things did that, but every one I've seen has done that, so... yeah.
On a completely separate balance issue, the whole knowledge fragments set-up is a bit simple currently. I mean, I was expecting epic quests and adventure when I went out to search for them, but instead I found metric tons when I loaded up a flat, perma-night Mystcraft age to hunt mobs in. Literally, you just stumble upon those totem-structures, and about half the time they'll have one or more knowledge fragments in the chest. Just was a bit disappointing, because I was mob-hunting for XP to enchant gear FOR my epic hunt for lost knowledge, and then I just find it laying about on the surface.
