Version 1.3 for Minecraft 1.5.1 is up, see change log below
This wall of text needs to go methinks
Have you ever wanted to transplant an animal farm from one location to another? Killed all the pigs near your home and can't be bothered luring pigs all the way back? Well then this mod is for you!
The Animal Packer mod adds three new machines that enable easy transport of Cows, Pigs, Sheep and Chickens and now damn Mooshrooms as well (also the bebbies).
Cocanuta made a video for v1.1 =D
First the Animal Packer, when powered with a redstone signal, will lure nearby animals and then put them into it's inventory, then if you supply the machine with paper, 4 pieces of paper per animal, the machine will begin to wrap up those adorable animals into neat little packages, packages that you can put into your pockitz and then transport as you see fit.
The Animal Packer does have a little intelligence to it, it can only hold 5 of an animal type at one time, since, well, animals are big, when the packer is full it will stop attracting other animals, also, for example, if the packer has a pig in it it wont attract a cow, sheep or chicken, just to prevent ridiculous swamping of animals. From my testing the range that the packer can attract animals is a bit less than holding a specific lure. Then when you're at your destination, you can utilise the Animal Unpacker!
This wonderful machine, when supplied with a redstone signal will begin to unpack those packaged animals back into their natural state! What convenience!Since this is my first post and my first mod I thought I should say hi, hello =D
I'm an Android developer and always wanted to make a mod for Minecraft but never had an idea that I thought would be useful. I got the idea for this mod while watching a recent episode of Yogscast Tekkit when Simon went back to Pig Island and it was overrun with pigs and he wanted to transport them, instead he slaughtered a whole lot of them, so I'm hoping someone can find this mod useful!
This mod adds 3 blocks and 21 items, though 10 of those items you can't touch... I hope.
If you break an Animal Packer while it still has animals inside they will pop out, if you find they pop out a tad too far, tell me and I'll see about tweaking the variables, I haven't really played with it much yet.
So to get started you'll need to make 3 'Packing Machines', each one of these requires 1 redstone, 2 paper, 2 iron and 3 wood planks. Then you'll be able to make the Packer and Unpacker, for the Packer you'll need, 1 wheat, 1 seeds, 1 carrot, 2 'Packing Machines', 1 redstone and 3 iron ingots, the wheat, seeds and carrot are in there as the lure for the cows, pigs, sheep and chickens, good idea!
Finally the Unpacker is simply a 'Packing Machine', 2 iron ingots and 3 wood planks.
Pretty screenshots of the recipes are found below! Or there used to be... will update soon
Until I can make new images, here are the recipes in text format

Advanced Animal Packer
Installation']
First you'll need to have the Forge API installed, you can find the official Forge install instructions here http://www.minecraft...ation/Universal
I built the mod using Forge 7.7.1.662, so I assume that would have the best compatibility.
Once Forge is installed simply drop this mod's zip file into your .minecraft/mods directory.
For server side do the same, drop this mod's zip file into your server's /mods directory.
It's a universal package, huzzah!
My mod shouldn't have conflicting ID's with other mods, but in case you need to change the block/item ID's you can find the config file in the .minecraft/config directory
V1.3
Updated to support Minecraft 1.5.1
Baby animals can now be packaged
Mooshrooms and baby mooshrooms can also be packaged
Added hopper support, top and sides can add paper, bottom can take out packages
Fixed Buildcraft pipe support - wooden pipes will only pull out packaged animals from any side of the packers, pipes can input paper and packages into packers and unpackers respectively
Issues and Quirks:
Sometimes the inventory of the packers stops working and you can't get items off of your cursor, can still press escape to exit the gui and drop the items on the ground, not sure of the cause yet.
When I piped into the top of the unpacker I found that the unpacked animals would get suck inside the machine when they popped out and subsequently suffocated, sadness all around =( so just pipe into the side instead.
V1.2a
Fixed missing gui texture issue
V1.2
Updated to support Minecraft 1.4.4
Added SMP support - running Eclipse, two instances of MC and an MC server on an oldish laptop isn't fun, but SMP appears to be working =D
Altered how much paper is needed to pack the different animals - chickens need 3 paper, pigs 4, sheep 5 and cows 6
Added Advanced Animal Packer - 4 slots to hold 5 of each animal, if there is more than one animal in the slots paper usage is basically adding the individual times then minus 1 for each animal, so if you have a chicken and pig in there, it'd take 3 + 4 - 2 = 5 paper to pack them both, lures animals twice as distant as regular version, about 16 blocks
Made sure the Animal Packers don't pack baby animals, because I'm sure that's animal cruelty or child abuse or I just don't want to do the extra code to make sure the baby pops back out as a baby right now
Future Plans']
I have three new machines in the works:
A simple one that converts packages between the adult and baby form through the use of some techno voodoo
A machine that's able to extract the maximum goodness from an animal, so instead of that annoying streak of 0 leather drops you can process a cow package and be guaranteed 2 leather and 2 raw beef, perhaps linked to the amount of power being received
A highly advanced machine that is able to take the biomass of various animals and form them into any animal of choice
Thanks:Big super thanks to FreeZzeRrR for his awesome Forge mod tutorials, I couldn't have learnt how to get anything done without those tutorials. If anyone else is interested in learning how to start modding with Forge, go see his tutorials!
Hello I read your post about your mod and its looks interesting for me, because sometimes is hard to finde animals or there are far from your house and hard to bring it to your place. I will try your mod but it will be better to know if its working on a server. Nice job
Thanks, I've updated the OP a bit, hopefully it's clear enough, I'm not sure if most people that use mods would have MC Forge installed or not, I assume they would have Forge installed since the most popular mods do use it.
When I get some more time I'll see if I can make sure it works with SMP, it should work when you open an SSP game to LAN though
I fixed the link, I didn't know using forums is more annoying than programming, lol
Does anyone know how to make the link open in a new tab using the forum code? I couldn't get any HTML to work
Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to make this mod compatible with SMP, and perhaps add the Advanced Animal Packer that has 4 storage slots so you don't have to worry about it grabbing the wrong animal
I was thinking last night that I could easily make a mob packer, but... I'm not sure what would be the point
Unless perhaps there's some recipes that use packaged mobs in some way, then that's thinking way too far ahead for the moment
Packaged Creepers being used in some kind of grenade recipe? lol
I've got some other ideas I'm playing around with, would be nice if all of them are doable and don't break anything =D We'll see how it goes!
Also, tis the weekend and I said hopefully I will get SMP and the Advanced Animal Packer in, and... I did! Yay!
Making sure that a 4 slot furnace type item works properly was really annoying, but definitely worth it!
I noticed while testing today that the packers would eat up baby animals and then spit them out as adults, so I decided to not let the machines eat up the babies for now, but that lead me to another idea...
A machine that will pull off a Babality! As in sucking up adult animals and turning them into babies, just because babies are so damn cute. Nothing really to be gained by that, but I'm sure someone could make a farm of 400 babies or something.
I was thinking about the mob lure machine, and I'm not sure it's a good idea anymore, because mobs don't really care about finding food or whatever, so lore-wise it doesn't fit.
So perhaps a trap system instead? Place special blocks on the ground and when the mobs walk over them they're caught and then we can have our wicked way with them! Bwah ha haaaa
Withers and dragons... I suppose it may be able to, but overriding the AI for the dragon could be quite difficult, but with that sort of power you could possibly bring a dragon to the normal world and that's... scary, lol
The only sane solution I can see for that is using the packaged dragon in some sort of item recipe, like a dragon bone pickaxe or some such, or some some way to make a happy dragon that doesn't try to kill everyone
I could make one that lets you transport golems perhaps? Should be quite simple to implement

Found the problem, it was checking for the wrong ID's when it was unpacking, works now

I also like the swamping limit so people can't suck up the entire biome.
Works like a charm and easy to use, clever idea too

No problem. Thank you for fixing it.:)

I'll definitely see about making them properly transportable too, I'll see if I can get it done this weekend, along with golems
