Hey, you seem like you know how this works I'm just trying to get my name highlighted when it's mentioned by someone other than me. Didn't get it to work, though. If you have time, could you please lead me through this and help me with the expression that I have to put in?
Well that was embarrassing.
The reason it was highlighting text after val was because, for some strange reason, I had an extra copy of the filter you gave me running, so I technically had two filters essentially doing the same thing. Not sure why that would highlight text after val, but derp. Thanks for your time, though!
Your name mentioned by other people should be fair enough to do. If I am to assume your username is "colinowww" then the following should work.
c(olinow+(?!\>)|olino(?!\>)|olin(?!\>))
So, it has to start with C, and then after that C there can be either "olinoww", "olino" or "olin" as long as none of them are followed by a closing angle bracket. The only single issue is that it also picks up you saying it, and any automated messages containing your namewill also be picked up.
Should work, however if it doesn't tell me.
It works good so far, thank you!
Also, if you don't mind I have another question, two actually.
One:
There is this plugin which lets the server staff talk in a separate chat, the [Mod-Broadcast], like this:
I was thinking about an extra tab, with just the Mod-Broadcast, and now that I'm typing this I thought about having a socialspy tab aswel. Could you help me with it? I have the Mod-Broadcast set as default channel but it does not detect the chat. I tried both with and without the brackets.
Two:
The same thing as with when "Colin","Colino" or "Colinowww" is said, I would really appreciate if you'd show me how to make the same thing with "mod", "moderator, "Admin", "help", etc.

Minecraft doesn't react anymore if i use "Send matches to tab" with "All tabs" and it finds a match...
I'm using Forge 819 ... uninstalled all other mods and still same behaviour...
Tested on cube-nation.de and on a private bukkit-server with only World-Edit installed...
It all works perfectly fine, thank you so much dude.
One more thing but you probably won't be able to help, so this is aimed at mainly The Developer of this mod: Sometimes when I type the 'o' the menu pops up (the one where you can set all your filters, etc), and I basicly cannot say any word with the 'o' in it. Really annoying, and I don't know how to fix it. Sometimes it just goes away and comes back later.
Additional information:
Macbook pro 15" mid 2010
runs Mac OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion
I use this mod in combination with all the other mods that come with the Voxel Mod Pack.
[...]
Does it work normally if you send it to it's own named tab? And also, what expression are you using? If I can try recreate it here then I'll have a better understanding on whether it's a bug or not.
Also, I don't think any other mods would have caused the behaviour you described.
[...]
First I tried simple plain "romibi" as Expression.. ..at that point as soon as I wrote something Minecraft didn't react anymore (note: romibi is my nick)...
At that point I assumed that i did something wrong with the Expression so experimented with it...
E.g. to "romibi(?!(:|2))|romibi2(?!: )" ...
Only two behaviours i got were: no hilighting or non reacting Minecraft...
At the same time my Friends-Filter ("(Swissforce1|shaninchen)") worked fine (which doesn't send to all tab but to the "Friends"-Tab) so i experimented with the other settings and as soon as I deactivated "All Tabs" it worked...

Especially on Mac Minecraft has at the moment a bug where the cmd and/or alt and/or ctrl (and i think sometimes even shift) keys get "sticky" ... noticable for example when using some Inventory shortcuts ... I don't know if it's a Minecraft, a LWJGL or a Java-Bug but if something like this happens I just press all (cmd, alt, ctrl & shift) each after the other once and the problem is gone... ...at least for a while...

Hello, it's me again. Sorry to bother you once again, but the server owner installed a plugin that messed up the tabs so that they don't work as they should. I tried to manage to see if I could get my tabs to work, but I keep failing at it and everything I tried to get working never seems to work.
So, I'm back again to ask for more assistance. The new chat system for the server I play on works like this now:
Admin chat:
[[tag] Playername] text
Normal chat:
<[tag] Playername]> text
PM:
[me -> [tag] playername] text
[[tag] playername -> me] text
I tried to edit some of the expressions you gave me as well as some that were already posted here and none seem to work. I'm slowly understanding them, but I am still messing up.
So far, the normal and admin chat expressions work. But, I seem to be having problems with the PM expression... It works, but I keep getting two tabs whenever I use it. Not sure if it was intentional, but it works. The only problems I have with it is that the PMs show up in the Admin chat, and when I send a message through one of the PM tabs, two more tabs are created. Are there any options I should tick or any tab name chances I should do?
If there isn't a work around, I can live without the PMs.

At the moment it's without the surrounding brackets ... but I tried both ...
As I said: at the moment all works fine if I don't select "All Tabs" under the "Send matches to tab" setting... But as soon as i select that and there is a match everything (Mobs, Chat, Sound, etc) freezes and with the next click into the Minecraft-Window a message like "Java™ Platform SE binary doesn't respond anymore" shows up...
About the whitespace: no ingame it's not there...
I forgot about the code-tabs here in the forum and without them and without the whitespace it would look like this:
romibi(?!(:|2))|romibi2(?!
My current Filter: (Name: "Getting Mentioned")
"Hilight matches" checked, Color "Gold", Format "Bold",
"Audio notification" checked, Sound "Pling"
Expression:
romibi(?!(:|2))|romibi2(?!:)
(rest empty/unchekced)
When I check "Send matches to tab" and enter a Tab Name, everything still works...
But as soon as I check "All tabs" the problem occurs... (With and without a name in the Tab-Name...)
I don't think it has anything to do with the Expression. I think it's a bug or just incompatible with the Forge-Version or the Servers i'm using...
When enableing the forced Unicode font, you get the font that is showned in the OP which I find pretty ugly. Can I change this font? I'd like to use something in the style of this: http://www.wrongplace.be/files/minecraft_stuff/2012-09-06_19.15.40.png
That screenshot is from an unofficial dev of ImprovedChat.

Add it to a resource pack, the feature would be redundant.
Chat history to retain lines.. in the gui is still restricted to 999.. thats no good.. I wanted at least 10000
This will definitely never happen. 1k chat lines is the absolute max I'm comfortable allowing. In TabbyChat, this applies to each tab/channel individually, where the number of tabs/channels is limited to 20. Meaning currently, worst-case TabbyChat will require sufficient RAM to retain 20,000 chatline objects (each one holding the string itself, and several other properties such as timestamp and gametick received at). Everytime you switch or combine tabs, the chatline buffer is cleared and repopulated with the data from the selected tab, possibly involving a detailed scan to determine how to combine multiple tabs in the correct order.
Honestly, I'm surprised I haven't heard any performance complaints before now, but I guarantee 10k+ chatlines per channel with 20 channels would be ugly. If you need to go this far back, turn on logging and consult your log file.
the chat width seems to be a little off by default ie it seems to force the last word onto the line below when without this mod the text line would completely fit on one line. Adjusting the width of the tabbychat has no effect on word wrapping, I wouldn't mind if the word wrapping was exactly same as the default (or a way to reset it to exact default width)
TabbyChat determines word wrapping exactly the same as vanilla - in fact, it uses the same functions built-in to the vanilla client to perform the actual word wrapping. I would imagine that the effect your seeing is due to extra space reserved on the right-hand side of the chatbox for the scroll bar.
I prefere to use
however it would be really nice if I could do something Alt click on a tab that seems to filter out channels etc, and have it just not show that channel in the
anymore and only in its tab. Would be much easier to use and more intuitive, than having to try make custom filters to do the same thing ie making a tab that acts like
but filters out what I don't want showing in.
I think I follow what you're saying here. It certainly sounds like a convenient feature, and you describe it in a very smooth and intuitive fashion. Unfortunately, what's going on in the background with TabbyChat makes this a lot more difficult than you'd expect.
I do like the suggestion though. I'll put it on the list.
Also when I press t, and then press enter.. i want it to escape like default behavior, not have to force me to press esc to exit the chat.. I'd rather press t again to chat again if I need to.. then the other way around.
I'm not sure I follow here - when you press t and then enter, it DOES escape like the default behavior - as long as the chatbox isn't pinned open. When it's NOT pinned, both 'enter' and 'esc' exit the chat interface.
Check the 'pin' button in the upper-right area (normally) of the chatbox, just to the left of the resize-handle. Make sure it's black (unpinned) and not yellow (pinned).
unicode font size, style settings possible?.. its too tiny otherwise
I can just about guarantee that I'm not going to go messing around with the unicode font. It scales badly as it is, and alternate font images really belong in a resource pack. As a player myself, I'd really prefer to use True-type font rendering rather than the unicode. I used a mod called "BetterFonts" for this in the past, and loved it, but I don't believe it's actively maintained. If anything, I may consider attempting a true-type font rendering engine of some sort for TabbyChat.
